You are genuinely asking a lot from the AFC especially given our history. :$
Think Reid is calm so long as those above him don't unduly influence him.

Reckon he has learnt the Gibbs lesson.

It's due diligence to speak to all potential top end draftees.

The Blues would have numerous talks with all possibles.
I would be very disappointed if we havent had talks with all the Top 5 mids in this draft.

Blues board as of today, seem aligned to the fact they are most likely taking Smith.
Think very likely Blues end up with Smith.

Only spanner in the works is if Richmond took Smith with pick #1.

Then we would be jumping to move to #2 right?
If we rate Lalor significantly higher than Draper... perhaps, but Roos likely to want too much.

No kidding.

They also spoke to him at the combine but coach meet and greets with family means he's in their discussions big time.

Im not opposed to us using F3's, yes it may/is wasteful but it gives us security to land our preferred first option.

Im opposed to giving up anything more though.

Yeah, no kidding.

So many were freaking out that Voss speaking to Draper means he is Carlton's preference... when all it means is he is one of the players they are doing their due diligence on.

You are are the one reposting the Voss catch up, which is why I'm reposting don't assume this means Carlton are prioritising Draper.

Carlton likely prefer Smith, but need to have fall back plans in place if he goes pick 1.

wait, now I'm confused.

Are saying that the interest in Smith is a bluff by Adelaide, or did we reveal our real interest in Smith to get carlton to reveal their real interest in Smith?

We didn't reveal anything. Nobody from the club said a thing about moving up to pick 2 or their interest in Smith. It's all just media clickbait in the lead up to the Draft and most on BF fall for it hook, line and sinker.

I was told a few months ago by those that do physicals with draftees that our preference was for one of the Vic mids (they wouldn't say who) but it was likely they'd go before our pick 4. Those doing the testing said we are happy to take Draper at 4. That was a month ago...things could change.

I am not quite sure that I go along with our interest in trading up to pick 2 being misinformation to show Carlton we are interested in Jagga, or whatever.

The only reason to spread misinformation is to try to influence another party to do something that suits you.

At the top end of this draft, Richmond can do what they want, so they have no reason to spread misinformation. North Melbourne can do what they want subject to Richmond's pick (which realistically will be what it will be regardless of what North do), so they don't have much reason to spread misinformation either.

Now for Carlton, their risks are that Richmond take the guy they want, or North Melbourne take the guy they want, or North Melbourne trade their pick to someone who takes the guy they want. Realistically there's no way they can influence Richmond. But they might be able to influence North Melbourne. Wouldn't leaking their interest in the player who most would assume is the target of North Melbourne's most natural trading partner be a good way to make that trade more likely?

In other words, I suspect Carlton's alleged interest in Draper is a ruse. They want us to panic and trade up to pick 2 to get Draper, because they don't actually want to pick Draper themselves. Carlton thinks North Melbourne are more likely to take Carlton's man than the Crows are.

I'm not saying Carlton don't rate Draper at all. Just that I think they are happy for us to get up to 2 and take him because they are looking elsewhere at 3 - and they think that if North Melbourne (or Richmond) are picking at 2, they might lose their target. On that basis I suspect Carlton really want FOS (although I would defer to C4[2]Yo`DooR).

For us though, what advantage do we get by telegraphing (whether correctly or falsely) our interest in trading up for Jagga? Does it actually achieve anything for anyone to know that? Either we pick at 2 and pick who we want there, or we pick at 4 and pick who we want there, but we are not in a position to be influencing anything that happens ahead of us.

So I suspect that our interest in trading up to 2 is real. For who, I don't know. But increasingly it's feeling like Draper or Jagga for us.
My reading of the tea leaves is most clubs seem to have FOS at pick 2 ( including possibly us )

That’s who I think it might have been for

You wouldn’t think we’d need to get to 2 for Draper and if we had smith and Draper pretty even we wouldn’t really need to get to 2 in that scenario only

So trading up to 2 would be for FOS seems most logical

Hope we don’t though

Where did I say Carlton was priortising Deaper exactly?

All I basically said was their coach going out of his way to fly over to SA for a family meet and greet would indicate their player wan't set in sone at that point to go to that much effort that late in the piece. Everyone is guessing.

Seems a lot of effort if it's a ruse to fly Michael Voss and the recruiting team over to SA for a meet and greet with the Draper family? I think their interest is very real but that doesn't mean he's a lock either?

Think that would just be pretty standard at this time of year if they had Draper in their mix

Do you think we would overlook Draper for FOS at Pick 4, should he slide?

Where did I say you were?!

I said plenty on this board (didn't say you!) Were freaking out that the Blues wanted Draper after the Voss news.

Just go back & read this thread.

It's not always about you. ;)

I think the likely order is close to set, but the Blues are preparing like all clubs for a spanner in the works. Eg. Richmond select Smith instead of Lalor at #1.

Yes I do

But it’s looking increasingly likely all clubs have FOS in top 2
Given FOS closeness with those at the Blues, doubt he is sliding lower than #3, if Roos go the Tauru route.

agreed C4 is a champ (assuming not working as a Double Agent  )

C4[2]Yo`DooR is a Crows supporter. :$

Strong agree , can’t actually see him get past 2 anymore
So likely excluding Ashcroft
1 Lalor
2 FOS
3 Smith
4 Draper

If Richmond mix things up taking Smith...
1 Smith
2 Lalor
3 FOS
4 Draper

If Roos prefer Tauru
1 Lalor
2 Tauru
3 FOS ? Over Smith
4 Draper ? Over Smith

Most scenarios i think we should be able to pick Draper, unless Carlton prefer him over Smith, then we get Smith.

Can't see how we can lose.
