If Hawks pick Watson....*. looks bad going off the BF wraps for Duursma.

Would be Reid and Osullivan/Caddy then?

Assuming we have the following board:

REID
MCKERCHER
WATSON
O'SULLIVAN

DUURSMA?
CADDY?
I’d be fine with Duursma. Most recruiters know who is going where. I mean Twomey got something like the first 13 right last year. Alternatively we hold 1 and 3 whilst WC hold 2 and 5, assuming Hawks won’t want Curtin, but again that’s a risk for them. As I’ve said, the pick numbers bar 5 won’t matter.

The draft is falling into tiers of player’s currently.

Reid
Walter

Mckertcher
Curtin
Dursma
Watson
Read

Caddy
Saunders
Sully

If we end with 2-3 it’s 2 of those. Everyone will have different opinions on that but the club really isn’t to wrong getting any of those guys.

That being said shocked if Mckertcher gets past us. Shocked if Dursma gets past Hawks

Based on Bradys video, the deals are already done.

So your saying, Brady should never play cards then? Lol

As Ura posted 1 above, 2 & 3 isn't a bad thing.

If there is a trade, it comes down to what else was lost moving 2,3 into 1,5. Theoretically, it should be very little if anything.

Can we still trade up in the aftermath and go with 1,5,10 ?

I look forward to finding out 😉

If we could get McKercher plus 2 players from tier 2 that would be a good result for mine.

Caddy’s champ performance still concerns me. He didn’t stand up like some other forwards ir. Morris and Rudd were more impressive when it counted. Thoughts?

Morris only played the one good champs game. Two of them he played defence and didn’t look that flash down there. Rudd is okay but VFL will be his level, just doesn’t have an athletic point of difference unfortunately.

Given I've seen hardly anything of him, how does Curtin compare as a defender to say Weitering who is the same height?

Weitering was a one on one specialist as a junior. Very much defensively minded first, intercept 2nd. Relied on his body positioning and reading of the play.

Curtin plays more as a third tall link up player, he does however have the capacity to play purely as a stopper as he showed when he went head to head with Walter at the championships.

I really wish we seen more of Curtin ad a genuine defender this year, rather than so much time in the midfield. Imo he isn’t the next Bont or Cripps.

In fairness to Brady if the deals are done there’s no point even looking at cards.

1 Reid NM
2 Walter GCS
3 McKercher WCE
4 Curtin WCE
5 Duursma HAW
6 Watson NM

Taking into account that I think that the Wardlaw,Sheezel, pick 14>JHF, Pick 1 trade worked out well for us, we did effectively give up 2 PICK 1s.

WC are giving up 1 pick 1, and in return getting a similar haul.

That does not seem fair.

Yes but not the best kid in the draft due to father sons. This year the best kid in the draft is a legitimate pick 1

What deals are done Psicosis
Wish I knew the exact deals. Brady cops his fair whack of criticism on here (largely from the Noble era), but where I think he's very good is his creativity with pick swaps. I look forward to seeing what he can do with what is a godfather hand of picks.

This would be somewhere around my dream scenario…

Start with:

2023: 2, 3, 14, 19, 40, 52, 60

2024: F1, PP1, PP2, F2, F3, F4

Trade PP1 & PP2 to GC once they acquire WB pick 10. GC will need points next year as the have Leo Lombard and a few others that will once again be taken in the top 30.

Pick 52 for Dylan Stephens

Pick 40 & Pick 60 for GC Pick 35. Pick 35 to Carlton for Zac Fisher.

Future 3rd to GC for Caleb Graham

Trade Pick 10 to GWS for Pick 6 and Hayes Salary dump.

Go to the future drafts with:

2023: 2,3,6,14 & 19.

2024: F1, F2 & F4.

2023
Pick 2: Curtin
Pick 3: McKercher/Watson
Pick 6: Caddy/O’Sullivan
Pick 14: Wilson/Windsor/Freijah
Pick 19: Edwards/Reid/Schoenmaker
Rookie 1: Ethan Phillips

2023 ins: Stephens, Fisher, Graham, Haynes, Curtin, McKercher, Caddy, Wilson, Edwards & Ethan Phillips

2024 still have F1, F2, F4.

I was really keen on adding another elite runner with pick 14. Someone like Wilson, Freijah or Windsor.

With Stephens & Fisher joining us I think that need for outside run is less of a priority. In the event we keep 14 & 19 I’m tipping we are going to go tall.

Based on Rawlings interview, I'm pretty much ignoring our current draft hand and thinking about possibilities for the next fortnight.

I'm hoping it's just a case of targeting Pick 4/Pick 10 with the PP's etc, but I'm not holding my breath.

It sounds extremely unlikely we are going to hold either Pick 2 or Pick 3 come draft night imo.
