GWS picks.

I wonder who gws would be jumping up for since they have 15, and who they don’t expect to be there.

In isolation I don’t mind that pick swap, but can’t see shanahan lasting to 16 so I’m not sure if we should do that if we want a kf.

After the 2 highest rated kpf I’m not sure there’s as much between the rest.

Ie if I can have one Whitlock or 2 of sims , west Nicholls barrat ofarrell etc with later picks the second option sounds better.
Sorry to intrude but thought id give my view on this

I firmly believe GWS would have their eye on Berry & Hotton or Travaglia
But Berry would be my guess and the chance he would be still available at #15 would be low with fremantle desperate for a good small foward like Berry that suits them perfectly and have pick #14 so GWS would want to get just ahead on draft night.

Would make sense, it would be interesting to see how this pans out because if Freo really want Berry they may give up 14 and 30 for 13 only

Think Luke Trainor is there at 21.

Concussion is an issue that will push him down the order.

Alex Dodson is there but no mention of him?

Kayle Gerreyn is there

Taj Hotton may be there?

When do you bid on Malakai Champion?

It's an incredibly good pick up for nothing or a couple of concussions away from a waste.

It's about the mark he's just too talented to not take the risk.
My personal view is that the club won't take such a risk when we have Todd Marshall on our list who could have his career wiped out in the space of 30 seconds. While I do rate Trainor, and without the concussions, I think he's a top 10 pick, I would be surprised if we picked him.

Is there a universe where you could turn picks 16 and 21 into Shanahan and Hynes?
Pick 16 and 21 becomes 19 and 24. I don't see a universe where Shanahan is available at 19. Hynes yes. If we picked him as Dattoli using those picks (assuming Shanahan isn't available) it would be a good start to our draft

I would think if we were willing to trade back we will be taking one of the talls - Shanahan / Whitlock / Faull. I wouldn't expect us to go tall again at 21, especially if we are keen on players like Hannaford and Oliver.

If someone ridiculous fell down the rankings like Smillie as per Goodoil's phantom draft, then there would be no trade. Probably the same for Armstrong and possibly Shanahan depending how good their intel is on Freo.

Remembering GWS and Freo would both still have picks before 16, although you think we would have a guarantee from GWS who they were taking at 15.

I don't think I could do it and I really love Trainor.

You'd have to have his health records or personally test him out because there is still a lot of talent at 21 without those types of issues.

If its not Shanahan or Reid, we have to trade back. Whitlock is a big question and Faull for me, in the long term, will be a Dixon type player and I'm sick of the bombing entries. Nothing against Faull as a player I think he's a good prospect. Whitlock I just have big question marks on.

I'm not kidding when I say Gerreyn is a better fit for us than Whitlock and Faull. He fits a forward role with ruck time. I don't mind Faull as a prospect, just think under Ken he'll have his confidence shot inside 2 weeks.

That's a consideration for me, that Hinkley has not been able to get the tall timber draftees up and running.

Shanahan is a natural footballer and doesn't need to be coached to be good. He's already excelling against AFL seconds in the VFL.

The thing that Gerreyn has is that he can play ruck.

If we pick Shanahan, we might with the two rucks and it wouldn't bother me if Esava played the ruck, up and back fill up tall utility role off the bench with a player like Gerreyn waiting in the wings.

Shock, horror, two 200cm key position players what are we doing.
That's the issue

It's 2 200cm prospects who would be picked based on the fact that they were dominant in their junior levels because of their height. Do they have the other skills needed to make it at AFL? I'm not so sure about that

That's the gamble you take. Most players that have been mentioned around our draft range have questions about them, unfortunately that cant be really assessed until they have been developed and exposed at AFL level. In the case of the Whitlock brothers I am not as negative about there long term prospects as some on our board. However they will take time and wont be the immediate walk in impact players that some are hopeful for.

I like the look of Faull, big powerful kid, has forward craft and less exposed form than the other talls who are getting talked about more. If we dropped back a couple of spots and drafted him, I don't think we would be losing much if anything if it's one of the tall forwards we want.
