I don't think we would have made it - injuries to Day and Frost happened at the wrong time and as good as the depth players performed the squad wasn't strong enough across the park to absorb that.

It's all good - I loved this season. I would have backed us against Brisbane as well - but not Sydney in the prelim.

Got to really hand it to Brisbane. They were gone mid season when we beat them, so to claw their way back and win their way through to the GF is an impressive effort. Likewise Swans. Though unbeatable the first two thirds of the season they were on the ropes and getting smashed by everyone only a few weeks ago. Got no idea who will win but really looking forward to this game

I honestly wonder how much effort the umps are putting into awarding the votes, they have really phoned it in the last five years or so.

Sure Cripps is a star but to say he is that much better than the rest of the competition which the umps are indicating by their voting just seems ridiculous to me TBH.

The easiest Brownlow fix for me is not giving the umpires the player stats before they make their vote. That way forwards and defenders who’ve had an impact on the game won’t get ignored.

Cripps and Daicos were polling votes in games where their possession count was in the teens, disposal efficiency of 14% and getting subbed out mid game through injury, whilst Bontepelli had games where he had 30+ touches, 10 coaches votes and didn’t get anything.

Not sure this can be fixed.
