I don't think we can make any assumptions on Welsh at this stage ....too early

Remember the rave reviews about Moir this time last year ......everyone saying we'd have to have a top 5 pick to have any hope of getting him
Very true, however the talent guys should have a pretty good idea. Harley Reid and Jed Walter were rated top 2 for this draft a long way out. If Welsh is actually rated top 5 by clubs at this stage then it is a very high chance that our pick next year, which could easily be high teens, will be worthless to us.

So, I'm just catching up. Is the latest Clarry being discharged from hospital rumour already proven to be nonsense?

From the rumours board. Potentially lines up with Skams post. Melbourne BF board thread just kicking off with it to now.
Clayton Oliver is apparently in hospital due to cocaine and alcohol use last night. I can't validate the source, just stating what I've heard. May not be true, take it with a grain of salt please.

You'd wonder if other clubs would be prepared to take him in the ND if they have to pay up both on his contract and a draft pick

Port have already made the decision to spend it anyway
ND not so much, but if a team had a late-ish pick and he was still there maybe. But as you said they may only value him at 300K a year and if he has a 600K a year contract that would turn them away.

First time I have ever felt sorry for Port.
Give yourself an uppercut..

No one should ever feel sorry for that bunch of entitled flogs!

who clearly think that they can commit to trade in players when they have bugger all trade capital and just expect the other teams to accept what the power offer them for said players.

Fxxk them.. its about time clubs have turned around a said GAGF’d to them.

Geelong would have clearly told them “we will demand your F1 for Rat”.. and the powa have arrogantly traded it out (for what was a terrible deal mind you) thinking geelong would then simply have to accept the left overs..

I have a message for all Crows posters on here that feel the same way as you.

It’s a bit too early to rate Welsh that high for a few reasons

One is we haven’t seen the best of him due to his back injury / fitness …. Maybe he’s even better than we think when fully fit

Also having watched the futures game on GF day and the bottom agers in the national champs there looks to be some generational midfield talent in next years draft

Welsh could be the 10-15th best player next year and still be better than the 7th or 8th best this year

Long way to go but I can’t see him missing the 1st round

I think its simpler than that - you simply can't trade PSD picks or not that I am aware of

Yep they've never been able to be traded.

It's never been allowed because clubs could/would abuse it to circumvent having to trade with clubs for players.

With Welsh, it'll depend on if he grows .....as a KPF his Draft Value will be higher, than a 191cm Cook type 3rd fwd .....or clone of his father

That's not suggesting he won't be good by the way

You don’t think that we increased salaries of players like Soligo and Rachelle when we signed them to big deals after their rookie contracts. What about the other 10 guys we re signed this year?

We certainly have cap room, but it wouldn’t be anything like $2m.
well what do you think we had planned to pay Day and Redman? Clearly well over 1m, closer to 1.5m IMO. We planned to bid for both of these guys this year.

Plus Doedee / Mc Adam surely would have collectively been on 800k+ also

I actually think it could be more than 2m

I’m not too fussed on the height thing , he will be a very similar height to Tex Fog Darling and that’s plenty enough

Especially when you factor in his speed / power and ground ball play

Redman offer was in the low 600s and less than I was expecting . Didn’t really turn his head

Day would have been interesting , surely north of 800k

yes i thought Redman would be around 650k ish and Day 750-800k for 5 years. All up close on 1.5m between both.

IMO, Crows would be sitting on a HUMUNGUS WAR CHEST like we have never seen before. As in we could pay both Haynes 1.2m AND bring in Petty 800k (or more as reported in his first year)
