This is my personal list;

Trade targets;

Dylan Stephens (wing) ✅

Zac Fischer (mid)

Adam Tomlinson (KPD)

Charlie Spargo (pressure fwd)

Dougal Howard (KPD)

Buku Khamis (fwd)

Hunter Clark (mid)

Bigoa Nyuon (ruck)

Have we really been linked to Ginnivan and Koschintzke?
I'd love North to look at Koschitske as a KPP.
If you look at his draft profile and his highlights video's he could be a solid key defensive player.

In regard to trading in a ruckman to help support Xerri and Rawlings
What's incredible about Brisbane as that arguably three of their top 5 players have been recruited A graders from other teams - Neale, Cameron and finally Dunkley. Top level recruiting there.
plus Daniher, McCarthy, McKenna, Ah Chee.

They recruit very well

A highly underrated coaching move was replacing Rich with Coleman as their primary distributor from the backline.

Coleman’s left foot is as deadly as Rich’s but the major difference is he’s electric quick through traffic.

The move was genius from Fagan and changed the Lions whole sling shot attack but at the same time it’s stamped Rich’s retirement papers.

We should be looking at doing that with McKercher replacing McDonald. Would instantly make us one of the most dynamic running team’s in the league with Sheezel, Goater, Bergman and McKercher as our running backs.

That’s why a combo of McKercher (HBF) Reid (CHF) and Watson (FP) teaming up with our fit 2022 draft crop would make us as dynamic as Brisbane and Collingwood overnight.

Look how many are left from when he first took over

We need a bigger broom.

It’s taken seven years, and the article makes the point that they did it piece by piece. None of their moves involved trading out big names for draft capital, either.

ROOS LOOM FOR LATE PICK CHASE

NORTH Melbourne shapes as a possible late contender for Gold Coast's prized pick No.4 if the Roos are granted an early selection as part of their assistance package from the AFL.

The Roos currently hold picks No.2 and 14 (tied to Port Adelaide) but are also expected to gain pick No.3 for Ben McKay's free agency compensation.

Clubs believe they could also be awarded a mid-first round pick – at No.11 – as part of an assistance package from the AFL, with a potential other pick next year at the end of the first round as part of an extended, staggered handout.

A decision will come next week from the AFL Commission, with some of the Gold Coast's model of their 2019 assistance package potentially in play.

The Roos' delegation last week met with the League to put forward their case for AFL assistance after winning 12 of their past 84 games. Any priority access for Ryley Sanders is now considered unlikely.

If awarded the pick in the middle of the first round, the Roos will then become a late contender for the Suns' pick if they packaged pick No.11 and Port Adelaide's first-round pick together to move up the board and give the Suns extra points to match for their trio of gun Academy players.

The Western Bulldogs are currently in a strong position to land the pick given they hold picks No.10 and Brisbane's first-rounder, with Melbourne and Adelaide also vying for the pick.

The second layer that is important for whoever gets the selection is the appeal for the Suns to then keep on trading back down the draft while accruing points.

It means that, for instance, if the Dogs traded for it, the Suns would then likely put the Dogs' pick No.10 up for trade as well to see if they can push back but maintain a strong hand of picks. – Callum Twomey

At the time they started, apart from Daniel Rich did they have too many big names to offer the market?

No particular need to quibble apart that, because the point you affirm about piece by piece is worth making - another angle on it is that they used a range of mechanisms, good drafting (Harris Andrews with a late pick), top end draft talent (McLuggage and Rayner) and bold trading in which they were prepared to use draft capital to get they players they wanted.

Clarko also has a record of trading out first rounders, and I expect once the core group from the draft is completed (ie, this year), we'll see draft picks used to recruit established players according to need

DOW SET TO BE ON THE MOVE

Paddy Dow seems destined to find his way to St Kilda as the Blues’ late-season charge gives them trade collateral to get back into the national draft for the second straight year.

Carlton expects Dow to find his way to St Kilda and Zac Fisher to play at Arden Street next year, with both players out of the side but having benefited from recent surges in form.

The Blues have given away their second and third-round picks, having secured Ollie Hollands, Lachie Cowan, VFL Team of the Year member Jaxon Binns and Harry Lemmey in the draft last year as well as summer rookie Alex Cincotta.

Carlton will expect reasonable compensation from the Roos for Fisher given he has two years to run and could secure a five-year deal.

So the Blues could top up their draft hand, then give a future pick to Gold Coast if the Elijah Hollands deal goes through.

The Blues have been keen to hit the draft hard all year but didn’t have much to give up and yet Dow has climbed off the footy scrapheap and Fisher has found form at half back.
Would much rather we go for Dow or Hollands from GC than Fisher.

or re-phrased: North expect to do well out of a Carlton salary dump

I daresay we're waiting to see what happens with the Richmond job too, might be hard for McQualter to go back if he misses.

Surely Clarkson has picked up the phone to Trent Cotchin too.
Pendles made some comments about wanting to work under Clarko one day too. A coaching panel with Cotch and Pendles would be amazing.

If pick 11PP happens + 15 for 5 and we don't bid on Walter at 2 or 3, much better deal for GC and the AFL's baby can get better value then the supposed front runners Dogs picks 10+17

I think we’d have to bid on Walter (perhaps at 3) but could wink on not bidding the other kid at all.

We’re pretty good with this stuff, we did a side deal with Brisbane last year and still bid on Ashcroft.

The issue with that approach is talented 14-15 year old kids in the northern states usually have a choice, and most other sports can guarantee they stay at home.

There are plenty of players who have been developed through the Northern academies who have been passed up by their home clubs and ended up being good AFL players elsewhere.

I get the cynicism but I think people forget that we directly benefit from the game being stronger in NSW and QLD.
Do you mean stay at home to play professionally? Or stay at home in an academy?

Non academy clubs get the inferior talent, if any.

Look at Sydney FFS. Heeney, Campbell, Mills, Gulden, Blakey (LOL).

We’ve sure derived a significant benefit from that.
