The question has to be asked, is a 29yr old full back (no matter how good he is) what this team needs to go to the next level? We have a pretty good 23yr old full back waiting to return from injury as well as having added a very good intercepting tall. In fact I wonder if landing Battle didn’t tip the scales such that we can’t justify paying a premium for Barrass. These things ebb and flow as the landscape changes. It just feels to me that our trade capital should really be prioritised to favour the midfield and forward line, whether that be through the draft or through trading.
Even if what you say is right, it would be a poor look by the club to extricate themselves from this in principle arrangement. Morally we owe it to the lad to make good on our promise.

Ahh you never win - we are either categorised as over paying or not being principled enough in our dealings

We morally owe it to him to offer his club fair market price.

If his club choose to hold him to his contract or ask for significant overs, our hands are tied.

It feels like Weagles are being funny buggers, which they’re entitled to do, but he’s in contract - so if they ask way more than reasonable, Tom will need to return. He understands the risks.

Still. Plenty to play out.

Good question.

Yes, it's exactly what this team needs to go to the next level. And a KPF - but he's likely already on our list.

So, get the FB.

For a late 1st rdr & late 2nd rdr you definitely take it

Hawthorn will pass the F1 and F2 onto West Coast for Barrass, they'll hand these to the Tigers for Baker who have picks up the yin-yang this year and probably need some 2025 picks.

Hawks get Barrass for 14 and 14 only
West Coast effectively swap Barrass for Baker
Tigers have Carlton's F1 (probably low teens) and F2
I think this is the most probable scenario considering how professional both Hawks and West Cost handle these type of things.

Good clubs don’t get good players to request moves to them and then walk away. Poorly run clubs like Essendon do.

I am getting the slight feeling from every single post for the last few weeks that you aren’t interested in Barrass but it will get done or at the very least they will work as hard as humanly possible to make it work

Us giving two future pix for Barras doesn't make sense. Could've just done it with this year's picks. There's definitely something else up our sleeve.
Btw, even up until yesterday, the Perth mouth pieces were saying that the Eagles hold the cards and that they should hold the Hawks over a barrell which included Will Schofield, that tells you how delusional they are. The Eagles need to start splitting picks or they are in a world of hurt for years to come, and Harley won't be there for it! They thought they could squeeze extras from us to get both Baker AND still have another highish pick in the draft. Well, they can mull over it over the weekend. **** em.

If this person was walking around with a green t-shirt and big brown great dane then it wasn't DGB
Waggy?

Also need to find game time for McCabe at some point

finally something interesting.

a quick recap on barass, a gun with a big lingering long term back issue has already said his fair wells to club, team mates and fans, was not awarded the handshake deal to improve his contract and is now being told through media that west coast were trying to milk the last few ounces they could out of you.

Is the writing not on the walls here, this will destroy the player culture and any hopes of negotiating in good faith on Harley’s trade if they treat a club champion the way they are.

We could be intending to work with west coast but I doubt it and it’s more likely we are working on other deals. Barass will get done and west coast will be annoyed, unless we can somehow sell the farm for Harley and Barass 😏

I reckon no one would have roasted hawthorn if they pulled the Gold Coast omeara deal when Cochrane became a Pratt in a very public way

Had a chat with someone who has given good info before but can be hit or miss. Could be completely horseshit which is why I'm posting it here.

West Coast wanted Pick 14 and our future second. We offered 14 and eventually added a future third. We were unwilling to offer our future second because we have "plans to trade our future first" and it is a lot easier to acquire a future third from somewhere to unlock this.

West Coast weren't budging on their demand due to Barrass's contract status. We looked at available opportunities.

The goal now is offering a F1 and F2 to meet their initial demand, while essentially only giving up Pick 14 and maintaining future flexibility.

Fly in the soup is that Richmond wanted 14 for Baker. WCE needs to have discussions with them about whether a F1 and change gets Baker done. "Richmond are being rather unrealistic in their demands so far."

The expectation is that it still gets done.

Yep, a clearly stated List Management need. Getting Battle doesn’t change that.
But equally, we want a ‘fair’ trade for both clubs. Win/Win or Walk away, we do our best to do the right thing by Barrass and the club.
I think it still gets done. As others have said, this might be part of satisfying Tigers and Eagles.

According to afl.com.au hawthorn have ‘blown up the trade period’

How so? Sensationalism
Trade 1 little pick 14 and...

To be fair, if we don't get barrass I'll be disappointed but we still have frosty and got in battle. Our backline is top 5 right now, minimum, with barrass, top 3.

But if we keep the picks for 2025, 2 firsts and 2 seconds. We either hit the draft one more time or go for a big mid or big kpf.

Either way what ever happens is a win/win for hawks. WCE have everything to lose and everything to gain. Keep a disgruntled player and recieve no picks or get a future first and second for barrass and 3rd

I think it would be in our best long term interest to hit the draft again before Tassie enters.
