Several alternatives as I see it

1) TDK goes (get late first), swap F1 for another first this year, 3 early draft picks, 2 FA (eg: ruck - Flynn, plus someone like Gresham), 1 or 2 trades gaining maybe a one or two 3rd round draft pick

2) TDK stays, swap F1 for another first this year, 2 early draft picks, 1 or 2 FA (eg: someone like Gresham), 1 or 2 trades gaining maybe a one or two 3rd round draft pick

3) ) TDK stays, keep F1 for next year, 1 early draft pick, 1 or 2 FA (eg: someone like Gresham), 1 or 2 trades gaining maybe a one or two 3rd round draft pick

I can see attractions in option 1 and arguments for option 3, but my preference is option 2... Hoping TDK stays...

Are we satisfied that the midfielders and ruckman (pitto) we currently have will get the job done against quality opposition? Do we have enough quality mids to win a flag or is a tweak necessary?

This is step 1. If answer is yes mids are good enough we move to forward and defense groups. Forward line I believe we need a Papley/Cameron/Elliot type. Defense still needs a KPD to replace young. Not sure what we do with young …keep as depth or move him to another role.

Dylan Williams be a better pick up than Ash imo and would be free as a DFA. Piercing kick who kicks flat and long. Has yet to play up forward where he produced his most damaging football as a junior.

These are the players to really push for, especially if we want to target the draft. What’s Jordan from Melb like? Another DFA.

I don't think Ash is just a hbf, that's where he's found a spot at the Giants. Think he could swing through midfield / wing if needed . We could do a lot worse, though not sure how we'd pick up the tab.
That's fair enough then mate, I just feel as though we've overinvested in similar types which has left us a little short elsewhere & whilst Ash would represent an upgrade on some of our options, the outlay in picks & salary could be better utilised elsewhere.

Depending on if there’s any truth to the TDK being touch and go for this Sunday, we’re potentially down to O’Keeffe as our only available ruckman.

I’m starting to think the most important ability for a ruck might be durability…

Aside from Flynn (RFA), who are the other rucks that are free agents, out of contract, or a realistic option of getting across?

Would we have a chat with Nick Bryan? Would Lloyd Meek move after 1 season? Could we somehow pry Briggs out of GWS with a year running?

If TDK goes to Geelong, I think we should pry Toby Conway from them as part of the trade.

10 VFL games in his debut season, but none yet this year.

Currently on the sidelines recovering from a foot fracture. That worries me greatly in a ruck.

I haven’t seen much of him, what do you like about him?

According to some Cats supporters on the main board, they're only getting TDK over to just fill in before Conway takes the mantle. Apparently he's the next coming.

Personally, if they play hard ball with draft picks, I'd be getting into some of their players to trade in. One who I'd be interested in is Ollie Dempsey - they've locked him away until the end of 2025 I think it is, so they obviously rate him.

Something like Dempsey and their future 2nd for TDK and Essendon's 4th round pick that we got for Setters.

Strength, endurance, tapwork and footy smarts.

He does fill the blonde hair and headband criteria.

If, TDK wants Geelong, I would ask for Brad Close as part of the deal. Then pick up Matt Flynn as a UFA

Either way, think a 3rd club will be involved, if TDK leaves
Still think the more likely outcome would be us gaining Geelong's 1st pick and giving back a F2 or third.

l still think based on Pittonet durability, keeping TDK is important, losing him for less than another 1st rounder is a poor outcome for us.
What would be the attraction for Close to come to Carlton, Geelong seems one of the most attractive clubs to be a part of?

I still think TDK signs a 2 year extension, but no doubt he would want to get to the Cats.

Close would be difficult to extract, but he might be attracted by a better contract and a side that is missing a couple of cogs.

It's a viable starting point in any negotiation, for us at least

We would still have a strong hand dealing with the Cats, so if they want him this year, they would need to pay overs

TdK signing would be ideal but personally I don’t think that will occur. Our team form will need to turn for starters.

I'm still hoping that the Swans come out and make him a godfather offer he can't refuse - although that may depend on Himmelberg's decision.

Beatson has always been a good operator in trades - absolute professional - not so sure about his counterpart who's recently taken over the role down the Princes, who seems to be a wannabe Dodoro.

Swans also have a better draft hand than Geelong for trade options.

Swans have made TDK a monster offer, posted that early in the season.

A couple of other clubs also very keen

It’s a clear no with Pitto, regardless of what I think of his ability (which isn’t much) he is far too unreliable injury wise to be starting next season as our only ruck option. If TDK goes we need to find a genuine number 1 ruck.

What did the Swans give up for Kurt Tippett, seems like a fair comparison.

Ruckman yes. Midfielders, would like more with speed and can push forward and kick goals (easier said than done)
