As was mentioned earlier in this thread, most of H's key indicators are well up this year. The only issue is his goal kicking, which we can solve. We managed to get Casboult sorted, and Earl Spalding (although both took long enough); we can fix H's issues too.

I know Cook said we'd be big into the draft this year, but we'll need some trades to make that happen. O'Brien is a certainty to be traded. Honey too, if anyone is interested.

A KPF on $800k-$1m a year which Harry is. Needs to be kicking 40+ goals a year to justify the huge price tag...

We all know, Harry has the ability to achieve this (and warrant his price tag)...
However, he will need to get his form back and step it up from next year and beyond...

Couldn't see Austin wanting to continue spending $800k-$1m of his cap, if Harry continues producing years like this year...

He kicked 45 last year from 19 games.

One poor year (kicking-wise). He will be fine.

How's this for a development opportunity: a 6ft10 marking machine, who runs like the wind and has the potential (and incidentally has) won a Coleman medal. Only thing is you need to go to a bit of effort to put some development into him to improve his mental strength.
Harry's upside is immense. Like all players - he doesn't come as the perfect package. That's why we have 1000 coaches on the list...to develop these guys and work on their (inevitable) weaknesses. Don't discard him...develop him.

One of my mates after round 1-2 last year said Drop charlie n we still give him shite about it today …some people have no idea …..for me to trade harry I want a player in return and it would have to be an A grader butters like and that’s not happening

The thing I don't understand about the pro-trade H camp is what do we do if we lose Charlie for a few weeks? The great thing about having 2 gun forwards is we've at least got 1 almost all the time.

Outside of 2 missed goals Harry was actually playing really well on Friday. Missed his marks / transition when he went off. Stated a few scoring chains with his marks out of defence / 2 goal assists.

Agreed. People focus on the miss from the goal square - but he started level with his opponent then just burnt him off with pace. A normal 204cm player doesn't kick that goal just for different reasons - they're too slow / unco to get a gap on their opponent.

I agree with others - you try for 10+ years to find a gun key forward. You don't trade them... ever.

Not to mention a bit of a change in role. I’d happily pay 800k for a highly athletic big marking KPF who gets up the ground to offer an outlet, opens the field for Charlie, and can give us 80-90% of Charlie as focal point if needed due to injury. Swans apparently offering similar for his brother tells you everything you need to know.

I’m not sure why people are so worried about our players wages - TDK the only unsigned player who is essential, and we seem to have some money coming off the cap in coming years. Unless you think this team needs a marque big signing to compete, but I don’t see it.

Use the pre season to train Harry up as an adequate chop out ruckman, solves several problems.
H plays most of the game as a marking target high half forward, keeps him away from the goal square expectations and pressure, and TDK becomes our genuine 1st. ruck(no need for the one dimensional Pitto in the senior team)
Also gives JSOS a role, 2nd. chop out ruck and mobile forward marking target.

I find it staggering that people have wanted to trade generational players, over recent years, such as Cripps, Weitering, Charlie and now Harry, yet apparently it's vital that we keep/re-sign fringe players
Exactly right key position players don't grow on trees its easier to find midfielders and flankers

I think there's a bit of magical thinking that goes on regarding 'fringe' players. I don't think everyone grasps the fact that having 'depth' on a list is relative. Not everyone worthy of a contract is going to make a great deal of difference and you still have to have room to move to make the required improvements.

As for your other point, I'm all for the idea that any player is tradable under the right circumstances. If I've learned anything it's that midseason isn't the right time to be making judgements. However, whatever the other circumstances may be, the sum of 'Harry' plus 'this draft crop/year' does not add up.

There is a bit of talk on here about Cuningham and Fogarty with their impact when they go in the middle. Yes they have added something to the team we need and they are playing a role pretty well, but could we find a player who plays the forward role as well or better but has a bigger impact when they go into the middle?

Perhaps an elite forward/mid is exactly what we need.

Draft one, Trade for one and develop one will be the answer. I would guess this is how we would like to spend pick 1. I think we should also put a bit of time into development as well.

Dow would fit in amazingly with Cripps, Walsh, Cerra Kennedy/Hewett as our rotating mid but he needs to up his forward game. He had a small run at half forward against Port and did ok, perhaps we put time into this part of his game.

Philp is supposed to have forward/mid qualities but has not had a run at it.

Motlop if he gets fitter could be an answer here as could Durdin.

We have been developing Carroll here in the VFL but he hasn't come on yet.

Jack Martin is elite at this but his body does not hold up.

Binns could be developed here as we aren't looking for a wingman.

Honey I was hoping would come on here but hasn't.

They will need to be quick, they need to be an impact player. Someone who can do what Dow does, go into the middle, have some really telling clearances and break away with the footy in hand and then go forward kick the odd goal, use their closing speed to apply pressure and win lose balls.

I think this will be the player we will be looking to recruit and develop next season.

Someone who isn't just soaking up minutes in the middle but can go in there an turn a game or keep red hot momentum going but can play the forward role as well.

I am not suggesting that Gresham is the guy to pursue, however I hope the club know that we will need to be aggressive in the trade period to ensure we improve our list. It would be arrogant to think that what we have will be good enough next year, when clubs around us will be getting better, and that we don't need to add pieces. It would also be naive to think that some players who have had great years this season, will just automatically produce the same quality again. That's just how it is.

An experienced key defender is at the top of the list for mine, followed by a dynamic medium forward.

I have full faith in our recruitment team.

Last year we’ve lacked run and we brought in 4 runners (Acres, Hollands, Binn & Cowan)

This year, we’ll identity our need & trade/ draft accordingly - TRUST!

Would make Harry invaluable to us if he could second Ruck...
This would allow us to have another runner in the team...
