Could this be the most underwhelming trade period for a while? Not really any big names on the move this year.

When Jack Billings, Zac Fischer and Paddy Dow are listed in the '10 biggest deals to watch' you know it's going to be a fizzer.

Im not so sure. Could be a surprise thrown up. Its happened before. contracted players have been put up for trade as part of exploring deals for draft picks and to get 3 way trades across the line. Who knows, a club could approach us seeking our top 10 pick. I wouldn't rule anything out just yet.

Is it worth looking at Billings?

He's been rubbish for a couple of years but there's talent there - though there has to be a reason Lyon didn't play him.

Thought about this as well, didnt he break his leg in 2021 or 2022 then had trouble getting it right, left footer, has talent just needs to get fit. St Kilda seem keen to move him on as well

Nothing screams that this has been a whiff of a trade period more than "Jack Billings is open to offers" being the 7th on the 10 biggest deals this year piece on AFL.com.

Doedee paperwork apparently just lodged, interesting rumour on that page that hold up with McKay contract compo is because Ess want a pick to bump up his salary to Band 1

Is it worth going after Hunter Clark?

Not really anything to get excited about for any club, very dull trade period, just no big names on the move.

Swans bringing in Adams, Hamlin and Grundy is definitely worth getting excited about for them. Not big big acquisitions, but that should put them in good stead to push in '24 - especially as Grundy is still a top ruckman.

I like Brisbanes move to bring in Doedee. Not a game changer, but a solid two-way defender in a side that has been held back a tad by their defense.

Saints seem to be in place to get some interesting pieces in Dow and Henry, both young too.

Beyond that though? Yeah this year has been a fizzler. North and Port get to accrue more junk players. Essendon look likely to pick up two very Essendon players in Duursma and McKay. Brisbane improved at the fringes with Doedee. Such a nothing period for most clubs.

Isnt that exactly what the Crows tried to do with Brouch and the AFL said No, FFS.

Burgess Trade will involve a pick swaps. I am kind of hoping Burges is the 'steak knives' of the deal, rather than the headline of the deal.

Gold Coast list manager was on trade radio, said Bulldogs likely to get pick 4 but waiting on some clubs to give best offer.

When asked about Burgess, he said they are in discussion with Adelaide about pick swaps and it will be part of that.

Based on that you’d think we are a major player for pick 10. Perhaps Doedess and of first round and Norths pick or ideally Norths, Gold Coasts and McAdam compo leaving us 9,10 & end of first round. That would be huge.

He knows as much as you and I…

Although I know that Phillipou is a 100% “committed” port powah fan..

And his old man is an ex port adelaide magpies player..

He played more games for Woodville-West Torrens (106) and won a flag with them.

It would - surely though we then try and move one of them into next year for a F1...but I am jumping the gun, lets get what we can get first then think ahead

I think you take both this year, and let next year sort itself out.

This might be a shit draft for Adelaides needs, but we've only got another 4-5 years of peak Dawson, and need to accrue talented lads now. It's probably the last draft where we could feasibly expect kids to start hitting A-grade performance in that window.
