* Didn't appear in some draft watchers top 30s so gave a score of 31 for that player from that draft watcher
I don’t think the draft is as shallow as people are making out.

indeed, but who are the 'people' doing the 'making out' - journos with an interest in hyping "trading up" as a matter of existential survival, the eternal 'who won the draft' bulldust

The only nominally objective evidence I've heard for the 'weak draft' argument is that Vic Metro kids aren't prominent, but maybe that's just because the quality is evening out. Two seconds ago the sky was falling in because Tassie wasn't producing draft prospects - now Tassie kids have brained the national champs and the sky is still falling in.

Just get me to November 20 with all my marbles intact

I don't think so either I just think it's quite speculative and even after the top 15ish players, which is why I don't think our teens picks hold as much value this year as they might have in other drafts. A player you might want at 17 could be there at 30 and vice versa.

I guess having 3 picks early in that block at least means you have a good chance of getting the ones you want, even if they may have drifted back to 30 where you don’t have picks.

Different types of players. But Duursma’s output as a forward far exceeds Reid. Reid gets thrown around a lot though. Duursma better lead/leap/overhead mark, Reid more contested/physical.

McKercher’s output as a mid far exceeds that of Reid. Again though Reid never really plays as a full time mid. McKercher’s balance between inside/outside game, ability to accumulate and his speed are his biggest points of difference to Reid.
That assessment is really confusing. Why is he the clear no.1 again?

If WC refuse to trade pick 1/keep playing silly buggers. Should try and trade up 2 picks in the teens to get Sanders.
Take 2, 3, Sanders, Teen Pick to the draft.

Would not be offended by that outcome.

Because he is a match winner, one that can perform in any part of the ground and one that has strong leadership credentials.

In saying that I don’t see him as a clear number one. If we had one and Walter was available in the draft pool then we’d take Walter, I’m certain of it.

I’m of the opinion that Reid will be a solid player, but he isn’t going to be “generational” in the Hodge mould. I just don’t see it.

Can we please just pick players that are footysmart? We need as much, smarts, skill and run as we can get.

In saying that, a player with speed who can actually shit down an opposition small AND end up playing 200 games (Atley) would be handy with pick 18.

The smart move for Brady would be to start making an overt play for Geelong’s pick 8. If WC is holding out for a better offer they’d realise they risk getting no deal at all. It would force them to contemplate the deal on the table or acknowledge they’re not actually seriously interested in trading.
A conversation has occurred. I’m just bloody nervous it may be with the intention of handing over 8 + one of our first two.

What have you got against oppo smalls? That seems excessive.

Shooter McGavin - "I eat pieces of oppo smalls for breakfast".

I hope we don’t sell the farm for a ”solid player”.

I just can’t help feeling we are being greedy. We have just won the lottery and now we are putting it all on black.

I wad speaking to a bloke who watches a fair bit of junior footy and he has concerns with Duursma's hardness. Any of our blokes counter this?

I’m anti Dursma at 3 for us specifically.

That said, I arch through his highlights and he was getting poleaxed and kept getting back up which I liked.

Apparently there aren’t even 10 good players, it’s being marketed as top 8 picks or bust, so will be interesting. Although 8 will push out to at least 10 as academy picks are shrodinger adjacent apparently….
It’s counterintuitive they try to heighten the top 10 and create drama and intrigue around pick swaps and trading up and then expect people to tune into the second night to watch clubs select 40 ‘talentless hacks’.

I wouldn’t look too deep into the averages. One of the so called draft watchers didn’t know a kid didn’t play in the national champs. 😳

Cmon man, it was a simple copy and paste error that anyone could have done
No need to single out PMBangers
