Worpel won a bnf wasn’t AA though. Wingard was AA second season from memory. I’m sure there’s probably more
yeah i was looking exclusively at pick 1s before

i mean daicos isn't the savior and he still has some deficiencies as even the very best do. he's also still a top 5 player in the comp in his second year. the amount of impact he has on games is disproportionate to what you could expect, or what we've seen of any other pick one.

honestly it feels like pick #1s have been underperforming for ~15 years now.

Watts, Scully, Swallow, Patton, Whitfield, Boyd, McCartin, Weitering, McGrath, Rayner, Walsh, Rowell. some really handy players in there but i don't think you'd call any of them generational except possibly Weitering and maybe eventually Rowell. JHF and JUH might be that level but certainly not in their first couple of years

and even if ur pick one was as good as daicos u could still make the argument having 4 good (but not as good) players would have a greater impact on winning a game

All of this and Daicos wasn't pick 1

I'm still not sure how the claim can be made that Daicos is the 'most impactful player in the history of the game', because how do you measure it?

Still had a remarkable first two seasons though.
I could say that in my life time very few if any would have had as big an impact as him at his age. He is a freak. He will get a lot more attention in finals as soon as the prelim i would imagine

Its his consistency week after week. I do not think anyone measures up

All of this and Daicos wasn't pick 1
But he was considered the best player in his draft class (along with JHF).

The difference is that most number-one picks go to teams that struggle with player development. A player's destiny isn't inherent to their talent or upside, and clubs that fail to nurture top draft picks often find themselves with multiple. I have faith that our administration can get the best out of the players it drafts, and the best out of Reid is a generational player.

Who gives a crap about N Daicos. Not in the same as stratosphere as Gary Ablett Snr. Quality all round player N Daicos but wouldn’t pay to watch him play like I would have if Cyril or Buddy were playing. I thought Judd was the most impactful player in his 1st season in recent time.
I am not sure u r understanding the premise here anyways carry on

Let’s not get too carried away, sheezel by the numbers had a better first year than daicos. Buddys third year is probably the greatest year ever produced by a young forward, especially when you consider how times have changed, now that’s impactful. I doubt daicos’ third year gets anywhere close to buddy’s. No doubt he’s a gun but let’s hold off on the greatest player ever talk. Personally the bont was the clear best player in the league this year. Daicos’ year isn’t on the same level as the early Judd years, buddy, ablett or Martin. Still has a long way to go before he can be mentioned in the same breath.

The numbers maybe, some at least. Watching both it wasn’t even close. His first two years far surpass the early years of any of those 3 and on the same level as Bont. Daicos also absolutely was on the same level as Bont prior to his injury this year. Was a toss up between the two who was better.

Anyway it is all largely missing the original point that was being made. Finding a Daicos is extremely extremely rare and trading for any draft pick with the hope they will be ‘our Daicos’ is very risky.

Daicos hasn’t murdered anyone though, so he’s got that going for him.

Trade period scenario 1
So I believe the likely cost of pick 1 is 3,f1,29 with 1,54 coming back. We then do brockman for 38 although my feeling is this is a little high but we may get away with it or do some late swaps. End up with 1,38,48,54 and take Reid, McCabe with 38/48 and 54 hopefully for TJ. Hope to add McKay and Gresham as FA.

Scenario 2
Trade 29 and f1 for suns 4 and 56. Brockman for 38.
End up with 3,4,38,48,56 so it is 2 top 5 players instead of Reid the rest including FA the same.

Assuming you don’t work for fox footy, rate each trade period?
door number two thanks Mr FB19.

A little left of field….but if we are after a 2yr stop gap solution at CHB and don’t manage to secure McKay……could we offer a 5yr deal (2years playing and 3yrs coaching) to Alex Rance?

looks to have stayed in shape and would be 34 in season 2024 and 35 in season 2025

An option that isn’t going to cost draft capital…..could it work though? Would allow McCabe time to develop his body

Mitchell’s Henry coup only the start

Sam Mitchell has emerged as Hawthorn’s secret weapon as a recruiting tool in coming seasons as Liam Henry moves towards nominating the Hawks as his club of choice.
Player managers report Mitchell has put together a brilliant pitch to their players as the Hawks hope their recent improvements put them in the picture for a number of big names.
Geelong’s Esava Ratugolea chose Port Adelaide and North Melbourne’s Ben McKay might ultimately look elsewhere.
But Henry is expected to choose Hawthorn over St Kilda, with the Dockers wingman one of a number of players highly impressed by Mitchell.
His overall vision for the club, his specific intel on how he would coach them and his professionalism in selling the future have all been noted.
As a first-year coach, some rivals scoffed when Mitchell contacted opposition coaches himself as the Hawks tried to make moves to get up the draft board.
Yet, if you can’t get players to your club – even when you are rebuilding – it doesn’t matter how talented you are with the tactical and leadership side of coaching.
