I must be watching a different player to you obviously, he has electric speed off the mark and he's plenty agile enough, not to mention he applies plenty of pressure and tackles ferociously. He'll be more a leading 3rd tall than a KPP anyhow. Do you have access ti his G.P.S. numbers?
I watched the second half and yeh ok, there is definitely something there. He's pretty quick for his size. Has good hands, is a natural forward and has a booming kick.
In many ways he is like Fog. I'm worried he's too much like Fog. Goinhg to be interesting to see where a bid comes, but it's going to be top 20 for sure. He nearly won that game for SA himself. Looked unbelievably dangerous in the last quarter.

Looking at him today though I also saw a mixture of Fog and Schoenberg. And not the good parts.

Didn’t see the game but who do we take, Draper or J Smith. We need a midfielder that’s got express pace and is different to what we have. If we can’t hit a gun midfielder this draft, we never will.
Can we trade in next years and get another top 10 pick and pick another one

If it comes down to those 2 Draper for multiple reasons 1. hurt factor 2. speed, dare and evasiveness 3. SA vs Vic Metro.

Jagga Smith is more an accumulator, great footy I.Q. in that he has an innate ability to find the football but don't see him being a gamebreaker type. Just my opinion but seems to be a tad selfish.

Each to their own opinion I guess, much quicker on the lead than Fogarty and better follow up once the ball hits the deck, cannot see the Schoenberg reference at all.

He's not fit. Back injury from mid last year until just before season started so he's had no conditioning.

That's why any comparison to Fog isn't reasonable.

Fog also wasn't very good in his draft year
There's a difference between not being match fit and being Schoenberg.
It's a bit concerning.
But also exciting, because if he can tear a game apart at this level looking the way he does, then there is still a huge amount of improvement to come.

Can you explain your Schoenberg reference and how it relates to Welsh? What am I missing here?

He likes too much ice cream when not fit

He needs continuous running to keep the puppy fat off

Thats my take

I hope we get Draper....

Maybe wait until you see Finn O'Sullivan when fit...think Sam Walsh type but better aerially for his size. Currently rehabbing a fractured finger...Country lad from South West Victoria (Koroit).

Edit : Forgot to mention he's actually Sam Walsh's cousin and he was the U16's Nationals M.V.P.

Reckon Smith slides, he’s an old-fashioned midfielder with no significant point of difference.

Todays midfields are all about explosiveness and pace.

Is he a good kick ? We will be right in the hitting zone of Draper in the draft, he’d be our best bit. Being local and not having the chance to leave

Reasonably good but can to rush it occasionally.

Talking good kicks Finn O'Sullivan is as good as any mid in this draft and better than most.

Lol finn o'sullivan. He will be long gone before our pick unless he absolutely stinks up the champs gams he plays when over injury

Lot of movement still to come in the pecking order yet unless you think we're going to get on a roll and win more games than some are predicting on here.

Always our problem. Haven't worked out in 25 years that in the AFL you need multiple high (top 5) picks to get that elite midfield talent.

We had one with 2020 and chose Thilthorpe. Wasn't any obvious mids that year as an anomaly.
Our 2022 pick 5 we gave away to GC.

OSullivan and Smillie are the players we need, but won't have access.
Happy to have Draper but he's not going to be that player I don't reckon.

Sounds like we are trading the pick anyway.

Fog has been playing better more consistent football this year when he’s Been pushing up the ground and linking up between the arcs.

If Welsh can develop into that deeper forward who’s strong on the lead and able to crash some packs as well, then they could complement each others game well.

Throw TT into the mix and hopefully an elusive small forward and we have a great balance in the forward line.

Understand that yet each year a number 1 emerges early and typically stays there. Finn is that guy this year so he'd need to fade badly or someone else would have to burn it up to really change tgat and we are not finishing with picks 1 2 or probably 3
