Agree majority of finals are won when the ball hits the groundReid yes, whoever is paying that for Darcy is kidding themselves.
Yes he's talented, but I think recent years have shown you don't need a ~$1.5m a year forward to win flags. Better spread across your whole forward line and a good mix of talent smalls and stalls.
Morris on SEN suggesting you’d need to offer $20mill for 12yrs to get Reid or Darcy.
The times are changing.
And some very good assistant coaches who put a lot of that game plan they had in action.Wouldn't have won any without Dusty. So to do it again, he would need to find another Dusty.
AFL will pay him $1m a year in ambassador money to get him up there. It's sickening. Not Hawthorn related, but Dustin Martin is currently up in the Gold Coast area, 'catching up' with Hardwick.
I’m shocked to be sitting here. Not Hawthorn related, but Dustin Martin is currently up in the Gold Coast area, 'catching up' with Hardwick.
The kid is 20, he's earning a crazy amount of coin.
If he's getting everything he wants from life playing at the Gold Coast how is that a bad thing?
We knew this and we knew what we were getting. It isn't right now.
I'll call it.
If he continues to mix with certain people, and keep doing the same things off-field, plus adding in his well known temper....then in the next couple of years,if he doesn't grow up, this could well be Tarryn Thomas Mk 2.
He might be good for Gold Coast, but The Gold Coast has all the ingredients to be very bad for him.
I hope he sorts his life out, before he takes a very wrong turn.
Not if he’s on the DGB diet.I think Darcy will be a monster in a couple of years. Very hard to stop because he won't get pushed out of the way
Yep, at this stage Darcy still has a long way to go to be better than Ben Brown. Let alone some of the other KPF's of the previous and current eras, like Reiwold x 2, Lynch, Hawkins, Kennedy. Curnow, McKay, Hogan, Larkey. It’s hard to get a good idea of how good he is when he’s sharing a forward line with 2 other KPFs who play like they are the main target.
Wow, who didn’t see that coming …

Chol as mentor? We knew this and we knew what we were getting.
I believe he would still need to be traded, much like Hodge was when he "retired" and then went to Brisbane.I thought it was against the rules. He was contracted still.
Not if he's contracted.I'm pretty sure Dusty is unrestricted, so can leave with no trade. Most of his $ you suspect will be ambassador based.

Footywire.com has him out of contract right nowNot if he's contracted.
This is one of the better post I've read on this forum. The number of fans stuck on the idea we need to remain loyal to every player on our list whilst we still have holes to fill is beyond belief. This is the draft for us to fill our KPF needs and the only better solution than that would be to trade for already established power forwards. Shanahan and Gerreyn for mine...So seriously on Ward where does he fit? Day Newk Worpel are first 3, Nash Mackenzie McDonald would seem next 3 with Moore Weddle Watson the chop outs. Wings seem to be CJ and D’Ambrosio with Weddle and Amon the covers.
We have to be realistic and also focus on how to improve the list balance. What are our gaps? KPF seems like #1 3rd forward seems like #2 think we are set for small forwards and defenders. If players like Ward Maginness Serong allow us to acquire those positions you have to consider it at a minimum. This draft has several promising forwards that go between 10-40 getting 2 with second rounders seems to make sense.
Players like Shanahan Sims Faull Gerryn would fit the bill nicely.
