I heard something on SEN today along the lines of they pay BMac 500 x 5 but with triggers…….triggers cant be included in compo. Would not surprise to see Hawks outsmart us.

He isn't going to hawks on 500/yr that's way under what he is looking for... and this is purely about his big payday

If that was true all North would have to do would be to match it with the same triggers..

Don’t get me started with the academies that are attached to the northern clubs.

In typical AFL fashion, instead of fixing that problem, they half arse the NGA situation and then * that up.

The solution is simple.

They need to be run as an AIS type set up in each state. Centralised, coached, trained all through the AFL. Each and every player available to all clubs.

That would truly ‘grow the game’. But that’s not what it’s about. They’re about generating a continuous pipeline of players exclusively available to those clubs, in order to keep them at the pointy end of the ladder.

The GC one is failing miserably for various reasons.
The issue with that approach is talented 14-15 year old kids in the northern states usually have a choice, and most other sports can guarantee they stay at home.

There are plenty of players who have been developed through the Northern academies who have been passed up by their home clubs and ended up being good AFL players elsewhere.

I get the cynicism but I think people forget that we directly benefit from the game being stronger in NSW and QLD.

It's irrelevant whether we or any other clubs benefit in some way. What's more important is that in a competition apparently chasing equity clubs in some states benefit more than others. It does us no good to get a scrap every now and again whilst GC are getting multiple first round picks even if they finish first...

Exactly, especially with 2 other guaranteed offers on the table.

He’s not taking a performance based contract as the biggest free agent of the year.

He could do his knee or break his leg, fracture his skull and never play again and lose close to a $1.5m of guaranteed money contained in triggers entirely designed to prevent North getting Band 1?

Yeah, nah.

Wouldn't put it past hawthorn to manipulate the deal in that way to cost us band 1...

But Ben... nah, I don't think he's that type of character.

They mentioned the triggers would take it up super high. I only caught it quickly on radio so unsure of the machinations. Sounded clever from Hawks though.
I think a few of us are looking for reasons to be worried tbh.

To be fair, was it not “Beryl and her 90 year old bowls team” that kicked Essendon out of Windy Hill?
Possibly…she’s and her team are more agile than that daft lot from windy hill 😂👏

We don't have to match triggers, we only have the match the base salary (including match payments) and years. If the Hawks want to try and be smart then we would just match it.

This Tackle Show is pushing for Boak to North for a couple of years, to teach TT and the kids what it takes to be a professional footballer.

I'm a Boak fan, he was one of the few having a go on Saturday night. I wouldn't be offering 2 years though. Maybe 1 with triggers. He could be our next Shiels.

We've also been linked to Lycett. Maybe they can come along together.

I love Biak but isn’t Shiel already doing that role?

Where’s that list of players that have been linked to us?

Dylan Stephens
Zac Fisher
Buku Khamis
Jacob Koschitzke
Nick Haynes
Hunter Clark
Jack Ginnivan

Who could we target and make an irresistible offer to and attempt to shake out? Will potentially be armed with 2,3 11 & 14. We are paying our 40 odd players on our list way over market value already, in order to pay 95% TPP.

Ollie Lord? OOC next year and a Vic boy? Offer him a 7 year deal just to piss off Corn .

Ugle-Hagan? OOC next year. Dogs have Naughton, Lobb, and Darcy, Croft coming through? Sick of Bevo’s teeth.

Naughton? As above

Aaron Cadman? OOC 2024. Delayed contract talks already. Footy goods returning our original pick 1 from last year?

Liam Ryan. Only 26. Apparently exploring a move to Vic. OOC 2024. Being linked to the Hawks. I’ve forgotten what a crumbing forward looks like?

Changkuoth Jiath. OOC 2024. Credits Clarkson as the biggest influence in his career. Has stagnated the last couple of years. Fresh start?

Liam Henry. Already requested trade? Why would St Kilda appeal? Could use the speed? Why St Kilda again?

Bailey Smith. Fresh start? Sick of Bevo’s white teeth and confiscating his nose beers.
