Brisbane are sniffing around Coffield, they seem to target players who are strong marks in defence. I wouldnt like to lose him he has his best footy in front of him. If he does ask to leave he is not contracted so we wont get alot for him. That is the obvious down side of having so many players uncontrated, its not great list management IMO.

Ability isn’t the question mark on Gus..it’s his body holding up!

If you look at our soft tissue injury list this year it was either the first or second year players whose bodies struggled with the added work loads or the players with ongoing chronic issues. Im sure once McLennan's and the other younger bodies mature they will shake off the injury concerns.

They got nothing in the way of picks. He would go up there and be unreal I reckon

Straight swop for Kai lahmann

It seems that every club is in the same boat as far as uncontracted players this year.
Not just us.
There’s another factor at play.

Im amazed they still have salary cap room to offer Doedee or Coff and big deal? I would hate to lose him but perhaps we could ask for Brisbanes 1st round pick next year? We might not get it but generally they are ok to deal with.

As mentioned Botts I think Lohmann is looking to return home for more opportunities. He is still quite lightly built but has speed and is a goal kicker which would add to our half forward line. I would still rather keep Coffield and offer Clark as far as our list make up is concerned we need to hold our more stronger marking players IMO. Its something that all the better sides have across every line - particularly in defence.

I still think we would want something else pick wise thrown in if we were to give up Coffield.

Lohman fits the bill, he's a front half player and hits the scoreboard. Has genuine x-factor which we lack, but the Lions seem to have in abundance.
We've also done pretty well out of Ballarat/Greater Western Rebels with Ross, Marshall, Van Es, Crouch and Butler all coming through. His older brother Jake is also on our VFL list. I'd hate to lose Coffield, but getting back a first round pick from the same draft as NWM, Chito and Windy would be a good outcome for us

I've watched him playing VFL and he's got some real star potential. It could be a win win with them getting a young player that fits their needs and we get one back.

Could this be our next barramundi????

Surely we sign Stocker up on a multi year deal?

It seems we're comfortable keeping Gresh now which means if he wants to go elsewhere we can match the offer and go to a trade if we aren't happy with the compo.

I think Jones will get a one year deal.

If Coff leaves it will be interesting to see the kind of deal he gets. Same with Clark. Personally I'm not too fussed about losing either of them, with Coff it may be that he just wants a fresh start elsewhere. Of course it would hurt to see him succeed elsewhere but by the same token he doesn't want to be stuck in the 2s and they just might not see a spot for him.

There’s another factor at play.

I’d say player managers would have timed quite a few contract negotiations to lineup with the new collective bargaining agreement, which is still up in the air I think.

With regard to Coffield if we have been paying him overs (say $550k) then I think a one year contract offer at the same rate, with a games played trigger is fair.

If he wants more years then the club would be well within its rights to reduce the contract value on offer, say 2 or 3 years at $450k.

But to be brutally honest Coffield hasn’t done enough yet to command an elite wage, regardless of the reasons.

Either way Coffield is going to be unhappy and therefore I can understand why his player manager is testing the market.

I also think most of our uncontracted players are also unresolved due to the uncertainty around Gresham.

I would think that once the Gresham domino falls a few others will as well.

Honestly I’m more concerned about Phillipou not signing a new contract yet.

Re Coffield, the smart thing to do is to offer him 2 years guaranteed and a games trigger for the 3rd year.

He has security of a two year deal and we have safety if he goes full Freeman than it’s just 2 not 3.

Nas hadn't signed at this stage last year.

No way would Coffield get us a 1st rounder... he hasn't played in 2 years and is uncontracted. 🤦‍♂️

Brisbane's 2nd at the very best IMO. I'd rather keep him for that though.

Every club has about 1/3 of their list coming out of contract every year.

I think the hawks strategy is to be loud and kinked to everyone. Everyone knows they want mckay/henry/ratugolea they were into Flanders and Smith probably others as well. Easy for the media to pick them as favourites. We're more select and quieter I think, not showing as much vocal interest.

That’s what St.Kilda and North Melbourne did for quite a number of years when they weren’t/still not competing in finals.

It worked! Saints got Logan Austin.

Losing a super promising young player after a serious injury is a lesson you should never forget.

Plenty to move on before Coff

i agree with the bolded.

which is why i said i want him on a 1 year deal. Give him a games trigger.

but don't give him 2+ years.

He has missed 2 seasons of AFL football.

his most recent season was really underwhelming too.

Its shit, it's a crap story. but it happens and Coff will do what's right for him. But it has to be right for us too. Keep in mind, His most recent extension was decent deal too (with Clark). Even if we offer 2 years, he might not want a decrease in salary.

ASKING PRICE SET FOR YOUNG DOCKER

Fremantle will ask for a pick between 15-25 in return for trading former No. 9 draft pick Liam Henry to the Hawks.

The Dockers are prepared to trade Henry after his official trade request and believe the Hawks are ahead of his only other suitor St Kilda.

Henry met with Hawthorn and St Kilda in the days after round 24, and after his breakout season would be a perfect acquisition for the Hawks given he is only 22 years of age.

The Dockers reason if they were to secure a player of his talent in the draft this year it would need to be in the top 25 picks so they will drive a hard bargain.

The Herald Sun revealed in February Henry was on the move to a Victorian club, and if the Hawks could secure him for a later selection it would be a trade coup.

Hawthorn has been looking at ways to bring more elite talent into the club without giving up early picks, including potential salary cap dumps in the same manner as the Jack Bowes pick 7 deal last year.

They have picks three, 29 and 48 but need to secure enough points for father-son Will McCabe, who is a late first-rounder.
Again to me this shouts us or Melbourne. Basically saying it's going to take our first pick.
Our pick after academy etc may well be pick 18.
Given this is supposedly a weak draft, I would probably do it

Not concerned.

Loves the joint.Loves the Boss. Loves the idea he could be our next star. Club is great with his family too

So with all the GC NGA's, a Dogs FS and a Hawks FS, most projected to go first round, we can expect the 2nd and 3rd rounds to be gutted for points.
If we snaffle a couple of late 3rdRDP for nuffin they could land end of 2nd round which is still in the good zone for talent.

I can see the likes of Pato and Billings facilitating this, while higher valued players like Doogs and Hunts will allow a couple of trades.

Coffield’s currency has dropped considerably since he hasn’t played for 2 years
