Kingsley is coaching a side with about 15 guns. Lyon did an amazing job with the list he had this year. We were already like Grandmas 1996 Corolla racing against V8 Supercars but then half way around the track we blew a radiator and lost a wheel an he managed to steer us home to finish in the finals.
my point was there were good assistants there

The s**t he was doing inside his first 50 games was fantastic.

Game 10 - 25 and 3.0

Game 20 - 20 and 2.1

Game 21 - 22 and 4.2

Game 28 - 30 and 2.0

Game 41 - 25 and 1.0

Game 46 - 28 and 1.4

Game 49 - 22 and 2.3

Game 50 - 30 and 5.0

Someone racking up the pill and hitting the scoreboard like that inside their first 50 games should have turned into an elite player.

We totally butchered his development, it's tragic.
That’s pretty impressive

Our development the last 10 years has been ordinary like a lot other things

RTB has pretty much a clean slate moving forward he will make us relevant again.

Don’t underrate how good our year was this year

But speaking on Fox Footy’s Trading Day, Herald Sun reporter Jon Ralph indicated there wasn’t too much rival club love for Billing at the moment.

“There’s no interest right now,” Ralph told Trading Day. “He’s on over $500,000 a year – I think St Kilda would be prepared to foot some of that bill.

“Here’s the thing for Ross Lyon: If you are truly off him – and I think Paul Connors his manager spoke about Ross maybe not giving him a chance – what is the point of keeping him on the list? If you can get any pick for him if you have to pay $400,000 of that $550,000 – they’ve got cap space – can you find a home for him?”

Not a real live option to offload the entirety of his salary and get a usable pick
Basically we've purchased a F3 pick

Sure Billings might work hard, but it’s a myth he is a highly skilled or x-factor player (his bio at draft year), doesn’t take the game on, doesn’t hit targets unless under no pressure. People have been conditioned to think he is a highly skilled and has some x-factor, apart from that 1 game against the dogs yonks again, have not seen it since.
And he is slow

WTF is Gumby Allan’s role exactly? Man, what a waste of space that geeza is.

Head of Talent and acquisition, technically SOS' boss.

He was previously working in an advisory role to the list team, since you know, Gallagher was working the books and contracting as our TPP was kinda cactus for a while there.

Must be unnerving for Jade.
Didn’t even consider us when he came from gws even though our offer was larger.

Few years down the track….get me out of the bombers!!!
That’s not right

He made much more money going to Essendon

So how much of Billings contract are we actually paying? Surely no more than 200k, otherwise we keep him.

A future 3rd from a good team is pretty much worthless.

To me even as depth and if we are paying him anyway you might as well hang on to him. Probably a pick in the 40s to 50s next year unlikely to give as much as Billings would as depth. That's if we even use it. This is hardly the draft to open up extra list spots for either. My best hope is we leave a spot open for a guy like Mannagh in the PSD.

Agree.
If they gave up a good pick ,we'd pay the salary, but for a garbage pick it makes no sense.

Maybe Billings will have a son who will be a jet and we can call it even.

There was no market for JB, he’d still be on our list if Richo wasn’t at the Dees or any other club. Cut your losses and move on, nobody wanted him.

Getting rid of three players who don’t want to be there and bring in two young exciting players who do want to he there sounds pretty good to me.

Don’t think there was ever a serious way for us to improve our draft hand, no matter how many times people say “bundle up X and Y for Z”, it’s not that easy.

Jesus that just what we don't need. There are so many more needs than another King.
I’d say we are well into Zac Butters.
Cornes admitted Rozee was going nowhere but could not say the same for Zac. You would expect Port would have him locked away by now being he is arguably their best player. But he is not and out of contract end of next year.

Question is what is he worth..?

I would pay him over a million for 6-7 years no problem.

You mean the team that lost the prelim by a point to the eventual premiers.
Yes. A lot changes over half a season so making the 8 one year doesn’t mean you make the top 4 the next year.
We faded badly this year, let’s hope the new guys give us some drive and the young ones go up another gear.
It looks like we’re going for a mini rebuild so may fall away a little while we’re hitting the draft.

Not too bad really this trade period, nothing super exciting but did a few things that I guess I support.

1. Got rid of some late 20’s age players who wanted decent coin and a spot in the team despite their development and ceiling seemingly stalled and having been very well looked after financially throughout their careers (Billings and Gresh).

2. Brought in 2 younger players who are closer to our age demographic that’s building and will be pushing for best 22 spots (Henry and Dow).

3. Lost a young player who has missed a lot of football in Coffield who in the last few months of the season finally got back to playing at Sandy and looked ok. A bit disappointing but how many young players have we lost? It was bound to happen eventually and is a sign of good depth in the back half.

4. Most importantly, didn’t cough up our first round pick for any of this and added an end of first round pick for Gresh. So even if this is a shallow draft you’d still hope to add some decent talent with ~13 and ~21.

I’d rather have our 2 players we brought in and keep our picks as opposed to sell the farm for Soldo, Ratugolea and Brendan Margaret Thatcher.

13, 21 & 40.
Unless we split picks to get Ports 112 & 130.
Hey, plus 92, 110, and 126! We spread the word that there were no decent draft pics after 50. That should convince all the other teams to pass on their selections, so we can move up the board. Now we're going to vacuum up all those late draft steals.
