There's absolutely nothing stopping Reid being poached from North by a Vic club that isn't anchored to the bottom of the ladder.

People seem to be assuming that it's safe for North to pick him and he'll never leave.

I’m not suggesting it can’t happen but how often does a high profile player or early draft pick change teams in Vic?
Im struggling to think of one.

That assumes the Clubs know what their players do after hours .....clearly ADEL didn't with Stengle, so I doubt WWT could vouch for him with any conviction

It’s literally insane to assume any change or knowledge of change in his proclivities

Or how prevalent / impactful such matters were

Just tawdry gossip of the most insidious kind.

No one speculates the same way about Brad Crouch

The same reason JHF told North he was happy to come to VIC and wanted the challenge of moving from home. Didn’t want North to deal with Adelaide - much harder to change from Adelaide to Port (maybe impossible with the backlash) if the Crows had given up so much to draft him

West Coast just need to hold until draft night

When it comes to the crunch, North will pay picks 3 & 4 for pick 1. Why would you not?

I totally agree this is what will happen. I think it's the only offer I'd take for pick 1 if I was WC.

However the trade would be 1 for 2 & 3 because the GC academy kid wouldn't have been selected at the time of the trade. I get what you're saying but it's not accurate. Jed could go pick 1 realistically. I would make GC pay. Then the trade would be 2 for 3 & 4.

It wouldnt surprise me if North try and have the best of both worlds.

Maybe instead of Picks 2,3 for Pick 1, do Pick 2 and F1 and thereby keeping their Pick 3 in 2023.

Eagles need to rebuild over a number of years, its not about smashing one draft.

What pick did Thilthorpe get drafted at?

2, 15 and F1 could get it done. Should be another top 5 pick next year. Not sure if North would offer that though.

At some stage North need to stop taking top end mids and building the rest of their side out.

They’re gonna risk ending up like GWS with all this amazing midfield talent being played out of position and wanting to leave.

Very good point... as they have drafted in so much top end midfield talent.

Time for them to start drafting key position players... so why give up overs for pick 1 midfielder.

If anything, north should be taking curtin!
Curtin will be hunted by west coast and freo from year 1 at north..

north is no powerhouse vic team… they destined to become another feeder club like suns and gws over the next few years as they are going to have all this top end talent and their salary cap wont allow them to hold onto it.

WC isn't taking pick 10 as the deal for pick 1.
Also, why would North trade 3 for 10 and 14?
I think that's what pick 1 is worth, get pick 10 for dropping down a spot.

North would do it to keep something.

Melbourne might offer something like this I think as part of the North West coast trade.

If you read the article that was written about Stengle and his return to AFL football.. and the words of Anna (eddies missus) when they interviewed her for the article.. She actually credits WWT for helping Tyson turn it all around and resurrecting his career.. not Geelong. He was already on track before he landed at geelong..

Which is an even more damning indictment against the crows..

Even a pissant little SANFL club showed it could deal with and help manage a troubled player better than the crows could!.

The crows just dumped him like a hot potato so it could look tough on troubled players to the media and its pathetic appricot slice munching brigage of tossers that make up a fair chunk of its supporter base..

And boy didnt that backfire for the crows.. he turned into an AA small forward that won a flag.. and we got NOTHING for him in return!..

Just more brilliant list management!..

What's often overlooked is that all his known indiscretions occurred outside the set regime of training and playing. Surely that gives you a head start in terms of helping the player avoid future challenging periods.

He was pick 3 in 2009.

If Melbourne weren't such an off-field basketcase at the time, I wonder how close to his level Scully and Trengove (1&2) would've gotten.

scully had a pretty decent career despite a problematic knee whilst Trengove never recovered from that foot injury. Interesting reading a couple of quotes from Trengove in terms of handing back co-captaincy and doing what's right for the team. Fair bit of maturity, team first attitude and realism from a 22 year old and in the other corner we have Rory Sloane.

Yes I agree that North shouldn't spend so much capital on another mid when they have already invested so much into that area. If I was a North supporter I would be hoping they took Curtin and Duursma with picks 2 and 3. Gives them some potential elite talent forward and back.

If they keep loading up on mids, they will get to the point where they have to play mids out of position as they can't fit them all in. You would rather have natural forwards and defenders playing in these roles rather than shoe horning mids there as you have too many.
