Didn't think we were as bad as the scoreboard suggested. We were up to our eyeballs in the first half but failed to capitalise on the opportunities we were generating.

I thought everyone had a crack. The usual suspects (Stephens, Sheldrick etc.) did well, though I'd have liked more impact from their disposals. Konstanty showed his talent in glimpses, Mitchell had some really classy touches, and Rankin's hands and awareness in tight were elite.

Ihave a question who is coaching the reserves? I only check in on our ressies now and again, but have to admit that it is pretty depressing! We have not won 1 game! Does that mean we have a reservs team of complete duds. No we have a problem with the coaching staff! Everyone on this board is concerned about how the Seniors are going etc, but there is a massive problem regarding our reserves!!!

The issue is related to the injuries and the availability of AFL listed players for the VFL side. We are playing twice as many top-ups as we did last year and yet people had issues with the coaching of the reserves under Laidler who coached them to the finals last season.

It is hard for any side when there is no experience to help and next to no options in the forward line.

Why swap coaches with GWS ?

Carlton had 3 or 4 more listed players most of whom have been around for several seasons. Two of their top ups in both Ronke and Parks are experienced former AFL players. None of the toppies we played yesterday have been on an AFL list. It is a pity we were unable to keep Taylor and/or Sinkers in a captain coaching role.

Only Francis and Gus appear to offer much on ground leadership

I couldn't watch the game on Friday but had a look at the stats. Most of our listed players at least touched the ball more than other games.

On a side note I see rustycrate s nephew got a bit of the ball which is nice.

Dylan Stephens only swan to get coaches votes

Good

Hopefully we get a 2nd rounder instead of a 3rd when we put him up for trade
I'm thinking that would be being optimistic. Aside from a small run of solid if unremarkable games, and the odd one here and there, Stephens is basically an unproven player at the highest level who I'm not even sure the club will be that desperate to keep.

He's basically on par with Nic Newman at the time we traded him. Both four years in the system, both around the 30-50 game mark (Newman at 31 by the time he left; Stephens currently on 38), both were prolific at the lower level but couldn't always convert it to the highest level. Newman was traded for a fourth round pick. Stephens being a former first-round pick as opposed to a rookie like Newman maybe bumps him up to a third round pick.

I still hope he works out as I'm more sold on him than you are, but even I am starting to get concerned. If you're good enough it just shouldn't be as difficult to show it as it has been for Stephens thus far.

Truslove has been copping a bit, but last reserves game Carlton had around ~650 games of senior experience, we had less than 50.
Hard to have a gameplan/structure when you have so little continuity/experience.
The two new draftees, McAndrew & Amartey (assuming he plays after his cameo tonight) should help.

My strongest criticism of Laidler was they he just kept doing the same thing over and over (eg Sinclair #1 ruck, instead of McAndrew).
At least Truslove has tried a few things (eg Magor to the HBF so he could get a bit of ball, instead of freezing his ass off in our fwd line).
I wouldn't mind lining up in the sort of formation listed above.
I hope Vickery will be on the wing, where I thought he had his best game of the season and no problem with Magor moving fwd again now that we have a few more targets around him rather than poor old HKK at 188cm being our main KPF.
Mitchell & Corey Warner are two watches for me as well. I think both have shown promise and hopefully that will continue.
Konstanty should now have enough games under his belt that he starts to show why he was a first round pick.

After the crapfest of tonight looking fwd to this game.

Is Tom Longmire any good?

Might just be me but I'm getting a strong vibe the Swans have become insular, comfortable and a little too pleased with themselves

Maybe even bathwater drinkers

Tom has shown nothing to indicate he could be more than a below average top up VFL Player.
