I'd rather cough up a third round pick for someone like Ned Moyle or Sam Hayes.

I think TDK just has too much hype around him. He's portrayed as this generational talent/ superstar ruckman, but I don't think he'll ever live up to hype. Furthermore, there's no way we're paying 600k for a bloke who is losing a battle for the primary ruck position with Marc Pittonet.
He is worth 600k
We are paying jones that
Perfect get

We dodged a bullet by keeping Hunter Clark. He's always been a gun, the fact he was being shopped in the first place because of his face getting shattered in two was silly. He had a great 2020 and then two shocking years with unfortunate contact injuries. He is a jet and is only going to get better in the next 3 years.

I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a run and pushes for some trade value at some point. He does seem to have stepped up.
Setterfield played 13 games last year.

Carlton and Essendon swapped 4th round picks for him, so basically free.

Even if he does play a few games late Inn the year he's have to be tearing it up to get some kind of value

I can see the point of view that we don't have a real proper backup for Marshall if we make finals. But Marshal has a good 4-5 years left so we'd be looking at someone who simply may not get a game if Roma stays fit and Moose comes on in a couple of years. I dunno but a high-ish pick and 600-ish thousand bucks seems pretty unnecessary right now and I'd hope SOS and Co are smarter about it than that. Flynn as a free agent seems a much much more responsible target.

Looks like we missed a player with Simon ODonnells son going to the Bulldogs as a Cat B. I know he only played 20 odd games but does Simon still have any affiliation with the club?

yeah, i don't understand why we wouldn't have been into him ? i wonder if the saints tried?

Setterfield didn't cost them pick 3 though. Dow is one their fans are pissed off about and they want something back for optics. Plenty are wanting him in their current side so they risk a big backlash.

I think they are buying on potential. He was on track to be a gun a year ago and you'd be imagining they think he's going to be our main ruckman. I guess Roma would be a second ruck or traded.

I don’t think where a player went in the draft is overly relevant after 6 years if he can’t even get a game.

Setterfield cost the Blues picks 25 and 43 and then gave him up for nothing 4 years later.

Port acquaintance said they hope he turns into a stewart down back
If hes turnong it over 30% of the time he can stay at port i think
I was very keen on him after his pre season form playing on a wing. He’s been solid since moving to defence but his skills have been poor.

I wouldn’t want to be giving up too much for a back pocket plumber. You’d want to be confident he can push up the ground and be a bit more damaging.

Setterfield was looking like waste of a spot though. Setterfield was a GWS version of Dow ironically.

Well he was playing senior footy so I’m not sure how he was more of a waste of a spot than Dow who just plays VFL

Carlton fans claim their list managers wanted to keep Setterfield but because he was out of contract and Dow wanted to stay they had no choice.

Depends how far off they think we are. If it's more than 2 years then fine, but if we move in some other pieces this offseason then it could be game on next year.

I guess we'll see at the end of the year. Not many fans liked Setterfield, they like Dow even though (or possibly because) they don't see him play.

Depends who you talk to I guess. Reading through their thread there are quite a few that have mentioned they’d wished they were able to keep Setterfield I’ve Dow if they had the option.

In the end though it’s not the fans that make the value. Time will tell.

It's a good point though... List management is an imperfect science & sometimes you have to let a player go that you don't really want to lose & keep a bloke who you'd be happy to drop bc he's got a pesky contract.

For example we picked up Butler for chump change thanks to him being OOC & Richmond having a tight cap & a heap of small forwards.

If he was contracted & Castagna was OOC then 'Can't Stand ya' would have been the one who was sacrificed.

Probably a similar thing with us in 2020 with Hind & Dmac (yet things worked out pretty good for us in that regard, notwithstanding Dan's calf issues).

Typical of the way Carlton supporters rate their list. Look at the number of first rounders and say with full knowledge that their list is the best in the league.

Luckily football is played by 22 players irrespective of where they appeared on draft night.

He hasn’t played footy for 2 years… was concentrating on cricket.

A real stab in the dark by the Dogs.

Hope you don’t mind For someone that hasn’t played Footy in a few years he looks impressive making his AFL Debut against Carlton.
