I know. Next years PPs for 10. We go to draft with 2, 3, 11, 15, 21.
We need four very high picks IMO to really accelerate our rebuild. Trading up/down and ending up with less top 20 picks (even if on paper they may be slightly higher quality) is a mistake.

Keep 2 & 3, and work the rest into 2-3 top 20 picks.

Ha so the panic merchants have swung from getting an end of first compo pick to swapping picks 2 & 3 for pick 1.

Will not happen - stop it!

After a brief chat today we are definitely taking the son of Kercher, that can be locked in. Probably means no Watto Wizard Watson. With the amount the Wizard Watto Watson was jammed down our throats on this board I did afford myself wry smile.

So suppose it will be the Reid/McKercher double act.
Aren’t we nervous giving up two, under the assumption in your scenario that’s how we get 1/Reid we could miss the Son of Kercher? He is just what the eagles need.

Two out of three ain’t bad: Kangaroos draft bonanza after Ben McKay compensation finalised

By Peter Ryan, Michael Gleeson and Marc McGowan

Having secured pick three as compensation for losing free agent Ben McKay to Essendon, North Melbourne have ruled out any prospect they would be prepared to hand over both picks two and three to West Coast to land the prized No.1 pick in this year’s national draft.

While the Kangaroos - who now hold picks 2, 3, 15 and 21 as well as a first round selection and two end of first round picks in the 2024 national draft - are still open to trying to secure the No.1 pick in this year’s draft they will not be giving away both picks 2 and 3 in an attempt to satisfy the Eagles according to an industry source familiar with the discussions who was not authorised to speak publicly.

It means the Kangaroos will, at least, take two of the top three picks into this year’s national draft.

Harley Reid is the player most club recruiters rate as the No.1 selection, but there are a range of players including Daniel Curtin, Zane Duursma, Colby McKercher, Nick Watson and Ryley Sanders who still appeal to all clubs as quality players in the top 10 selections.

The Kangaroos selected Harry Sheezel and George Wardlaw with picks three and four in last year’s national draft after making a bid on the Lions’ father-son Will Ashcroft at pick No.2. Sheezel won the Kangaroos’ best and fairest award and AFL Rising Star award in his first season.

McKay accepted a six-year deal to join Essendon where he will play under his first AFL coach Brad Scott. McKay played in just eight wins in the 71 matches he played in eight seasons at North Melbourne since being pick No.21 in the 2015 national draft.

Meanwhile, Melbourne are closing in on securing a second top draft pick to potentially make a plunge for one of the most sought after players at the top of the draft.

Melbourne have tempted Gold Coast with pick 14 and second round draft picks in exchange for pick 11. Two industry sources said Melbourne were eager to get pick 11 to bracket with their existing first pick now at six (tied to Fremantle’s finish) to make a play for one of top few draft picks.

Other clubs including Adelaide were still hopeful they could winkle pick 11 from the Suns while North, who have picks 15 and 21 are also interested.

Brodie Grundy’s wish to become a Swan has hit a snag, with his current club Melbourne rejecting Sydney’s first offer for the star ruckman.

Two industry sources told this masthead the Demons believed the offer of picks 46 and 54 was far too modest for someone of Grundy’s stature, and shut it down emphatically.

I imagine that would be part of the chat we have with the Eagle. They'll take Curtin and he'll be bloody good footballer for them

Mate, you only have #1 and drifting #22 we have #2,#3,#15 & #20 plus points have nothing to do with it because we aren't bidding on player..it's pick swaps?
Who are you going to deal with that gets you a). top 5 pick and b). another 1 rounder? Melb? Haw if they package Brockman & Grainger-Barras plus #4...whose getting bent over?
We won't sell the farm but you're best hope is us if your club wants Curtin and another 1st rounder or simply 1x top 5 and 1x 1st rounder? If it becomes too hard then i think we're quite happy to take 2x top 5, 1x 1st rounder and 1x end of 1st picks.
Have fun mate.
Eagles either draft Reid or we get the farm from north, there really is no bad scenario for us

Lose to Gold Coast: Reid is a magnificent prospect, one of the best ever
Beat Gold Coast: Reid can't run, the gap between him and others is negligible, didn't dominate
I've been saying for months that Reid is my number 1 pick but the gap isn't that huge.

When we had pick 1 for a week I was saying that it wasn't a huge loss for WC if they ended up with McKercher, instead.

Reid it is then.
Now…

If Melb want to move pick 6 up for a top 3 then we are their only option.

I wonder if we go...

3 to Dees
2 & 11 to WC
1 & 6 to NM

Draft Reid and Sanders

I rate Sanders above Duursma/Watson/Curtin and Reid above McKercher. So a decent upgrade, overall.

This would throw a spanner in the works:

With our favourite trading partner

North give: Pick 3, 2024 PP (Pick 20), and a guarantee we don't take Curtin at 2.
North get: Sean Darcy, Hayden Young

Put the ball back in West Coasts court. If they want to demand 2 and 3 for pick 1, then do the next best thing, and give their biggest rival a chance.

Nothing would be funnier than Curtin playing 250 games for Fremantle and West Coast missing out on him due to being stubborn.

Would Eagles do this for Reid?

In: 1, Darling
Out: F1, PP, PP
I don’t think anyone wants that trade, darling is a required player and north will want an early first next year also pick 1 on its own we’d value more than what you’ve offered

Freo wouldn’t do that deal, I don’t think clubs draft to spite others aha anyway in this scenario we get Reid right? That’s a huge win

Nick Watson's highlights in the talent league GF...he should have kicked at least 3.

I haven't seen much coverage of him play, but he should have passed the ball a lot more than he did, a lot of low probability shots on goal when guys were in a better position, which isn't what you want to see even if he is capable of kicking them, it isn't the team thing to do. No doubt he has tricks, but that package gives me some concerns.

I honestly value team oriented play much much higher than figjaming. GWS bombed out of the PF because everyone decided to be a low probability hero when they got to the PF by doing team oriented things.

Well that's not in the script and who the * is Cal Twomey, and who cares about his draft order. He's already started on the " generational " talent available at pick 1 in 2024.
There’s another generational talent next year? **** me, that’s like 3 already in one generation. 🙄
