I too in the camp that landing McKay is a coup! (i) He is a quality player. (ii) It shows that Hawthorn is a credible destination for free agents which creates a nice feedback loop.
I am not sure why many are questioning his capability as a player. His stats are strong - his intercept marks per game are just about the best in the AFL. Alongside Sicily we would have 2 of the top 8 intercept marks in the game.

On the contrary if we manage the below:

1. Get McKay on board
2. Get Maibor on board along with pick 4/5
3. Convince Gresham to come to cover Brockman
4. Have 2 X R1 picks this year

We do the above and manage to keep Lewis on the park and Sicily unsuspended then we are for sure getting into the top 8 next year.

The disrespect Frawley still cops here is insane. A 10cm taller Frawley is basically a complement.

It shows the clear lack of understanding.
Frawley was no world beater with the football. What he was was an athlete, Fast, strong explosive. He was brought over for one reason and that was to contain the oppositions best. He did that. We had enough playmakers in our back half to cover his limitations.

Mckay is essentially free, we will be frontloading the crap out of his contract given the space we have next year so its a free hit IMO

We got the best big bodied backman we could this year, which is exactly what we wanted. Obviously we all wish we had a Sam Taylor

In all seriousness, would be good news to land McKay.

If GWS has shown us anything this finals series it's that you don't necessarily need the most talented squad, but a very even squad with a great game plan.

Structurally, we don't need the greatest fullback, but we need a good one, and it's clearly a hole in our cv. McKay adds that, and with a quality game plan, and a couple of a-grade elites around him (ie Sicily), he should slot right in.

Not counting chickens yet, but I'm excited if it happens. Hope we can also fill the other critical need and that's forward line.
