Our biggest weaknesses were only going to be addressed during the trade period its difficult to gut the list that made a GF(yes i know im sick of this phase).
No KPF
No inside mid (outside some hope for Dattoli)
No bigger contested KPD
No actual small defender
We got Riak and we at least got a medium forward. That's the positives.
And now leaving it up to the rookie draft.
Grade: D
Yep. We really needed a bigger KPD, someone who could play on the 200cm key forwards who are becoming more and more common these days.
We had the option to take Armstrong too, who likely would have helped our forward line a great deal but we did not take him.
For what year?
I think it's pretty obvious the new list manager Keane thinks our list is great the way it is with no glaring holes. And happy for us to get smashed in another GF.
In terms of the quality of the players we drafted, who knows, as like you said we won't know for a few years. In terms of drafting for needs we failed miserably and I think we can say that right now.
I remember when Sydney smoked the draft with Dylan Stephens and Will Gould.
They say the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, but the second best time to plant a tree is today.
We didn't pick up a big KPD in this draft, so it is going to be the end of 2025 when we will again need a big KPD and people will be saying "but we need the player now"
If we drafted a big KPD back in 2022 then we would be much better off now, but we didn't, and if we keep putting it off because we need a KPD now and a player we draft will need a few years to develop then we are never getting a KPD.

I think Dattoli will be good, but we could have used existing options and used the pick elsewhere.
The Bice pick, I'd like to know which list they think they are managing.

Edwards would have to stand up who is 197cm our tall beefy defender

Got one out of four that I felt we needed. Two defenders unless we want to use Riak as a third tall forward. No KPF when they were there for the taking. A slender marking medium forward when I was hoping for someone more robust. No midfielder. I never imagined that the recruiters and I were on the same wavelength but now I'm certain of it.
The only one I can visualise playing seniors next year or 2026 is Dattoli.

It seems that there is a lot of discontent with our picks. Why don't we wait until they have a few games before we make a decision on whether they are ok or not. Reserves games I mean. Maybe about 20 games in we will know who has the goods and who doesn't.
