Benefit of bringing in Clarko and hopefully grabbing some talented assistants is that we should be able to develop our own quality players.

Hope we can bring in a raft of kids over the next two years and watch them blossom. We need some older heads but brining in kids who can work in productive system for the next 10+ years will set us for long term success and help us avoid the situation we’re currently in with large holes in required age groups.

Disappointed to not see any Jack Mahoney or Daniel Howe wannabes on those draft boards, they need better inspiration

BW: A few more that we’re asking all prospects, Harley. If you were West Coast and had Pick 1, who would you take?

HR: Ooh … I reckon it depends. A few older ones have retired, so it depends what position they’re looking for. They’ve got a good forward, they’ve got a good small forward … You couldn’t go wrong with Dan Curtin. He’s really versatile – and obviously he’s from WA, so he wouldn’t have to move too far.

BW: You would’ve played against Dan in the champs and with him for the Academy side. What are some of his strengths?

HR: He nails his kicking. He’s a top bloke, too, and he’s a team player, which is what we all love and every club would love to have. He’s got great skills and he’ll always be there too on that last line of defence.
Thanks Harley, we’ll take him at 3 and by the sounds of it you’d like to be his team mate in a couple of years!

I just hope Curtin is being 100% honest if that’s the way it falls for us and we draft him.
Because of that campaigner that ran back to Alberton, it makes me a little nervous however it shouldn’t as he is an outlier

Top-five AFL draft prospect Daniel Curtin says he would “love the opportunity” to move to Melbourne as he shapes as a key piece in any trade for the No.1 draft pick.

West Coast, which currently holds the first selection in the draft, has indicated this week that it is likely to hold onto that pick.

However, the Eagles remain open to offers and have held discussions with clubs including North Melbourne about what a trade of picks could look like.

If West Coast is to trade the No.1 pick, it is expected the Eagles would want to retain access to the highly-rated Curtin with another early selection.

The Kangaroos – who hold pick No.2 – have also shown significant interest in Curtin, a 195cm West Australian who is likely to start his AFL career as a key defender but hopes to eventually progress into midfield and forward roles.

“Obviously staying in WA would be awesome, but at the same time I’d absolutely love the opportunity to go to Melbourne,” Curtin said on Friday.

“I do want to be a very loyal player if I do get the opportunity to get drafted.”

Asked how he would enjoy being coached by Alastair Clarkson at North Melbourne if that opportunity presented, Curtin said he was would be all for it.

“It would be an absolute honour,” he said.

“He’s a very accomplished coach and I’m sure there’s still things he wants to do. I would love to be coached by him.”

Clarkson was among the North Melbourne staff to attend the national draft combine on Friday, but Curtin was one of a large number of top-end players to sit out testing.

The 18-year-old played a key role in a premiership for Claremont in the WAFL Colts last weekend, but suffered some hamstring awareness in the aftermath.

“It’s nothing too serious. It’s just nothing worth risking,” Curtin said.

Harley Reid (knee), Jed Walter (knee), Colby McKercher (foot), Nick Watson (foot) and Jake Rogers (back) were among other first-round draft prospects to be sidelined for the 2km time trial on Friday afternoon.

Sandringham Dragons wingman Tarkyn O’Leary blitzed the field as he ran a time of 5min 48sec.

O’Leary edged out Murray Bushrangers wingman Darcy Wilson (5min 52sec), while 200cm Gold Coast Suns Academy ruckman Ethan Read crossed the line in a time of 5min 56sec.

The draft hopefuls will be put through more club interviews and medical testing on Saturday, before completing agility, sprint and jump testing on Sunday.

Have heard we won’t be overpaying anything silly for Harley. Happy to take 2 & 3 to the draft worst case.

This is good news. 2, 3, 14, 19 is ludicrous just as it is.

The only thing we really must do, is get some value for the two late F1's, either by creeping up this year or next.

2, 3 and a Osullivan would be game changing.

Heard the opposite is a possibility we’re considering

Everyone's definition of "overpaying anything silly" is going to differ... If we want pick 1/Reid that much, we will overpay in terms of draft pick points, but it's a matter of how much and what gets into "silly" territory.

Presuming no player(s) get involved AND Gold Coast do not get involved directly, I see 3 realistic options that West Coast would consider and we wouldn't necessarily walk away:

===

2, 19 & 2024 end of 1st round for 1 (I don't think West Coast does this, but worth a try)

===

2 & 14 for 1

===

2, 10 (GC pick) & NM 2024 R3 for 1 & WC 2024 R2

===

My gut feeling is that West Coast will want a bit more than all of those 3 trades, so it's a matter of if we are willing to throw in our 2024 end of 1st rounder (if we have 1 left after the trade for GC's pick 10) or 2024 R2 pick to the 2nd & 3rd options above.

Correct. The impression I got is it’s not going to be anything close to 2 & 3 for 1 as an example.

We've been talked into thinking they would "want a bit more" from their muppet posters flooding all boards with BS.

Pick 2 IS the bit more than usual.

If we were holding 5 or 6, and offered up 5, 19 & 2024 end of 1st round for 1 it would be still in the realms of being acceptable.

Once 2 enters the chat, anything, anything at all on top is a bonus. They still get their guy, plus something, as opposed to taking Reid at 1, which this whole thing is built on the premise of, he's not keen to go west.

I can see it from their view, he's been their messiah all year, pay up or **** off...But we're over here saying, **** your pick one. We're good with 2, 3, 14, 19. If you want the multiple firsts, like our 9 over 3, then we can facilitate that, within reason.

I'm back in the camp of not offering much if trading at all. I'm now more concerned about targetting the best talls on offer.

Exactly. We wanted everything for JHF. Let alone pick 1.

Recall fans on our board wanted Pick 8, F1 and Zak Butters... or something along those lines.

But in the end was P1, JHF (2021 P1) for P2, P3, P14. So essentially P1 for P2, P14 + JHF for P3.
