what are you basing Hewitt so high on? how he performed in the u16s?

There is another QLD ruck/forward in Gillett that is far more advanced, and probably has more upside.

Does anyone have footage of the QLD vs Vic C u17 game?
Gillett I've seen half a dozen times, he's slow and barely gets involved, could he eek out a career? Maybe? But I try to look for the best talent, not who could eek out a role player career

As for Hewitt, I liked what I saw, I saw a 198cm kpf/ruck who impacted the play positively on most occasions, a contested mark(can mark on the goal line and under pressure), a guy who seemed competent if not dominant in both roles as kpf and ruck, decent hit out technique, seemed to move well on field ect, also he scored well in my way of scoring players, Will he continue to perform? I'm not sure, but if he does he will be a highly valued commodity.

and yes State Level Rep footy is where the cream rises and the bad sink, imo champs footy is more important of a metric than state league footy.

It's a reasonable question though. Hewitt playing u16 footy when he's 17, while Gillett was performing equally well in u18 footy, if not better and is the same age.

I imagine if Gillett went back and played in the u16 carnival, he would have absolutely dominated - but he was already well past that. Gillett sure as hell isn't slow, in the game vs Vic country there is a time when he crumbs a ground ball on D50, hands off and gets the overlap hands through the middle, and then gives off again while running full pace that lead to a goal. not many blokes 200cm+ can do that. He also kicked a 55m set shot, that was pretty impressive.

Good job putting together this list but there are quite a few guys in that list that are no chance. For some reason the u16 selectors went mad on sub 180cm mids, thus kids who are done growing, are balanced and zoom around a footy field. There are heaps of kids I’ve seen who will displace these kids over the next 12 months if the microcosm of my local Coates League team is anything to go by.

Interesting Twomey stating clubs see the current top 10 of 2024 as a weak one.

He described it as having "no star factor"

With clubs actively looking at trading 2024 R1 picks into 2023 because of it.

Certainly a difference of opinion with most on here and vs some of the underage performances.

I reckon Lombard will go higher than pick 20. He was exceptional against Vic Country last weekend.

he was the best player on the ground from either side in my view.
I've made a few edits to my list, I think I put him at 12 now? I also liked Nancarrows game, good work ethic from Marshall, with Hewitt also showing good signs imo, for Vic Country Ivisic, Travaglia, Hynes, Warburton and Faull playing well all game and props to Whitlock for that big mark and goal after the siren to win it for Country, a lot of big names missing for Country, but it was a good close game.

I also made a few edits dropping Unwin and Langford down a few places as they didn't perform at a higher level(state rep footy)

Been rewarded with a VFL debut this weekend at just 16 years of age. Definitely one to keep an eye on.

Meanwhile, the Lions are flying Riley Greene (22) to Melbourne to be a travelling emergency in the VFL and likely sit out of footy, while Sam Marshall is in Melbourne and part of their academy and played Allies this year, surely he could be the emergency and get a development opportunity?

Marshall's playing with Sandy today, better to just give him the guaranteed game time

Thommo 42 point is that his QAFL club needs Greene in the seniors today, but he’s flying down to be an emergency with the Lions VFL team.

Hard when players are serving two masters.

Not so much that we need him, obviously he is best 22, but our fixture was a dead rubber. But he's been out for close to 15 weeks with an injury that was grossly mismanaged by the Lions (just like last year) then after letting us run his rehab, we got him up and going, and now when fit and ready to play, he was potentially sitting out a weekend of footy. (though he did end up playing, so no biggy)

Would be absolutely shocked if Woods nominates AFL and isn't snapped up by a league team

Watched Oakleigh v Gippsland. Was half way to Morwell so made the additional 30min drive. Shocking conditions, blowing a massive westerly straight across the ground and made for a scrappy game. Focusing on Oakleigh bottom agers. Retschko, Finn, Jagger and Tom Gross all very good through the midfield. Charlie Richardson along with Jagger and Tom Gross all kicked 2 goals each. Charlie and Tom both dropped long bombs defying the hurricane wind to get the win. Retschko on the stats had 41. Those numbers may have been padded a bit by kick ins and rushed disposals in the mass of contests that took place. However he was really good, ran hard and created.

Edps had mentioned Retschko being injured for the u16 champs, saw him recently playing for VM and he played def and some mid, looks very talented, clean disposal, good decision making skills, good footy iq, moves well, good size, i threw him in the list, but 1 that could rise after seeing a few more games, good to see him continue his good form though.
