You’re not reading my post.

You’re just wanting an argument for the sake of it.

I read it. People bringing the Dockers into the equation aren’t being reasonable. He clearly has a deal on the table that he wants to take with WCE - I can only presume Freo made an offer also and he’s chosen West Coast. That there’s another club in Perth is a moot point now - he wants to play at West Coast so the Freo angle doesn’t remotely help us at all. This may not be entirely aimed at you but those in general clinging to some hope that Freo can help inflate our trade price. West Coast’s first pick in the PSD really screws our bargaining power.

Gonna be very upset losing ward, cmac or Frenchie. Effectively giving up three 1st round picks. I know cmac was pick 22 but he looks like he could become anything.

Ward and frenchie die hard hawks fans. And cmac very good mates with ward. We'd be breaking up a massive bond.
Yep, it would destroy the fabric of a young group. Kinda like offloading Hodge, Mitchell for nothing and not sending them off as Hawks.

I don't want to ruin things early.

We are on a great path to our rebuilding

Get Dursma/Watson

Try to get B. Smith

Have got Chol and Ambro, Maginness and possibly Dear

Have still got all of our developing kids

Try to get a top 10 pick somehow

Try to get 1 or 2 moneyball trades from Kossie and Brocky, if we can lure one more ready made player it's a great haul

We are on an upward swing now, keep the momentum going, not shoot ourselves in the foot sheesh

As much as I would LOVE Reid, I gotta agree with this.

It’s actually a huge opportunity for Eagles to come for a player at a club like Hawthorn that they like, offer a big deal and have the player request a trade out.

I'm calling it as I see it.

If the rumours are true and we are contemplating paying that kind of price to move up just two spots in the draft that reeks of late era Clarko.

Overpaying massively for one player which has long term ramifications for the list.

And to be fair to Clarko he never paid anything like this kind of price for an unproven kid.

Like I said before if this was North or Freo contemplating a deal like this we would be rolling our eyes.

'Late Clarko' delayed our rebuild with what ended up being anything but positive trades and we're still paying the price for that short-sightedness.

Sam is trying to make up for lost time by speeding up the rebuild and I trust his vision completely.

Sam and MM have made all the right calls until now - Weddle being the outstanding example for whom we apparently overpaid significantly on draft night (D+!!!). If they think the price is right for Reid, I'll happily go along with it.

+/- pick swaps, and that’s actually pretty good.

But it’s basically North stepping aside for us.

North slide from 2 to 4 and gain a decent player with some experience. They get Dursma at 3 and Watson at 4. Instead of selling their farm for Reid, they do the sensible thing and use their picks to build their list. But ****ing lol - this is North so not a chance in hell for any of that to happen.

Media talking as if Norths pick 2 and 14 would get it done for pick 1. Highly doubt we’d have to give up and 3, F1 AND Frenchie, Cmac or Ward. 3 and F1 plus brockman and some steak knives surely gets it done if they want to trade it.
The difference is that Eagles would have certainty over who they'll get at 2. Trading for our pick 3 enables the risk that North take Curtin at pick 2.

My dream hypothetical scenario is for the AFL to only offer North an end of first rounder for Mackay so we can all enjoy them whingeing but accepting it, or deciding to match and battle it out with Dodo trying to get a better pick.
I know it is unlikely but it would add so much more drama to the trade period and enable Dodo to enjoy being in the spotlight before he exits stage left.
Come on AFL give us a bit of theatre to enjoy.
Why is the McKay deal not yet done.. Surely Mckay contract is all ready or is Dodo doing side deal with North before filing.

Perhaps Eagles want the player instead of F1. So pick 3 and the player, plus Brockman

3 top ten picks drafted instead of a Dusty type will potentially have more impact than one Dusty type.
100% agree.

Lists win preimeriships, not individual players.

We need to increase the quality all across the field, can't be throwing away top ten draft picks and quality players Willy nilly.

For those that have actually watched a lot of Reid (Davo-27 perhaps?) - where do you see him at come round 1 next year? Could he hit the ground running and just storm into senior footy like Daicos? Or will he be a slower burn like say a Petracca?

He is ready to go now, there would be some learning involved obviously but has played senior footy at VFL level and looked comfortable

At worst he is more forward rotating through the middle initially progressing toward full time mid as his tank buolds

The hardest part for rookies a lot is the conditioning and professionalism which is why they can take a couple of pre seasons to get ready to their best at around the 80-100 game mark but he has been a pro ready guy for the best part of two years

Once he gets the speed of the game he will be very very good

He is different to Daicos in he’s more grunt than silk but the fact he is able to do that at VFL level already shows where he is at

Appreciate it! So how hard would you trade for him?

Been busy for a couple hours just caught up ……. some of the names thrown up on top of the picks proposed is fckn insane. For what to move up a couple of spots!!!!!!! Had to rub my eyes and check the thread title a few times thinking I was accidentally diverted to bay 13!

If our first this year and the next isn’t near close MM should not waste anymore oxygen.

Is it worth trying for a Bowes type deal with gws and taking on Haynes’s full contract and trying to get one of their first round picks? (Ideally Richmond’s that they traded for hopper last year, so pick 6-7)

Frees them up cash-wise, we get another top pick, and whilst it’s a cap hit, we keep being told we have lots of money available. We could either shuffle the exiting contracts to fit it in, or do a Geelong and offer him a second year with a small increase and smooth it over a couple of years.

Whilst we don’t need another half back, we could then trade out one of the plethora we have, say Scrimshaw, for a second round or future second round, and improve our draft hand for next year.
Now, I don’t necessarily want to lose Scrimshaw, but it seems like he’s not a guaranteed first 22 player

Kingsley has already said a First rounder won’t be included with Haynes for a salary dump.

Imagine trying to convince a young Victorian lad “hey mate how do you feel about heading over to WA”.

Not happening.

Don't all of Ward, MacDonald and Frenchy still live at home as well?

You'd not only be convincing them to move states, you'd be convincing them to move away from their parents for the first time. Whilst contracted.

I know players can be persuaded but I don't see those 3 being banished to the reserves long term as punishment either if and when they refused.

West Coast like the look of our Frenchie. CMAC is another one.

One of Frenchie, CMAC, Ward will be involved.

They want young mids. We are willing.
If we're getting that specific/in the weeds I wonder how far progressed this is.

I don't want to lose any of these players- especially given two of them are life-time Hawk fans and the other is someone who we have seen significant growth out of.
If the club believes that Reid is worth it then I back them in, but the throwbacks to my parents being devastated about the Croad trade will be insane!

It will be (I feel) nearly impossible to convince one of those three to move, but it sounds like we're going to try/force one out.

Bit of a logjam in midfield at the moment. Maybe a player giving way could be a blessing for another to flourish.

Reid is battle ready from day 1. Could play him on either end of the ground until he builds his tank for the middle.

Could easily see him kick 30 goals in his first season as a HFF.

It will come down to who the club see as most expendable. I don't like it but I don't like us being irrelevant in the grand scheme of things either. Reid will put bums on seats and will make us a better side. We don't want to have too much of the same sort of player. Footy is a business unfortunately so if a decision is made that involves the players mentioned I'm prepared to accept it.
