Yep, as I said earlier, I distinctly remember very similar kneejerk objections to Burger, Goo, Lake, Hale, Gibbo, Big Boy…………Some posters want to win flags, and others would prefer to win trade week.
Had we listened to BF in the early 10s, I hate to think how much success we would have missed out on.
Serong is more surplus to needs than Reeves though. There was a whisper late last year they were interested, then nothing. Who knows. He is surplus to our needs given our gameplan has changed, but still has value given the lack of rucks in the league
Once again I find myself stoked out of my mind that BF posters are not Hawthorn recruiters or list managers. People talking themselves in circles trying to talk themselves out of grabbing Barrass have NO idea.
If a player of his calibre and profile drops into your lap, you fall all over yourself grabbing him.
Prefer to go with Hawks List Management folk.We didn’t over pay for Guerra Lake Hale or Gibbo. All those trades were fair or in our favour (particularly Lake). Burgoyne is the outlier and he justified the two first rounders but for every Burgoyne you have an Omeara and Wingard who we almost definitely squandered a lot of opportunities and success by drafting. Big Boy the sentiment was very much that it was absurd that we received only pick 19 for Franklin which wasn’t enough for the trade and we had to throw in Savage. Debating whether the trade is reasonable is not an unhealthy thing to do. Lots of clubs over pay for players and screw themselves. There are many examples I can think of: Beams, Gibbs, Weller, Grundy, Kelly, Croad, Fevola, Polek (off the top of my head. Feel free to add). There are literally too many to list. So to portray people that object to overpaying for a player as naysayers and fools is extremely arrogant.
It was I that made the suggestion of pick 13, F2 + Reeves for Barrass + F3. This would be my max offer for him and the only reason I mentioned it was after all the 2 x first rounder talk which I am against. I think it's paramount that we keep our hands on our F1.What's all this about 13 F1 F2 Reeves and Sicily's wife for Barrass. Just give then Ned Reeves and show them the first quarter of the Geelong game where he did his shoulder. Geelong didn't touch the ball for the first several minutes such was his dominance.
Ding ding ding! Congratulations Seysearles on officially sparking the 1000th revisiting of the Chad Wingard and Jaeger O'Meara trades on this board! We didn’t over pay for Guerra Lake Hale or Gibbo. I very early in piece mentioned our 2024 1st + Reeves and I got shot down for it. Do really think Reeves will be the only steak knives that is needed? Well I guess he is a bloody big 210cm steak knifeSerong is more surplus to needs than Reeves though.
It will be one or the other headed west with our first, I assume.
Barrass for 2024 1st or walk. Nothing else. Don’t listen to these media parrots or west coast. They’ll come knocking at the 11th hour for sure. They want him off their books. If they don’t blink then good on them and they can keep him. More than happy to load up the backline with Battle and Serong as depth and go to the draft and get a gun forward or mid with that juicy first rounder. Happy days.

10 years from now he will still be talking about it. The boy is just risk averse. He just doesn't want to take any risksDing ding ding! Congratulations Seysearles on officially sparking the 1000th revisiting of the Chad Wingard and Jaeger O'Meara trades on this board!
There’s a few interesting names. I was big on Ollie Hotton in his draft and saints took him just before Hustwaite. I’ve liked what I’ve seen from Riley Garcia well. Jacob Konstanty has a future but maybe the wrong guy for us. Also wondered about Gollant being behind the crows tall forwards looked ok the few times I saw him as a 3rd forward. There are a few posters who are so desperate for Barrass they are constantly thinking up ways to get it done. They seem mortally scared that Eagles won't budge from 2 F1's and hence all these somersaults.
If Smith was still on target list for Hawks then 2 F1's would not have been enough but now Cats may land him for 16 & swap of 2nds.
I am thankful that none of them are in list management & are out of sync with how the wider footy community values players.
Mostly over and doing my best to ignore the wild takes.
Now are are there any potential targets in the below list. Other than Charlie Clarke who seemed highly rated in his draft yr but was injured, I can't see any. What about Jai Culley from Eagles?

Maybe it’s because you seem to be stamping your feet about paying too much for Barrass, even before you know what the actual deal is.You guys love to play the man. Not great. I’m not having a go at any of you personally. Do you think ad hominem is a good way of conversing on a forum of people that all passionately support the same team? My strong opinion is that we shouldn’t pay more than one first for Barrass and there are other people on here that feel that same way. Stamping your feet and calling us names isn’t going to change that.
Fortunately most of those posters are Essendon supporters bowing at the Dodo altar! Any excuse…Some posters want to win flags, and others would prefer to win trade week.

How am I playing the man mate. Am I wrong in saying that u r risk averse? You guys love to play the man. Not great. I’m not having a go at any of you personally. Cats got 2nd round picks back for the both the 1st round picks. That list you quoted has Jeremy Cameron. If Hawks gave up two first round picks for Barrass, we'd be paying almost the same as what Cats payed to get Jezza out of GWS.
Barrass is not Jeremy Cameron. Jeremy Cameron also didn't have injury concerns when he came to Geelong.
In a complex deal, the Cats sent picks No.13, 15 and 20 and a future fourth-round selection to the Giants in exchange for Cameron, the Giants' future second-round selection and a future second-round selection tied to Essendon from the earlier Jye Caldwell deal.
I'm not playing the man, I'm making a comment that for the 1000th time we're now rehashing trades from 6-7 years ago in posts that will probably be deleted by mods. You guys love to play the man. If I’m risk adverse you are someone willing to take idiotic and unnecessary risks that jeopardises the future of the club on Hail Marys. But of course I wouldn’t say that because I don’t play the man. Just debate the point like someone that has been properly socialised and don’t make personal comments and assumptions about other posters. How am I playing the man mate. Am I wrong in saying that u r risk averse?
What ruck do we get in to replace? Or is Max the back up?Barrass for our first rounder and Reeves is a good deal. I'd much rather we keep our F1.
