Happy with this result, doesn't give us a huge hand/return but it does give us flexibility to now get our other deals done.

54 or 63 will now go to Brisbane for Gunston you would think and will allow us another pick later in the draft once points are used.

I think the major hold ups for us has been us needing to be 110% sure we'd have our points covered for our bids. Last thing we want is a top 4 pick next year getting watered down because of a deficit.

pick 44 = 362 points.
pick 63 = 112 points.

The total of 474 points is between pick 37(483 pts) and pick 38 (465 pts)

Could help us in McCabe or Calsher Dear bid matching.

The suns have 6 picks before 44, and after matching the 3 academy bids those picks will come in 3 each.

So will end up 41 & 60, which is 558 points so value in between picks 33 and 34.

West Coast has given up picks 44 + 63 to Hawthorn for small forward Tyler Brockman.

Decent deal.

Now hope we do 44(362pts) for Chol+66+71(109 pts)

Suns end up with 24,27,28,32,36,38,44,62 ( have freed 5 list spots till now, need to delist 3 more)

We end up with 4,33,54,63,66,71

Hope we target Richmond's F2 for Kosi if they are loathe to give up 29 for one of our later picks.

Tigers have 29,50,68

Brilliant, I was shot down for months on the draft board when I was suggesting this should be what we need to get it done. His value is probably around a late 2nd but you throw in his kids, our need for points for F/S bids and their pick 1 in the PSD. A bundle of crap picks that equates to about that is fair.

IMO we need a KPF better than Chol for our next premiership. He may improve us in 2024 but he’s not the messiah.

Ok true and he is 25 years old and just starting was a mid season pick up also.

Pick 30 in a National draft is a big stock rise still Nope still keep as back up keep Ryan forget Gunston.

I am not keen to overpay for Chol or Gunston (or anyone) Part of the reason we threepeated was that we did the opposite of everyone else. We traded players in because everyone else was overvaluing draft picks. Players that are not best 22 should be worth token picks only. Now that everyone is overvaluing borderline players, we should stick to the draft.

Yep here here.

I think we have a large stock of developing mids who we can rotate through different roles including inside bull. Between: Jai, Nash, Day, Mackenzie, Mcdonald, Ward, Stephens, Long (though he may not stay) and even Moore, Amon, etc. I think we have enough to cover.
Most of these guys are midfielders only Jai, Nash, Stephens and Long are really the inside ball winning types of players the others play different roles currently.

The last 2 are most likely off our list by the end of next year as well. With all fit we are developing a diverse midfield group. Not much inside grunt though.

Will Smith be a restricted free agent next year then?

We just wait it out and then he nominates us and we sign him on for 6 years @ 800k, dogs get their first round compo and we're on our way? I think we'd need them to have a bad year because if they finish top 8 surely they'll match our offer and force a trade, pick 11-18 isn't enough to satisfy the dogs.

Sam would love him because he has an ego as big as Sam's.

Aren’t we looking at one of the forwards but that’s FA

I think this is a fair trade. The club rated him a late second rounder so this is around the mark. Good trade for both clubs. The way it should be done. Unlike that w***er at Essendon.

Really disappointing to miss out on both Reid and Smith when we went so hard at both.

On top of McKay earlier who we thought we had over the line

If we fail to land Massimo that would make it a very underwhelming trade period tbh.

I'm glad we are keeping our F1 now because I'm not seeing a surge up the ladder next year. Still looking forward to it though.

I imagine Sam, Mackenzie and McCartney will be very disappointed too. We are supposed to be in a hurry with this rebuild with an aggressive trade period and they just keep missing out.

If true, Smith is the biggest miss, exactly the sort of elite talent at the right age that we need. From what I hear he was all over coming to the hawks too, who knows if he still feels the same in 12 months time.

Not upset about the brocky trade, we were never getting much for him. Also disappointing but that's been on the cards for a while..

I'm not having a sook, I'm still excited where the c team is going, it's just a bit flat.

Since we're both the 'good guy', loser, friend-zone, polite, don't rock the boat trading teams - if either of us are going to make our eventual stand to show a stronger trading stance it probably shouldn't be against each other.

Let's wait for Essendon, Geelong or Port to need something...
