Like most on here I'm gutted by the performance which was almost a rinse and repeat of the last time there in terms of lack of mental application. We pretty much just had our pants pulled down for all of the football world to see.

Surprised to read though that a lot of posters have made mention of not making top 4. Not sure that they were ever reasonable expectations. The media dangled that out and some have fallen in. My expectations for this season are to make finals. That is par. Winning one would be an amazing step forward IMO. I'll hold back on passing judgement unless making finals becomes realistically out of the equation.

Hold fast Baggers.

Nail on the head.

This is why the talk about percentage not mattering really peeves me. It assumes that we're a safe top 4 to 6 team.

Based on what Exactly? That we missed finals last year on percentage and suffered from a shit injury list. All it takes is another draw featuring one (or two) potential finalists over the last 22 rounds (from when we had our draw) through to the end of the season and we're in a dog fight where percentage matters from multiple clubs with finals aspirations
.
Richmond will come good. They've had a horror run to start the year.

We've had a shit injury run so far but that's par for the course. It may or may not improve over the course of the season. History tells us we have too many players prone to injury and some (Doc and McGovern missing last night, Pittonet who went down early) are vital for our structure.

Finals is the goal regardless of how hyped the media makes us and how much we have bought into it. They love to build us up and then have even greater pleasure in tearing us down.

Last night was dreadful. It's not the end of the world.

A nights rest and a dry April has done nothing to lift my mood. That performance was simply abysmal. Our first month results flattered us and here is the reality check.

I'm certain I'm not the only one who watched gobsmacked as "tackle" after tackle was brushed aside. (I use that term loosely, so too do the officials as apparently, we attempted 75)

How routinely we were outnumbered in contests.
How easily Adelaide scythed their way through and delivered cleanly to their forwards.
They even had time to get cute and kick to even better options inside 50, fumble and still goal.
The biggest insult was watching a heavily bandaged Fogarty destroy us.
The same guy who only just passed a fitness test?
How did he mark inside OUR 50, get on a chain of possessions and take a mark even closer to goal, because the 1st kick inside 50 wasn’t close enough.

How poor and haphazard was our disposal by compaison?
How painful and timid our ball movement was in defence?
How utterly monstered were our mids?
Cripps, must be carrying something. A really poor game from our skipper. I Love him but if he is going to do that, he needs to sit out a week to freshen up.
Weitering, ermmm, impose yourself man. Plant the flag, be the leader. you should be
Hewett, can we not play injured players.
Fisher, downhill skier will be his epitaph.
McKay, go back to your psych and book in some double sessions. Last week and this, missing some of those shots is almost too hard to believe. Talk about the yips. Whoa!
Acres, is he really an upgrade? Is he? (Setterfield says hello)
TDK, yes this is a bit cheeky, keep it up and you simply won’t be getting the cash you think you will, here or elsewhere.
Solves a salary cap issue if he stays, we will get not as much if he leaves. Just needs to be and should be better.

Biggest whack, Voss and his coaching team. What is the plan when things don’t go your way? How many times do you need to be punched in the face before you change it up? We were cooked at quarter time. When players look as listless as ours did it is because they don't believe, they just don't trust the plan. We are predictable. The sad thing is that we have the ingredients of a really good side. Keep this up and we are throwing it away. If the Saints towel us up, this forum will be in revolt.

Positives?
Walsh. Exceeded my expectations.
Hollands. This kid can run, build some hard-sinewy muscle on him and watch him fly.
Cowan. Finally, a guy who looks like he gives a shit, shows some grunt. Actually, I thought Stocker did, that’s another story being played out at the Saints. If Stock hurts us next week... oh sweet Jesus.
Cerra, I thought he tried hard.
Charlie. Looked dangerous despite our attempts to kill him by hack entries inside 50

Oh well, on to next week.
P.S. can we give Dow or Kemp a run or are they in the trash awaiting disposal. (another 2 examples of talent that would flourish elsewhere)

What are Durdin, Motlop and Honey doing on field when we see Harry and Charlie being constantly outnumbered? Genuine question.

Yes, it's a question I ask myself. I don't even see them around when the ball falls to the ground...probbaly already running back to protect space for where the imaginary opposition players will go to...is it any wonder, opp sides waltz the ball out of our F50?

it's a funny one - some weeks they're there (at the feet of the KPPs where they should be). other weeks (last night and the Tigers game) they're simply nowhere to be seen.....

With the buildup all week in Adelaide Grand Final like atmosphere, we drew the short straw unfortunately. The spotlight was fairly and squarely on this game that had the feel of the whole country had gone there to see it, the Crows performance reflected this.
The positive for us is we got a glimpse of who is up to finals football.
Not going to name names but 'gee' the Vanilla with a cherry on top of the newbies was delicious.

At no stage was Ross ever straight up offered the position or had a contract put in front of him.

The club put feelers out to see if he was interested.

He confirmed that he was. They then put him through the process.

In employment terms you can say that he was shortlisted.

This!

He also refused to go through the process at *.

So that is 2 Clubs he refused due to not wanting to go through the process being questioned in front of a panel.

The biggest problem with Vossy's coaching is that he coaches to a system and not to the list that he has st his disposal.

There is no flexibility.

When he insists that we are systems oriented, I agree with him.

With all of the structural losses we sustained before, pre, and during the game, last night was the night that he was required to move away from the system and utilise his players in much more suitable roles.

For example, I love TDK but I have serious concerns as to whether his skill set will ever marry up to the role in Vossy's system that he needs him to. It's a square peg in a round hole. On the other hand,Pittonet is perfect for his role even though he's not a world beater

Had he not been so public about his desire to coach us (which always sat wrong with me, he was doing it well before Teague was out the door FFS) this board wouldn't have as many posters hung up on it.

He played us to improve his own stock. Prick.

And the Crows came in switched on and wanted it far more than the Blues. Credit where credit's due.
I think they are just excuses that we use to justify the performance.. but I like most Carlton fans had hoped we would be a top 4 team this year and challenge for the whole thing... Last night showed we are miles away from that.

Goodwin coached a flag, let’s lay off Voss for the moment
Hopefully Voss will too, I wish him total success at Carlton, but this is a forum where the clubs direction is openly discussed.
I'm supportive of all the players on our list, but wouldn't mind seeing senior players relegated to VFL for a spell if they're inconsistent and form VFL players given AFL time.
There's been major improvement in the running of the club, but I'm not falling into the line of 'everything's hunky dory mate, we are doing the best possible with this playing list they've been burdened with'.

Well that's done and dusted, next week i want to see that we learned something from last night, i haven't given up yet.
I hope we learn from last night too…big wake up call. clubs are playing that fast footy and we can’t match it. Need to adjust somehow.

I think that most Carlton fans expected Top 8 this year, not Top 4. That was always going to be a bit of a reach, everything would need to fall perfectly into place for that to happen. Fans having unrealistic expectations isn't on the Club or the players, it's on those fans themselves.

For all those blues supporters who's head's were stuck in the sand.... welcome to 2023 reality check. Same team that won 4 of its last 12 games last year as well as losing its last 4 on the trot to miss finals IS back! Not the 8-2 team before that when we took everybody by surprise including ourselves with a new coach and gameplan. Have been figured out. Even Cripps can't save us as even he is bring exposed for his lack of 2 way running and genuine leg speed, he is a KP size not a so called big bodied midfielder he is huge! Add that to DeKoning, McKay,Pittonet,Young all 200cm+ and then you have Weitering and Charlie also... Way too slow, lack agility also for repeat pressure acts. Better off with a team mainly of gut runners like Walsh,Hollands,Acres,Obrien and the kid Binns in the 2's, game has changed with the rules, better skilled kickers, fitness levels etc. We are way off.... at least 2-3 good drafts and finishing of bad contracts like Martin, McGovern,Williams and even Cripps as he is at the age where his youthful run will drop off especially with his size.... Go the Storm...

% definitely matters.

We dropped from 114% to 96.3% last night.

How can anyone forget what happened rnd 23 last year.

% cost a a place to remain in the 8 & play finals for the 1st time since 2013.

Meh, we are just as likely to come out and beat St. Kilda next week. Hopefully McGovern playss next week, ,losing him and Doc and then Pitto during the game screwed us. Adelaide was switched on and everything they tried early came off for them.

There is no doubt that we need to improve but we have known that alll along. This game doesn't change my perception of where we sit. The season isn't over after losing our first game in round 5.
yeh thats true, prob come out and smack them by 6 goals 🤣
