Weird names being thrown up as to which Brisbane player we would want, I'd have thought McCluggage was the obvious choice if we were just plucking players that would suit us

Sure - but there’s zero chance the Lions would ever trade him.

Swans considering offering up their 2 x end of 1st rounders (currently 19 & 22) for suns pick 13.. doubt Suns take this deal given how desperate other clubs are for the pick.. but does this open up the way forward for Barrass deal given Eagles reportedly after "2x1st rounders"?

G'day Hawkers, here checking out the Mitch Lewis rumour, had been really hoping we give our young ruckman Smith more of a run and restructure, so fed up with hearing about all the delisted players we need to bring in, but if the Lewis trade happened am sure would get on board with it.

IMO the only way we could make it happen would be a player swap, we don't currently have enough points to bring Ashcroft and Sam Marshall (academy kid in - Bog in under 18 GF) this year, so need to turn pick 20 into more points as it is.

With the revision to the academy discounts next year really need to keep next year's first to bring another academy kid called Annable in (projecting as a 1st rounder at this stage) so basically certainly don't have the draft currency to get any deal done.

I love Bailey and all our players (we've just won a flag) Zorko and Lester getting on but both expected to hold their place next year, lost Joe, but Levi Ashcroft, Kiddy Coleman and Linc McCarthy should be pressing for places in the team this year, so maybe there is a premiership lion looking to return to Melbourne?

If so you guys would be one of the first teams they'd want to play for!

The 'steak knife' or fringe type players who are AFL standard on are list are Dev Robertson (linked to Eagles), Prior (linked to Essendon) Bruce Reville showed promised this year but the team getting harder to crack into, Darcy Garndiner but probably wrong age profile for your list, also have Doedee another two time acl victim in the wings but clearly a big question mark there.

Have a great summer and good luck with your exciting team next year.. :)

You choose to play Eric Hipwood

Jog on
That's premiership player Eric Hipwood to you.

Lewis will miss half the season when we need some immediately. Why would we give up so much in that situation when we can get a 1 year stop gap then target someone who will actually stay on the field.

You don't win Premierships in the first half of a season. You'd think with the kind of season the Lions had, a Lions fan would know this. This is exactly why everyone here thinks you're a dickhead.

Lewis should be worth Barrass and extra. Lewis is more than 3 years younger, and a good Key Forward is much harder to find than a Key Defender.

We're short on list spots. Could be used to build our draft capital in 2025.

Just give Brisbane the number to the Eagles' List Manager. They can fix up the Eagles for Barrass, and find us a F2 pick.
Devon Robertson could be that F2?

We've developed a different style up forward because Mitch is missing. Just because he comes back doesnt mean we are going to change that. But it means we have the option of being more conventional at times. I would definitely keep him rather than trade him. We were a poster from playing in a grand final this year. To be honest we probably have a list to challenge with no additions. The fact we are bringing in two solid tall defenders opens up all sorts of possibilities. Id be quite happy to give our first for barras and then just take our second into the draft and see.what we get

We have heaps of our own fringe players who are AFL standard. I don't think we need any of your older players (or at least any who would be a fair trade for Lewis). Morris would address a need and is the right age but I would be hanging on to him.

play Hipwood as your main key next year

Do it

See how that goes

I wouldn't give up 1 first round for lewis let alone 2 or any of our premiership players. You fellas are dreaming.
We've got more than enough horseshit here...but it's OUR horseshit.

Go away.

If Lewis is unhappy with the way his knee issue was handled then it doesn’t mean he’s unhappy with the coaches and players etc., so not really sure where this is all coming from. He seems to be happy at the club and doing everything he can to ace his recovery

Unless Brisbane drastically overpay no way would I trade Mitch.

Scaife doesn't look like an AFL key forward to me, Gunston has one more year left, Sicily wants to stay down back long term.

Leaves us with only Chol & Dear long term.

Way too thin at a time when we are competing for flags.
Definitely too thin up forward as was experienced in our backline when we lost Frosty. Battle & Barrass should rectify that backline problem but with the added bonus of Battle being able to play forward as too with Sicily & Dimma. We got lucky with Calsher coming on this year & competing like he did otherwise I doubt we would have made the finals or got close to it.

It is interesting when looking at Mitch Lewis vs Joe Daniher when Brisbane picked him up as a RFA

Mitch Lewis currently 25 but will be 26 headed into next season, Daniher was 27 in the 2021 season (his first at Brisbane)

In 8 years at Essendon Daniher played 108 games and kicked 191 goals. Lewis has played 70 games over 7 years and has kicked 125 goals

Where it’s interesting though is in his last three years at Essendon Daniher only played 15 games total and kicked 18 goals. In comparison Lewis has played 34 games for 78 goals over the last 3 years

Daniher was a RFA and Essendon got pick 7 when they didn’t match the bid

So the advantage for Brisbane was that Daniher was a free agent and they didn’t need to trade anything but also shows they gave a high contract at the time for a guy coming off 3 years of injuries so trading for a guy coming off an ACL wouldn’t be outside the question

If Lewis wanted to leave the Giants would he the team to deal with… As they are loaded with draft picks and have Max Gruzewski.
Why would they want Lewis though? Cadman coming, Hogan, Riccardi, Brown etc not exactly a position of need

Plus would need enough cap space to turn Lewis’ head

Seemingly Brisbane has known for 12 months that Daniher might be retiring so there should be contingencies in place for them now would think. At least conversations would have been had already
