I’m still surprised at seeing the obsession with high end pace. There aren’t being asked to run at the Olympics.
Can they get possession of the footy
Can they make the right decision
Can they then execute the skill

Draper looks a bit handpass happy to me. Also struggles a bit with kick.

Lalor Smith and Langford the top 3 for me of boys available to choose.

JAGGA FIRMING AS A TOP-FIVE LOCK

Highly-rated Victorian midfielder Jagga Smith is looking increasingly certain to be a top-five draft pick next Wednesday, with Harvey Langford shaping as a potential slider to St Kilda’s first selection.

Smith is believed to have strong interest from Carlton (pick 3), Adelaide (pick 4) and Melbourne (pick 5) and is no longer expected to get past the Demons.

Richmond is still favoured to select Sam Lalor at pick 1 but has also weighed up Finn O’Sullivan.

If I was NM I would be doing everything to convince the Crows that they are going to take a midfielder rather than Tauru. If we’re sure that they go with the tall then we have way more leverage and they probably end up taking that deal. If we are convinced the picks will be Lalor, Smith, Draper then we might well end up doing the F1 for their F2 deal. Big game of poker going on I think.
CROWS : “We are happy with whoever”

North: “We need a mid”.

Crows would be better picking this boy than Draper.

no its clearly too late for that. they have been in negotiations with us and Tiges ONLY as they are telling everyone they are not taking a mid. would be feeble and laughable to turn around and pretend they were going to go a mid now as the horse has bolted

I agree with most of this, however if Reid is a ruthless bastard then why did we roll over so quickly on pick 25 for ANB which would probably have got Dodson, and why are Smith, Schoey. Burgess and Strachan still on our list when none of them are close to our best 22?

Why is it that everyone outside of this board thinks ANB was a steal?

I thought he was probably worth something closer to 30 to 35 - and we got him for 28. Honestly, that's not worth losing sleep over.

Not sure what Reid has to do with Smith's selection - though him staying is frustrating. Schoey, Burgess and Strachan are contracted and that's why they're on our list.

The F3s need to go to Sydney for F2.
4 and F2 then goes to North for 2.

I’m all for that given F3s will be worth nothing in next years draft.

Just don’t want us using F1 and don’t want us selecting Langford.

Take Draper (best option), Lalor or Smith.

Isn’t he list manager? Surely he is wholly responsible for the list. Like the GM in an NFL team.
For the record I think ANB was worth what we paid, however players like Bailey Smith were worth a lot more than Geelong paid so it is possible. If we had tried everything to keep 25, but had to cave at the end I would have no gripe. But when people say Reid is a tough bugger then sorry, I have to disagree.

Dawson is many things, a good forward is not one of them though, IMO he probably goes back behind the ball in 2-3 years time. Curtin certainly looks good, but hes still young.

This guy can play.
I think he’d be a fantastic forward, great mark and kick, but we don’t need him there.

I hope you’re correct about North taking Tauru at 2, as we should stay put at 4 if that’s the case. However I’m not 100% on it, and I get the feeling our team aren’t either.

ok fair enough re your own view but what makes you think our team agrees with that?

If we are the keen on Draper i hope we are working with North melbourne to so a pick swap..
There’s a lot of pre-draft bluffing going on at present ….. SAINTS bluffed the newbie ESS list manager into giving up pick 9 for Fear they would bid on Kako

would you say our picks swaps have been excellent over the years? if not leagues best clearly top quartile. we all know the ones - extra first rounder from GWS from going 4->6, the 2018 Blues deal, getting an extra second rounder a couple of yrs ago. and others

and for players leaving and compo received - ever since Dangerfield which was a different situation and when he was newish (still most ever gained for a FA at the time), and GWS 3 x first rounders for JC being like 14,17 and 20 or similar were almost exactly the same value we recd)

MM - overs
CC - deemed well overs at the time
Lever - deemed well overs at the time

trade ins before this year and even Peatling was a good deal with F2 out and F3/4 IN

Dawson - bargain - Swans spewing
Rankine - fair value. have always maintained he would be our best player and would join Jars and Macca as our most skilled player ever and thrilled to give up pick 5 for such a talent and not stuff around and risk losing him when GC were working so hard on keeping him

who Hamish selected is a different story but Reid has upheld his end of the bargain with leagues best (or very close to) picks swaps and also overall close to best trade INs over a 4 year period for us (best in 30 years)

does Reid not get ANY credit for this work above?
