Hopefully we don’t try and balance our list with our high draft picks, just need to pick best available.
West Coast and North Melbourne have done a swap on trade day.

North gets pick #1 and West Coast get #2 and #19

if only this happens..
draft day arrives

North has first pick and selects >>>> D. Curtin

West Coast wtf! ....select McKersher

North select Reid with pick #3

WC leave wondering what just happened....:D:D:D

"For the avoidance of doubt, any entitlement to a compensatory selection:
  1. (i) may be exchanged in accordance with the AFL Rules;
  2. (ii) cannot be utilised pursuant to the Father/Son rule; and
  3. (iii) cannot be utilised pursuant to the Listing of Club Academy Player."

Sanders with pick 3 is a no deal now that he is on NGA.

I don’t think that means what you’re saying it does. If we pick him at 3 he will be ours.

If we pick Sanders at 3, why is it a “no deal”?

Reid will have the same problems that JHF, Martin and DeGoey have/had, I don't think they will be really good in the middle until they mature physically and you will need a really strong midfield group to get the most out of them.

If doesn't really matter if it is Curtin or McKercher they are after, if they get Reid then the other two will be long gone.

I think there are some good midfield prospects in this draft, they are just not at the pointy end outside of McKercher and Sanders.

I know Eagles have to rebuild their midfield, but they don't have to do it all during this draft. The next two drafts are allegedly going to be two good midfield drafts.

Culley will be back next year, Kelly is contracted to 2025. Sheed to 2025. Gaff to next year. They picked up Ginbey and Hewett in the first round last year, Chesser in the first round the year before. It is not like the cupboard is completely barren.
They have one of the worst lists in the AFL, worse than ours.
Culley is very average
Kelly has 2 more years
Sheed is injured often and has 2 years at best
Gaff is a shadow of his former self.
They need lots of high end draft picks this year and next. It’s in their best interests to take both PPS of ours next year and pick 2 for pick one this year.

My interpretation of that phrasing indicates listed academy players or father sons cannot be taken with compensatory picks ie free agent picks or AFL assistance picks.

Happy to be wrong.

What will we have to give up for Zac Fisher? #39

NGA is different to academy i'm led to believe

Nah, it means the pick can't be used to match bids on any academy players or father son selections.

If we get pick 3 as compo, it is our pick to do with what we wish. If we rate Sanders highly enough to take him with that, he's ours.

If we manage to turn our future firsts into a mid first rounder and second rounder while scaling up to pick 1 and/or targeting Geelong/Dogs first round picks if we miss out on GC pick 4, think we should take Darcy Wilson and Archer Reid. Looks clear we want more speed hence Wilson and Reid is a late tall development pick, along with Mitch Edwards with our end of first rounder as ruck replacement.

A draft haul of possibly Reid/Curtin (1/2), Mckercher (3), Wilson (7 or 10 pushed back into the early teens with FA compo and bids), Schoenmaker (14 but becomes 18-20, Edwards (19 but becomes something like 23-25) and A. Reid (25-30) fills some gaps as well as secures talls to develop for our future.

Rekon Darcy Wilson is player North need. Really can help out with running out of defence and transition forward

That is exactly the type of draft haul we should be looking at.

A good bunch of talented kids combined with last years high end picks would set us up nicely for 2025 onward.
