Melbourne's whole "nothing to see here, move along" club statement gives me big crows camp vibes...
it also reminds me of this.

Felt like the time was now, he’ll still be in contract next year. If he really wanted to come home he could have just requested a trade and that would have been easy to justify given the stink around Melbourne.HANNAH PETTY SAYS CROWS TARGET IS “KEEN TO MOVE HOME” TO SA AT SOME STAGE
Petty is close to his family and grew up in Wuddina, South Australia. His sister Hannah is also a professional athlete and is the captain of the Adelaide Thunderbirds in Super Netball.
Speaking to SEN SA The Run Home, Hannah discussed Adelaide’s approach to her brother with host Kym Dillon, where she admitted that Harrison is keen to come home at some stage.

“I had a few conversations with him about it.”www.sen.com.au
Petty may well still be a target, but I doubt the Mirage of KPD value around the league that was this offseason will be anywhere near as outlandish next year. Especially, for us if Murray comes back and performs they way he was in 2023 before the knee.I wonder if we'll trade picks into 2024 to give ourselves currency to have a crack at Petty next year?
Next year, we have to try to get a quality mid before a welsh bid so a 25' 1st is all that should be on table for PettyFelt like the time was now, he’ll still be in contract next year. It's an interesting one - we'll need to offer them more than what they'll get as a free agent if we want him next year. If it's close, they're not going to release him.Next year, we have to try to get a quality mid before a welsh bid so a 25' 1st is all that should be on table for Petty

If its a choice between going for (ie be trading draft capital to get into a position for) a draper or other top mid + wesh or missing that top end mid and taking petty + welsh...its the former a million times out of a million in my eyeIt's an interesting one - we'll need to offer them more than what they'll get as a free agent if we want him next year. There’s no discounts for pre agents. He will be a 'pre-agent' next year though wont he? Melb will have to move him if they want to cash in or know he will walk the year after as a free agent.
I keep hearing Wilson being projected by recruiters as a flanker at AFL level (The Age) .....so is there any MID likely to be available at #10 that's going to make a significant difference ....doubtfulI truly believe if we can grab the best mid available at our 1st pick this year (maybe wilson) ad then next year execute a pick swap to try for a draper for example...THAT puts our list into premiership territory in the coming years. You just have to bat deep with A grade mids and have a quality set of forwards(we do) and what looks like a quality young developing defence (we do)
Plenty of flankers and wingmen grow into being midfielders as they mature.I keep hearing Wilson being projected by recruiters as a flanker at AFL level (The Age) .....so is there any MID likely to be available at #10 that's going to make a significant difference ....doubtful
Next year appears our best chance of an "A-grade" Mid
This was a survey of Club recruiters on how a player would project at AFL levelPlenty of flankers and wingmen grow into being midfielders as they mature.
True - though I'd say people got Dawson, Day, Laird and a bunch of others wrong. There's a lot you don't know at 18.This was a survey of Club recruiters on how a player would project at AFL level
Yes I agree, many players start out in other positions at underage level .....normally though recruiters are already identifying a particular role at AFL level, thru the Draft Process
I'd say Laird was drafted as a MID ....his first season at West Adelaide, he played as a Mid & was just a naturalTrue - though I'd say people got Dawson, Day, Laird and a bunch of others wrong. There's a lot you don't know at 18.
I'd say Laird was drafted as a MID ....his first season at West Adelaide, he played as a Mid & was just a natural
His AFL role was a case of where can we fit him in, with a strong midfield .....that's not an unusual occurrence
I agree re Dawson & Day ....were probably seen as Flankers, due to their body shape
Pretty sure that's what I said ....which are a strong component of a midfielder“He used to get the ball a fair bit. His role changed somewhat over the course of the carnival – I’m pretty sure he played as an onballer in one of the games – but he had a natural feel of how to find the footy.”
To be fair, you said "I'd say Laird was drafted as a MID ...." when he played 3 of four games and his whole u/18 season as a small defender.Pretty sure that's what I said ....which are a strong component of a midfielder
fair enoughLaird played as a midfielder while he was at school (Scotch) where funnily enough Nicks was his coach
Geez at that stage I wonder then if its just worth us waiting 12 more months then to give up two 1sts, because thats what Melbourne will want. It's an interesting one - we'll need to offer them more than what they'll get as a free agent if we want him next year. If it's close, they're not going to release him.
Thats a Fun Fact.Laird played as a midfielder while he was at school (Scotch) where funnily enough Nicks was his coach
GROTTO likes fun facts.Thats a Fun Fact.
Every year people say there won’t be A grade talent available at our pick, however our current midfield was taken as follows.I keep hearing Wilson being projected by recruiters as a flanker at AFL level (The Age) .....so is there any MID likely to be available at #10 that's going to make a significant difference ....doubtful

Yes ...you're correct of course !Every year people say there won’t be A grade talent available at our pick, however our current midfield was taken as follows.
Dawson, pick 56
Laird, rookie
Soligo, pick 36
Rory Sloane, pick 44
Matt Crouch, pick 23
While Chayce Jones, Rachelle and Gallucci were taken 1st round as midfielders.
History shows there absolutely will be genuine A grade midfield talent available to us this year at our picks, we just have to be better at talent identification.
