Delicate balance to strike with selection this week. We don't want to lose what we have been putting out there but changes are inevitable with some of the personnel that will be available. If we only brought back Harry and JSOS this week I'd be Ok with that. I'd omit Pitto and Ed. We would gain some much needed tall timbre in the forward line and wouldn't lose anything in terms of competitiveness. Harry and JSOS were pretty involved in the earlier rounds of our revival and deserve to play a big part in where we may get to.

Another week of rest into Cez, McGov and Walshy should have them cherry ripe. Having said that though, if they have completely recovered and are available to be picked we just have to find a spot for them. Nice problems to have.

Harry & JSOS both expected to be available to play …

Harry McKayKneeHas been back in full training.

So going by the latest injury update it is…

Available this week: Harry & SOS
Available next week: Walsh, Cerra, Gov
Maybe next week: Kennedy

So we get all 6 back prior to finals.

Interested to see how this week’s MC plays out. Think we’re too tall with all of McKay, SOS, Pitto and TDK in the same team.

SOS via reserves perhaps?

Team selection is tough now. I will just talk about one issue - the ruck conundrum.

I now believe our best combination is TDK + one of Pitto/JSOS. I think we play Pitto when there is a dominant tap ruckman (like Gawn or Witts), but play JSOS against everybody else.

With that in mind, I'd prefer JSOS plays VFL this weekend, playing at least 50% ruck.

What I don't want us to do is play all 4 of TDK, Pitto, JSOS and Harry. Our forwardline will be way too heavy with 4 talls.

Agree.

Jsos also is more mobile and better at ground level than Pitto who to be honest doesn’t really offer anything else but a big body around the contest.

Just quietly - what a great conundrum to have at this time of year. It’s a welcomed change from previous years.

Prefer TDK and JSOS as a chop out. Pitto is a tap and not really much else. Questionable kick, doesn’t score…

While JSOS doesn’t win the tap, he’s got great work around the feet - he goes from ruck to rover in a split second. And his ability to score and defend were a key factor in us flogging teams til he got injured.

I do like the idea of JSOS earning his spot back in the vfl as he takes time usually to get going.

If that’s the case I would still drop pitto and ask Harry to chop out but I think if TDK rucks permanently around the ground and Harry/Cripps/Curnow ruck forward then we will be okay. TDK does need to start building up to rucking all game. He won’t get used to the physicality and endurance unless it starts happening. His next off season is going to be huge.

If there’s a ground that tests hammy’s it’s Metricon.

Soft & Spongey!

Like they’re taking their time with a couple of high performance vehicles.

Interesting that Walsh's 2-3 weeks has turned into 4 weeks.

But not worried, hopefully they just being ultra conservative given the tram is going well anyway and we need Walsh fresh for a big finals series.

Haven’t heard of any setbacks - the advice seems sure on next week back in which is great.

Suspect they are taking zero chances.

A big no from me to Harry being back up ruck off a knee injury coming up against Witts and Levi.

We need two rucks against Witts as TDk has struggled with him in the past so one of SOS or Pitto should also play.

If H is fit he’s in with one of the small forwards (Fog or Mots) or one of the wings (Hollands or Cotts) making way.

I also can’t see Boyd dislodging Fisher in the 22 although Boyd may come in if Doc misses with injury.

I'd be dropping a small before Cottrell, he's vital to the Blue Wall we set up across the field
It's a great point. From the outside it's hard to know exactly how removing one part of the system will change the balance. I'm hoping the coaches can get this right.

Walsh, Cerra, Boyd seem easier to slot in as you can pretty much change like for like. McKay is hard because you will be dropping a small for a tall.

JSOS hard too - seems like the only spot he might take is a ruckman's

Boyd was elite in the vfl last week. Deserves promotion. Too good for that level.
