Mitchell is an excellent judge of talent (see: Newc plucked out of Box Hill, Nash moving into the midfield). If he thinks Reid is worth it, he may well be right.

It will come down to who the club see as most expendable. I don't like it but I don't like us being irrelevant in the grand scheme of things either. Reid will put bums on seats and will make us a better side. We don't want to have too much of the same sort of player. Footy is a business unfortunately so if a decision is made that involves the players mentioned I'm prepared to accept it.
Who do you think is most expendable?
I feel based on exposure it is Cam M, but I think long term it will be Connor- simply because Reid will fill his role.

So would Bailey Smith (this or next year) and Nic Watson.

If we get Harley Reid we lose the opportunity to acquire them both.

Those two are also plausible while still retaining all of Mackenzie, Ward and MacDonald.

McDonald I'm hearing. Like him but rekon he's expendable. The fans will riot if it's Day or Newcombe. We want Reid to join them so we have 3 young stars to build a premiership side around. Hate to say it but if it's Ward I wouldn't be that fussed TBH. Nice player but what's his ceiling?. If he's being discussed as potentially part of the deal there's a reason for it. The club don't think he will move the dial that much. Be prepared is all I'll say.

Ward will be a star - put on size end of year and will be most improved player on our list next year in my opinion - KEEP!

We can have a whole bunch of nice players and not really go anywhere. What some of you need to understand is Reid is head and shoulders the consensus number 1 pick. And that's with some great young talent up for grabs around him. Think the club are good enough judges of the sort of player he can be otherwise we're not even entering the conversation. Could all come to nothing and ATM it's still the likely outcome so we all need to just relax.

Maybe. Could have a great season like Ashcroft and do a knee. May never be the same player again. That’s a huge price and risk. A couple of those young kids have 2-3 pre seasons behind them now and could see them explode this year.

Been busy for a couple hours just caught up ……. some of the names thrown up on top of the picks proposed is fckn insane. For what to move up a couple of spots!!!!!!! Had to rub my eyes and check the thread title a few times thinking I was accidentally diverted to bay 13!

If our first this year and the next isn’t near close MM should not waste anymore oxygen.
Me too, been out.

Thinking of not checking here anymore until it's all done... fat chance of that unfortunately, I have no willpower where my Hawks are concerned.

For those that have actually watched a lot of Reid (Davo-27 perhaps?) - where do you see him at come round 1 next year? Could he hit the ground running and just storm into senior footy like Daicos? Or will he be a slower burn like say a Petracca?
It depends on where we line him up. I think he plays his best footy in the Sicily role, but it would be a big ask to get him to defend AFL forwards day one and we don't have ny shortage of half-backs. If I had to guess, he would come in to the Bruest role in round one and start deep, building up his fitness and confidence taking a medium defender and playing from a deep base rather than asking him to put the gut running efforts of Moore, CMac, and some some of our other HHFs. The best comparison for a first season will be somewhere on the JHF Y1 to Y2 spectrum, at worst I think he's a low teens disposals and a couple of shots on goal a game and at his best he'll win us games off his own backs with some special efforts and walk away with the 10 votes. Reid could walk into a team and bring one or two efforts of unstoppable production, his development will be around building fitness and consistency to make sure he's getting those opportunities as often as possible. Eventually that probably means moving him into the midfield, but early on getting him into the forward structure and learning how to play off the big guys and when to play one-out will be key. He's still probably the favourite for the RS, but I could see Colby, Curtin, or Sanders winning it if they get a good role in a rubbish team. Tracc's development might be a good comp, but Harley has shown he can run out games better than Tracc as a junior.

No matter what happens this offseason, we'll get a gun and go forth into a bright future. I know it might hurt, but come November 21 the players on our list will have all the promise and talent to take us to a flag.

Who guaranteed you pick 3? Dodoro may tell you that he’ll guarantee you a first round compo only if you trade 2 to us for 8 and 13 assuming we buy it in the Gresham deal. I’m more than happy for us to trade 13 for McKay if North match otherwise.

Then we trade 2 + F1 to West Coast for pick 1 + F2.

Essendon win the Reid race.
saw this on the Pick 1 thread from a Essendon Fan responding to North fan, explains the delay in McKay free agency delay

The price for Reid is 2 Top 5 picks, not the bounty Hawks fans are entertaining(may well have legs but is massive overs). If we are giving a player up, no need to give up our F1.

If F1 has to be added then one of their players and pick 20 needs to come back as well. Jai Culley or Ryan Maric would do. ( no F1 involved, we keep it for Smith or King)

I have faith in the club.
It is for that reason that I don't believe they would be stupid enough to offer up what Eagles are reportedly asking for.

It's one thing for the club with the pick to ask.

It's something entirely different for another club to accommodate what's being asked for.

If what's being reported as being asked for is to be believed, then I am confident that our club doesn't have the level of stupidity to accommodate.

West Coast like the look of our Frenchie. CMAC is another one.

One of Frenchie, CMAC, Ward will be involved.

They want young mids. We are willing.
If one of those are to be involved it can’t be with 2 firsts.

A first this year or next year and one of those.

Appreciate it! So how hard would you trade for him?
I’d be going very hard. He is the best prospect since Trac and even then he was coming in off an injury.

I really do get the hesitation of people wanting to put a Ward, or MacDonald ect up

The only thing I would say is that they do have a lot of very similar players

Day, Newcombe, Ward, Mackenzie then Nash and if you are trying to bring in a Bailey Smith next year it’s getting deeper and which is great.

I personally prefer keeping the picks and the kids and just taking whoever is best available at what is likely pick 4 however if they moved this years and next years and one of those guys I would get it too he will be a gun

Reality is the players they are asking for they are wanting for a reason. Some of the other players being mentioned in here like Scrimshaw, CJ and Morrison etc don’t move the needle at all

If we are happy to lose them to get him then they probably aren’t enough for West Coast

I'm nowhere near as qualified as the many experienced draft watchers on our board and Bigfooty as a whole but Reid is a rare talent.

He is the stand out #1 pick. Not only does he play like it he plays like he knows it too. He's the guy who can will a team over the line and win the game off his own boot.

We have drafted a lot of good players who are solid citizens but outside of Newk and Sicily we are really lacking some campaigner in our team. Someone big mean and nasty and this kid is the meanest and nastiest of his draft crop by a huge margin.

Can't remember seeing a kid bully grown men like Reid.

I really like ward but I could deal with him being part of the trade. Cmac 1 and 2 could easily move into his wing role and provide more x factor and stronger inside games.

4+f1+ward

Reid+f2

Crazy , but I would do it.
I'd be comfortable with that deal. I don't believe Ward is ever going to be the sort of player that we can't do without.

I couldn’t agree more,

We should sell the farm, Dingley and any other realestate we can to land him.

His best position is hbf or mid imo even though he loves a goal, you want him in the play, I see him playing that Hodge role as hbf interceptor team first type who can impact through the midfield, he could easily pop off straight away or take some time like JHF, depends on his mental ability to fit into his teams strategy ect.
