And that right there is the Bing quandary for us being played out in real time. He'll cost a fortune at the trade table, is the juice worth the squeeze?
Nah, it's completely different IMO

Jackson is a ruck that doesn't have a lot of impact forward. They already had a quality first ruck, so to tie up that much money and draft capital didn't make a lot of sense.

Having two high quality key forwards rather than being heavily reliant on one main guy is going to help you win a flag. Even makes more sense if you can throw one in the ruck for 5 minutes rather than Mitch Owens or Zayne Cordy

Jackson was a crazy deal for a player they didn’t need, lesson for the get bing crew.
Well actually, after we win the flag this year, getting Bing will be more like how Richmond added Lynch to Riewoldt, or Geelong added Cameron to Hawkins.

Also, let’s not forget that Jackson is only 21 years old. Whole career still in front of him at Fremantle. Get good players when you can, gotta have the balance of taking the risks and playing conservatively, it’s the same on field as it is for running a list IMO.

Freo are a team going nowhere. Can’t kick goals and it’s not like there’s a bunch of young guys coming through who will kick them eventually, I’d be in the ear of Brayshaw and Serong trying to convince one of them to come home.

Sturt looked good last night, I’d be happy with him as a Freo fan. Walters needs to retire, Schultz is average, like a Dean Kent kind of bloke, O’Meara is cooked, Aish is a squib. They need an overhaul.

They royally stuffed up if that was their plan because they’ve given up quality picks for a player they didn’t need. No point going backwards if you’re not going to reap the benefits of the picks when you’re down there. If I’m Brayshaw or Serong I’m not waiting 4-5 years for them to get their list in order.

Jackson was projecting to be a star forward in their premiership year and is a project still. They won’t know how shit the deal was until he’s mid 20s.

Probably just need time and a couple more drafts. I reckon they look a bit like us last couple of years. They have some nice pieces but need more.

He’s never really shown he could be a decent forward even in their flag year. If Freo thought he was going to be a gun forward based off basically half a goal a game it makes that deal look even worse. He’s a gun but he’s a ruckman and he’ll never be able to play as one, very strange choice even from him.

Wasn’t what they needed, stupid decision at 21, 25 or 30. I‘m all for making bold moves when they make sense. Sport is littered with teams who got things badly wrong and there are a few who get things right more often than not. They aren’t the teams who let emotion and the heart rule the head.

Anyway let’s see how this season and off season play out, we’ve made some good moves off field and a promising start on it. I’m hopeful things will break our way but I can tell you that 17 other teams are convinced they’re on the right path as well.

Jackson didn't do too much as a forward. He always did his best work when he got to go in the ruck.

The 21 grand final for instance when he helped turn the game on its head

I think their list is actually pretty good, even if Jackson was a bit of a puzzling move.

Their major issue right now is their coach. His game plan has been worked out by the opposition and he just doesn't seem to have any answers.

He genuinely sounds out of his depth when he discusses is it his press conferences.

Serong just went there not too long ago (I think).
How old is Brayshaw?

Totally agree. There ball movement (or lack thereof) is diabolical. Any key forward would struggle to get a kick with the way they enter the forward line, it reminded me of us last year, only worse. Jackson is still only a kid and when he did kick goals at Melbourne it was usually from a lead up play - but Fremantle are that concerned about getting scored against they are not willing to move the ball with any speed.

Absolutely atrocious coaching by Longmuir, some of the worst I have seen.

My concern is that it doesn't look like we can throw either of them into the ruck for 5 minutes. At least neither Gold Coast nor the Saints have seemed willing to. If they could play ruck then it would be a no-brainer to get both of them, but getting two 200cm+ forwards who can't play ruck feels dangerous to me.

Parallels with Ratts. Had us going well then slowed ball movement but didn’t have the skills for keeping’s off. One player for 90% of all inside 50s to through.

Schultz has a large man’s head on a small man’s body and it looks freakin’ weird 🤪

He's got that Sam Mitchell regular noggin on a manlet body. He puts together a decent enough game every now and then to justify his place on a list, much like Kent, who would dob a few goals from 55 out on the run every now and then and make you go "Ohhhh, Dean Kent, not bad, could still have some upside".

To me it’s mostly cost. Richmond, Geelong and Melbourne had money to chase players even after playing finals. We were hamstrung by our cap space last time. Keeping TPP low is more important than ever.

It would be different if you have 2 of them though

If we were to throw Max in the ruck it leaves us with no big target forward

I'd imagine it's done more by choice than the fact they can't actually play there

Brayshaw is 23. They haven’t been there long but I just think these insterstate mids are the types we should be after.

If Ben King is willing to come to St Kilda - you take him.
What are we lacking atm - a marking key forward and a guy who can help in the ruck.
FFS atm we are playing a 4 game kid and a spud from the Dogs.

Having Max King and Ben King is going to be a headache for every team.

They are also only 22/23 so will be able to start to bulk up a bit more and potentially be able to go into the ruck more.
First couple of seasons were bean poles and would have been snapped in half.
English is now 25 and has only just got enough size now to make an impact. Ro was similar.

A good run with injury and another pre-season in the gym and both could be able to do stints through there.
If we had 2 it also doesnt diminish the fwd line in that process.

Reckon we would need a ruck coach to come in and work with them though.
What is big Sandi up too?

At what cost? If we give up 3 high draft picks you could be getting him at the cost of MWM, Windy and Owens. Not that I’d be unhappy if he was on our list.
The 4 game kid is tracking well and would then have to go back to the 2s for most of the season. Yep Cordy is definitely replaceable and will be once Hayes is fit.
If Bens last name isn’t King would be still be going out of our way to get him?
