Dogs would demand two first round picks (including a top 5 pick). He is out of contract though next year so our bargaining power will be reduced which could give you an advantage. We played hardball with Dunkley last year but ultimately folded as they didn't want to lose him for nothing in the PSD.
Dunkley was never going to the psd

We need another KPD but I would say our forward line needs more work than our defence.

We still need a key forward and probably 2 or 3 medium/small forwards
Key forwards, we have Lewis, Kosi, who I still believe can be a solid contributor, and I notice Sticks was named CHF in the VFL team of the year. He's going to be good. Rammer should eventually be a ruck/key forward, Hale-style.

Key backs, we have .... Blanck. Who's played a grand total of 24 games. That's it.

Sicily is our best player, but is NOT a key position defender.

Scrim, Weddle are NOT key position players.

We desperately need another big body back there.

It is unquestionably our weakest area.

Wouldn’t say unquestionable - our forward structure leaves a lot to be desired. Our defence needs a good KPP to release Sicily and it’ll improve a fair bit. Our forward line needs a fair bit more than that.

So much for all those posts saying he’d make sure we’d be duly compensated. Willing to go PSD…

Do people really expect a player to say ‘hey club that’s offering me a multi-year big money deal just go easy on Hawthorn hey!’. He can walk for free in the PSD - West Coast hold all the aces and they know it.

Both ends of the ground we're a little thin, but finding a reliable backman is simply easier than finding reliable goal-kickers, not to mention less expensive.

I think it's time to go all-in given GC have their Pick 4 on the table. Who knows the next time a pick that high will be so readily available like this. Our F1 is surely going to be the most tempting asset anyone can offer. Sticking point might be both of us wanting later picks this year for points, but that can be sorted out with other teams.

Maybe if we do end up landing McKay it will give us the confidence to pull the trigger on it.

Picks 3, 4 and McCabe - let's get them in and getting to work this year with the young group we already have.

Send him to the PSD. I couldn't care less.
Chances of Hawthorn doing that to a young First Nations player with kids and who has requested a trade home in the current climate: absolutely nil. As seemed inevitable from the moment he wouldn’t sign a new deal, unless he chose the Dockers, we will have to accept whatever garbage West Coast offers. It sucks but is what it is

No better way to endear yourself to your new employee than to make them cough of up more than they have to.

Its all good, just a misunderstanding.
We have another good prospect in 200cm Jordan Croft who we will pick up as a F/S this draft. The problem we have is that Bevo plays people out of position (Dunkley was used in the ruck - hence why he wanted out, Smith being played on a wing when he is a genuine outside mid (to name but a few). He also has his favourites like Macrae who never get close to being dropped no matter how poor they are while the likes of Rhylee West who would run through a brick wall for the club have one quiet game and they are out.
I am sure that if we could get say an Adem Yze type in as coach we could again be a top 4 side, the longer that Bevo stays, the less chance there is of that happening and our window will close.
On the other hand I love the way Mitchell goes about it, he has the respect of the players, you can see what he is building and the players are all buying in to his gameplan.
Yes so you have Croft and JUH up forward with Darcy and Naughton down back and at least 2 and maybe all can switch between the 2. And they are all 23 and under. it’s an amazingly odd position for a side that should be contending to be in. If I were the dogs I would be trading out of this draft into 2024 which is mid heavy and angling for crows first pick as they have Tyler welsh who will go top 5. Your natural picks and some f2 will box seat you to trade up and replace treloar and libba when all your young talls have 30-40
More games in them.

Ideal F/A and trade period:

GCS- Hollands - 33

Hawks: Future 1st and 38
Dogs: Smith

Draft hand- 3, 29, 48

In: Mackay, Hollands, Smith, 38, future 3rd (WCE)
Out: Brockman, DGB, future 3rd, Future 1st

Why are you all melting down? A few things to consider:
First it’s what some of us have said all along would happen as we have no leverage. We tried our best to keep him and we hope he and the eagles deal with us in good faith anyway but especially given that. But ultimately it’s a hope.
Second the comment says he is prepared to go via the pre-season draft not that he wants to. Given he wants to go to the eagles I am sure he is “prepared” to get there via pick 1! it is not his concern nor should it be.
Last a third round pick is naturally between 37-54 so could be pick 38 that the eagles hold which is about fair value. I believe this will be the outcome and it will down dons early on.

that's not bad tbh but Dogs won't accept it and we can just wait until next year to get Smith while keeping a F1.
DGB for Hollands is a pretty fair swap.
