How did you feel about the Dawson deal?

About Peatling?

I think we were happy to offer 28, didn't want to **** around to get a pick a couple of spots lower, and Melbourne didn't want to fuss around to try and get something better.

So much of trade week is a waste of time, it's good to occasionally see two sides just do the obvious deal.

I understand the frustration that we never seem to get an absolute steal - like Geelong or Richmond ripping off GCS or WCE - but that doesn't mean this was a bad deal.
Personally I don’t care about getting a steal, I care that we mismanaged the list so much that we now have no flexibility in a really deep draft that includes a perfect ruck option for us to nab. Reid has certainly got some things right recently, but it surely can’t be argued that it would be better to draft Dobson this year than keeping Strachan or Burgess.

I have no doubt that we didn’t expect to get Peatling when we agreed to give 25 for ANB, however being able to see and plan for all eventualities is precisely what a list manager should be able to do.

The Mutineer System
WTF are you on about here, I've made it quite clear Lalor and Draper are my 2 preferred in that order now, No 1 because I think Lalor is the best player in this draft and ideally suited to what we need.
Draper whilst he doesn't have the raw power or strength of Lalor he's next best for what I see as our needs, the bonus with Draper as opposed to all the interstate lads is there shouldn't even be a hint of retention issues.

I’ve actually forgotten rules can we trade future picks for future picks during the draft or is there a window coming up ?

Didn’t know that was a thing post trade period

Ie when can we trade 2x future 3rds for a future 2nd ?

We should just tell north to make themselves useful and do it themselves 😂
Yes that would make things a lot easier for us 😂

I didn’t actually know there was a potential rule that disallowed trading future picks for other future picks, I presumed any form of pick trading was allowed on draft night?

I am well aware of your desire for Lalor and Draper

But you also name 100 players each year as ones to watch out for then 12 months later forget 98 and focus on the 2 you got right

Either the most bluffing by clubs or media stabs in a draft I can remember. Probably bit of both…
All of this for us to probably just take Draper at 4 hahah, which id be happy with

What's your problem here?

I post on players I watch in games because some posters don't get to watch U18's games, I've posted previously what players I rate as my top 10, only recent change I've made since is I now have Draper above FOS. Btw it's a pity we don't have more list spots because on what I've seen this year there's going to be some really nice prospects that probably go in the 3rd round onwards.

You could trade picks up until a couple of days ago, I think only 1 trade happened after the trade period. From then to draft night there is an embargo, but on draft night trades can occur again, but are done 'live' as picks come up. In reality clubs have agreed them beforehand eg 'if player x is still available at your pick 2, we'll trade our pick 4 & 2xF3 for your 2'

Knew this. Moreso talking about if we can swap two or three F3’s for an F2 on draft night - i.e. doing a swap with no current draft picks

Who gives a rats who someone supported 33 odd years ago!
Agreed, I supported Carlton back then too. Could not care less about them now. If they have been Crows fans since 1991, they would be the same.

I would assume so, but would have to be part of a wider deal for the current pick in the draft

What clubs are the 2025 3rd round picks we have aligned to?

Unfortunately I dont think we planned on getting either of ANB or Peatling, they just fell into our laps
Clearly a decision was made that, once available, getting them was a higher priority than drafting Dodson for example. There is certainly an argument that this decision in isolation was the correct one.
A better solution would have been to trade/delist players we had originally intended to keep and obtain picks back in this year's draft, and trade in ANB/Peatling. Maybe we did try that, but no one wanted to trade with us, or we couldnt afford the salary cap payout.
Still a very very good offseason so far for us
Plus gameplan and development is now being run by someone that is not Nicks apparently, which may end up being the best thing we've done

So unless GWS fall off a cliff and the Dees have another season from hell they would likely be later 3rd rounders.
Both teams lost talent considerable best 22 players. Greene and Cogs aren’t getting any younger, Petracca and Oliver’s production level next year is up in the air

I don’t think they’re guaranteed to be late picks, but yeah they probably won’t be early in the order either

That is a bit unfair
I rate Mutineer’s thoughts over so many years ( aka Bicks )
He has always been very front up on his talent ID IMO
Its not unfair.

I also appreciate his thoughts but given the quote by Scorpus it seemed an appropriate comment

But there is also a tendency at future times for him to pull out the '' I rated this kid'' 2-3 years later without mentioning the busts - which was the tenor of the original post by Scorp

Its a joke that some appreciated but obviously some didnt - we move on
