I like the Dow pick up. Adds a bit of power and grunt around the footy and increases some competition to the midfield group. Time for Dow, Pou, Owens, Windhager to push the incumbents so they either elevate their game or move aside.

Looking forward to seeing Paddy breaking out of congestion and delivering handballs to Liam Henry, NAS, sincs and Hill on the outside.

Ok I’m a heretic but I’m sorry I don’t rate him above any other fit and ready to play young guy. He’s shown he can tag but other than that he’s bog average imo.

Wouldn't care honestly, at least I know we are going about the rebuild properly unlike the last 10 years of stocking up on mature age players that weren't getting us anywhere.
The thing is young players also needs senior support, see Collingwood / Sydney, Port etc.

Our list is unbalanced after years of neglect; poor coaching and lack of development. So we are plugging holes with young (Henry, Dow) / senior players (Shiel) for cheap, whilst also hitting the draft hard.

Except this time we have:

1. A competent senior coach (Lyon)
2. Good development coach (Carrol)
3. Assistant coaches (Hayes, Harvey,
4. Recruiter (Toce)
5. List manager (Silvagni)

I know some posters on here are traumatised by our past incompetence and prefer we do nothing except by playing “safe” - drafting 18 year olds only. But let’s see how this trade / draft period plays out, and reserve your total disgust until end of next season perhaps

Agree but been saying your last bit for the last 10 years there's little trust until I see good decisions made consistently over a longer period of time. Don't think Dow is a talented footballer and so I'd prefer we went a different way ie more focus on the draft or playing our talented kids in there instead.

Anyway I was passing the time this afternoon, honestly don't give that much of a stuff about it, just think we replace junk with more junk and it gets us nowhere

For what we're gonna give up for Dow, it's a good deal even if he's a bit of an unknown. Would you rather pick 45-50 (future 3rd) or a 22yr old former pick 3 that addresses a need and has shown glimpses but been starved of opportunity?

Things of f'kn beauty, especially with the 5th metatarsal broken in three places.

Had to troll through my old photos for this so enjoyView attachment 1825735

Walked 10 ks on it the next day through Edinburgh. Felt like I was in one of those drug fcuked scenes from Trainspotting.

On SM-S908E using BigFooty.com mobile app
i can show you my broken 5th metatarsal, . has 8 screws and a plate.

What’s his ceiling? A younger version of Crouch, extractor type mid?

I know he was highly touted as a jnr and went pick 3, so he must have some quality attributes, I wonder where it went wrong at Carlton.

Same reason so many of our talented kids never went on with it.

Poor coaching, poorer development & in Dow’s case, got games he didn’t deserve for a long time.

He’s shown enough when Voss has played him to suggest there is some untapped talent still there.

Which platform are these links for Stav? My Bigfooty just says "No App found to handle action"

Doing my head in. Cheers.

If you press at the top of the comment the app gives you a button for more options. Click on “web view” and you can see it in you web browser.

Watching Paddy’s highlights from this year it looks like he doesn’t back his power enough and rushes his kick forward. He does the hard work to get clear and kinks it two steps latter when he could steady over 10m and make a concerted attempt to hit a target. There is plenty to work with if Ross and Lenny can turn the right screws and get him to back his legs more from stoppage.

He is no worse than Steele by foot.

Firstly well done to the club for attracting the targetted players and getting them to nominate us. Midfield speed was obviously our targetted mantra!

I think Dow will be an inspired trade! The 10 games he played this year showed a glimpse of what he is capable of when given opportunity and I think in our current environment he will continue to improve. He soon turns 24yo so if all goes well he will be a 8-10 year Saint.

Liam Henry 22yo is another who was just starting to show what he is capable of and if he continues to grow on this years efforts, we will have a very good and talented player on our hands.

Dylan Sheil 31yo but still provides burst break away speed, which is something our current midfield is seriously lacking. Yes he may only play 2 or 3 years but will offer another mature mid while we bring our kids through. He hasnt nominated or requested a trade as yet, but you would think thats just a formality.

I was skeptical of the SOS appointment initially, but it would seem he is achieving all our goals this year.

Or we could have Coffield and just flick him away.
I think a lot of people here are focusing too much on the potential of Coffield. He hasn't played for 2 years and was dropped multiple times in his most recent season. We had the best defence in the league this season, whose spot is he taking? Maybe he has seen the standards Ross has set and wants to take it easy at the bulldogs where they don't run much according to Josh Dunkley.

We are losing a former top 10 pick, but Dow and Henry were too, both of which can help improve us in the middle where we need it most. We can't fix our list in a year, but part of that is no longer offering long deals and overpaying based on potential.
