Love how the media's consistent narrative is we have no A-graders, yet these blokes are now referred to as "out of contract stars".
You don't understand modern day media? Buzzwords used for click bait. It's very embarrassing. But that's modern society for you.

I was thinking the club might tell them to do pre season and if they get through we‘ll offer a deal then, depending on who we pick up in the meantime. I can’t imagine we‘ll have much competition for their signatures.
That'd be a pretty decent approach if we have lists spots. I wouldn't be offering them a list spot as they continue to have recurring injuries, which would be pretty unlikely to improve.

Coff has had different and accidental injuries, so l would keep him. 1 year and a games trigger for 2 or match 2 years if we have to

And everything hyperbolic -
legend
superstar
champion
greatest of all time…

thrown around so often and without discretion that it totally dilutes the true meaning.

Think you’re agreeing with him.

Not sure how you come to that conclusion.

2 years for Coff (if that what it takes to keep him) is in no way shape or form crazy.

He has shown he can play at the level.

Freezer had not shown that yet got 3 years.

Yes different regimes but the point stands.

So something that happened 25 years ago should be the reason behind a decision we make today?

Losing a super promising young player after a serious injury is a lesson you should never forget.

Plenty to move on before Coff

ASKING PRICE SET FOR YOUNG DOCKER

Fremantle will ask for a pick between 15-25 in return for trading former No. 9 draft pick Liam Henry to the Hawks.

The Dockers are prepared to trade Henry after his official trade request and believe the Hawks are ahead of his only other suitor St Kilda.

Henry met with Hawthorn and St Kilda in the days after round 24, and after his breakout season would be a perfect acquisition for the Hawks given he is only 22 years of age.

The Dockers reason if they were to secure a player of his talent in the draft this year it would need to be in the top 25 picks so they will drive a hard bargain.

The Herald Sun revealed in February Henry was on the move to a Victorian club, and if the Hawks could secure him for a later selection it would be a trade coup.

Hawthorn has been looking at ways to bring more elite talent into the club without giving up early picks, including potential salary cap dumps in the same manner as the Jack Bowes pick 7 deal last year.

They have picks three, 29 and 48 but need to secure enough points for father-son Will McCabe, who is a late first-rounder.

Looks like nobody wants to lose Coff.
Let’s hope a deal is signed sooner rather then later.

It's probably just his management trying to get another year. I doubt Brisbane is offering 3 years for a guy who's been unable to play for 2 years. They have a great list and might lose Rich which would free up a spot but they will be looking for a free hit with him, not getting desperate and signing him up for years.

Really hope we don't lose the Coff.
Recency bias is immense in footy. And I know it's hard to maintain players on the list with consistent injuries (beyond their control) for too long. But he's worth a new contract.
Is built like a man now, was in great form prior to his injuries and everyone recognised what a weapon and an asset was to the club.
Back him to get back there.

They will offer him a contract but sounds like he's testing the water to see if he can get longer. Both him and Clark would have been on huge money for their output so are probably having trouble adjusting to getting low balled. I'd say he's more likely to stay than go still.

Pick 32 it is.

Rich has announced this season is his last - so yes, they're losing him.

I think it’s because the poster you were responding to also wants to keep him (they were responding to thoughts that he may be offered only 1 year) as in…

We'd be crazy to lose Coffield over a 2 year contract.

I think he was saying it would be crazy to lose him by not just giving him the two years?

He's worth a pick around 25 to me. I'd rather take a FR pick to the draft.
Agree. We don’t really have a suitable pick for him at the moment but that may change if we lose players.

Howard probably gets us a pick around that area if he leaves.

Clark we may struggle to get a good pick for if he goes to North

That’s what he was saying.
Keep him. We’d be crazy not to, just for the sake of a second year.

They arnt getting that high of a pick. Hawthorn seem to be into everyone.

Why is it also believed the hawks are ahead of us since we have been linked to him all year and are playing finals.

I doubt there will be a lot of interest in either Billo Gresh Coff Hunter or Doogs which means crap returns due to lack of bidders. Maybe we can improve our lot by throwing in a set of steak knives and pots.
Leo Bytel Highmore Allison pots and pans???
Pair any two up and you’d get an amazing deal.

I think the hawks strategy is to be loud and kinked to everyone. Everyone knows they want mckay/henry/ratugolea they were into Flanders and Smith probably others as well. Easy for the media to pick them as favourites. We're more select and quieter I think, not showing as much vocal interest.

All I know he has improved the list vastly since he has been at the club and we have not seen and will not see until a few more years how a lot of these players impact the club but I feel we now have a abundance of talent and some of it have not even played a game yet.

McLennan was available as a cat B rookie when we got Peris. Technically we messed up by choosing Josiah Kyle instead, who didn't work out.
We were lucky McLennan was still available the next year, though its still not sure thing he'll be good enough for AFL.
Ability isn’t the question mark on Gus..it’s his body holding up!
