FYI

Will add a 2024 NAB Draft & Trade tracker thread, stickied.

Tag me when we have a confirmed trade/draft and I will update the thread accordingly

Well, this happened. Not the way Mojorisin predicted, but still... :'(
GWS pretty much had the draft that I wanted us to have. They got two classy players who can impact in the forward half of the ball, and a good ball using small with leadership skills off the back line. All have at least decent to good pace.

Meanwhile, for all the talk of injecting class and pace into the squad. Gut feels tell me we will fall short and be stuck with guys with questionable kicking or lack of pace for the most part. I liked the Hynes pick for where we were pick wise though, as others mentioned would have been reaching.

Also I don't know why we have links to so many guys who are around the 190cm mark. We need to be getting smaller, not taller. Otherwise we will be in trouble for the ground ball game. Which is why I prefer Moraes or Gross. But Moraes has questionable defensive game, and no offense, but half our team half ass it defensively as it is. Gross just likes to belt the ball forward instead of lowering the eyes, despite his hard nut and explosive game style which I like. Boxshall plays too safe with his kicks and takes the short and easy options. But could be a decent winger if he can exploit his height marking wise, and can deliver long kicks. Davis, has questions on pace and kicking action. But his footy IQ is good, which can compensate.

It will be a matter of who the club feels they can get the best out of, and if the club feels like can iron out their weaknesses, or improve them athletically.

Class and pace are great, but so is grunt and Hynes can deliver that in spades.

Already mentioned I liked the Hynes pick for that reason in a few posts. Hynes was the right player for pick 17 (21). We would have reached a little to much if we went for our other links at 21 instead.

Just saying the other players we are linked to for tonight, all have strengths, but some obvious weaknesses. The club will have to navigate which fits into our system and game style the best.

I think we go one of Moraes/Boxshall, one of Davis/Gross. And target a HB type with our 4th pick. I'd love Clarke, but we will need another pick in the 30s to have a decent shot at getting 3 of the 5. Alger seems another popular option on here as well.

With Hynes. And the links to Alger, Gross, and Davis. It shows the club definitely considers players who can play in the forward half of the ground a priority, over just pure outside types.

If Oliver or Hannaford was available, I think those would have been good reaches to make. Unfortunately GWS had to be GWS.

Fox article says both Essendon and Gold Coast are floating future firsts to move up. Would be a little disappointed if we didn't exploit one of those for our pick 29
I don’t understand, you should have the favour over Richmond cause you can send a future second round pick back to us, they don’t have a future second or third pick ?

They may improve their offer. Don't believe we want to give up anything in next years draft.
I mean the original offer that you mentioned had us giving up just a F3, which will be crap house pick in a very compromised draft. So not sure why we would be bothered about giving that one up if it meant getting a F2 or F1 back.

No point doing the trade with us if Tigers take the target a pick earlier.
I assume it’s either Shanahan or Whitlock?

I am guessing it comes down to this move. If the Tigers, or someone else getting and using that Tigers pick. Takes the one who is in bigger demand, then teams will not offer us much to trade up. But if someone takes the other less in demand player, or neither of the two, then our phone will possibly ring hot?

I'd imagine if they gave up one of the F1s we'd be more inclined to move on the F3 but for the F2 that was offered dogs were only prepared to send 29.

Yes these deals are always conditional, we had a more favourable deal lined up with Fremantle but their target must've gone last night.

Almost as good as 'WTF did we pick that guy? Sack Power. What are we even doing? We're a joke'.

Love it.

I just did a search to see if anyone has been saying that and it turns out the last three posts on our board using “sack Power” have all been by you dating back to 17 October lol

That would make sense

Both teams have declined the Bombers offer.
We are probably waiting to see if Essendon pop their heads over the parapet with a Future 1st somehow involved. Given we have a second pick straight after West Coast we should absolutely be seeing if we can max value something here. I’d still like Moreas or Davis but they’ll take a tall for sure.

Thats the thing, we can be relatively confident the team trading for the pick is targeting a KPP, so there’s a strong chance one of our top 2 targets will still be there at 31.

If you had a choice, which F1 do you take:

Melb
Collingwood
GC
Essendon
Port Adelaide
Geelong

All could arguably get tabled in a pick swap scenario as GC want back in and Geelong and Essendon will be eying the talls available early on tonight.
