Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Apparently Himmelberg has family in Brisbane.

Richmond and Sydney are reportedly leading the race and both will have a lot more cap space, with likely retirements of their veteran KPF. Richmond have Taranto who is a very good mate of Himmelberg. The article after saying the two leading clubs (said that Brisbane were also interested and couldn’t be ruled out and that there are a number of other clubs who have enquired).

The salary cap will become an issue for Brisbane at some point. They certainly did something dodgy with Daniher. Can’t remember whether they heavily front loaded the salary so that Essendon ended up with a top 10 pick. Basically Essendon said we will match unless band 1 compo is achieved and then the clubs basically doctored the salary to meet the band 1 criteria. Was something off about that deal from the beginning. They have a large number of good players out of contract end of this season.

Let's remember the AFL kept COLA under wraps for ages. I'd be shocked if Brisbane didn't have something similar.

They aren't a sh** club like Gold Coast which helps but even Gold Coast seem to be keeping most of the players they want to keep these days.

Large number of good players out of contract? All they have is Zorko and Rich, who they don't really have to worry about (either retire or reduce salary).

Brisbane's list doesn't seem that dodgy to me in terms of salary cap. The Daniher deal was dodgy in rorting the FA system, not rorting the cap. Guys like Andrews, Bailey, McCluggage, Rayner, Hipwood, Berry etc would not be on huge money. The reason they have fallen short is they didn't have many genuine superstars and a lot of B graders who are good players, but just that notch down from sides who have a few more at the elite matchwinning level. Neale and Cameron the only ones, whereas Melbourne for example would have Petracca, Oliver, Gawn, May. Brisbane would have had plenty of coin to bring in Daniher and Dunkley, and swapped McStay with Gunston.

He has no interest in coming home.
Also, I don't think we should be hitting the trade table. We've already butchered our draft this year, so any trades would cost future picks.

We're going to need those picks. Because we couldn't retain players through this rebuild, it hasn't worked. Freo will be hitting the draft again. Hopefully, this time we don't lose as many players to other clubs, but it seems that's kind of normal for Freo.

My fear is that there seems to be a big swell of poeple who were OK with the rebuild this time because we made a GF just prior. This time I'm not sure they'll stick around, which will make us a minnow club.

More pace
Well the club needs to sell some hope lol. No first rounder this season, likely to miss out on Pickett so nabbing him in the MSD could be good. He is 19 so plenty of improvement left in him.

The eagles will surely take him before us if he keeps showing signs like this.
He hasn't exactly set the world on fire, and Carton would want an F1 because of his 'potential'.

Didn't we learn this lesson?
If we gave an F1 for Jesse Motlop, I’d just about fly over to Perth and set fire to the club at Cockburn.
That would be an outrageous price to pay.

We're talking about Freo. We're diabolically bad at trading.

Watched the last quarter of the Subi vs Claremont game. A young guy did a couple nice things that made me look for a footy budget to look up his name. It was Robert Hanson Jr, a couple days later linked to Freo!
First year of WAFL. Shows promise. Medium risk, high reward. Big yes from me

As someone pointed out, WC would probably snatch him.
