FYI

Will add a 2024 NAB Draft & Trade tracker thread, stickied.

Tag me when we have a confirmed trade/draft and I will update the thread accordingly

He had a day out against us in the VFL. I wonder where he would fit in at AFL level wether it's wing or half forward or medium/pseudo-tall forward.
It would be interesting were Sam would fit in at AFL level kind of surprised Richmond didn’t take him in the Mid - Season draft

Any chance we use the Bailey Smith pick to move up in the draft and get Trainer? It looks like he will slip to early teens.

This was Reported by Josh Gabelich on SEN Sportsday that we interested in Sam Davidson from Richmond VFL side. GWS and Collingwood are the other two clubs that like the lad

Interesting.

Decent history of that Fothergill-Round-Mitchell Medal winner (VFL most promising player) adapting to AFL level.

Oh man I just got flashbacks to picking up Tom Davidson in 2006 thinking he'd solve our tall forward problems!

I think he could given the popularity of small forwards these days and given his last month or so of footy. I wouldn't have him in the first 18 or so picks, I think he could go anywhere after that as it's still very even and open still. He should test well at the state combine for both pace and agility which will help also. I imagine he will at least be top 10 for pace, maybe agility as well.

This is what his coach said at the bottom.

We say: While he is a handy player at either end, Hannaford has jumped up in draft calculations since switching from halfback to half-forward in the second half of the year. He kicked a bag of five goals against Oakleigh in round 18 and stood out with six goals in the a quarter-final win over Geelong.

They say: “This kid can just play both ends. He’s got such high end speed, such quick reactions off the mark. He’s so powerful and aggressive. His forward pressure’s A-grade, it’s elite, but he can also hit the scoreboard.” – Rebels coach David Loader
He screams bolter to me. I wouldn't be pinning my hopes on him being available where he's currently being rated, and also wouldn't be surprised if he does go first round.

Is Datoli that mid/fwd hybrid we're looking for?

Going early 2nd round on most draft boards.

He does look like a bulldogs type in the manner in which he plays. Good hands in tight, good in contest (at least for an outside type), likes to take the tackler on, has high football IQ rather then raw athleticism. My only concern with it is, I think we need to find players with more athleticism in particular pace and Dattoli doesn't look overly quick.

The thing I do like about Oliver is that hurt factor. He doesn't get alot of it but doesn't waste anything either. It is a similar trait to Richards early days, he'd struggle to have more then 15 touches off halfback/wing but they were all meaningful. If he can improve his production whilst maintaining the defensive intent and impact per possession he will be a serious player.
IIRC Bont averaged less than 15 disposals in his top aged year

He barely played midfield, it was one of the reasons he was considered a bit of a risk IIRC.
He was certainly a bolter based on last season form.
Ditto Oliver who didn't even pay mid year champs but went at pick 4.

I suspect Harvey Langford gets the same treatment this year. He's a genuine "follow me" player who will win games himself. I think he has to be in pick 1 contention now, I rate him that highly.

You like him a lot? From what I’ve caught on YouTube I have only seen him really do a lot of his best work up forward
In Nationals, he generally plays forward

But for Rebels he's their number 1 inside mid

Has Patrick Cripps ability with his tackling and contested ball IMO

Pretty sure Lalor will go to crows if they don't get draper. I'm hoping Geelong can work a top 10 pick out of another club for Smith. They seem to know how. Really need to work amiably with the club and not try and play face off on the deal so both clubs walk away happily. Maybe team up on saints for their pick 7.

Going to be difficult to get into the top 10 think
First rounders that should in theory be gettable are
GC 12 (our old pick)
Brisbane 15+
maybe Freo 10 or 16

Keeping in mind all of those picks will push 1 to 4 places out. Depending on where bids come for Ashcroft, Lombard, Kako and possible Battle compo pick

realistically best case scenario I think we'd be looking at getting into the draft around pick 12-13 at best which is actually a bit of an awkward spot in the draft for us. Think I'd probably rather use 2 picks in the late teens/early 20s

If the AFL give saints band 1 compo I think they wont trade it. 7&8 lets saints take a risk like last time they had 2 picks together. So Reid & Trainor. As opposed to getting 21 which they might trade up for a pick to secure 1 of hotton or lindsay.
If they trade 7 back for a 16 15 17 etc they could probably go in on 3 players and sweep out with a good group of kids. I think SOS would take a deal to trade back if it meant he can secure another F1.

I’ve seen about 3 different mock drafts this week (TrueFooty, PominOz, etc) all have us picking up Hotton with our first.

Apparently he was a top 5 prospect before doing an ACL and doesn’t want to leave Victoria which has him sliding to our pick. Would be a very good, fortunate pick up.

Hotton does fit us perfectly. And is a top tier talent. Would be stoked to net him.

He's the 2nd most talented player in this draft behind O'Sullivan IMO. Still find it hard to believe he'll be there late in the first round where we probably have a pick. I think Richmond will pick him, perfect replacement for Bolton.
