I can see us paying out Lochie.

I think people are being very optimistic about what two fringe players will get us.

Dow and Fisher are both in demand because they are seen as gettable and affordable, not because they're likely to make a huge impact at another club.

You need to manage your expectations about what we will be getting back

To provide some context here:

Pat Lipinski was traded for Pick 43

Jeremy Finlayson was a Future 3rd

Nathan Krueger was a 14 pick upgrade (55 to 41)

Nick Hind was pick 67 and a 3 pick upgrade

Tom Phillips was Pick 65

This is the sort of trade we will see.

I still don’t understand why we re signed Pitto for 4.

I got lost in the deluge of media articles on us in the two weeks leading up to the preliminary and semi finals.

But somewhere in there was an article which said we were certain at one point that TDK was going to leave. Combine with the talk that other clubs were after Pitto, and voila! A four-year deal.

I also think it is poor business. But it sounds like we might have found ourselves backed into a corner.

Any of them get 4 years with a 5 year trigger contracts?

At a guess:

Out: Dow, Fisher, Plowman, E. Curnow, Honey, O'Brien

In: E. Hollands, Pick 16, 40, 52, + 2 Rookies

Trade 1:

P.Dow and Pick 65 to St Kilda

Pick 51 to Carlton

Trade 2:

Z Fisher & Pick 51 to N. Melbourne

Picks 40 & 52 to Carlton

Trade 3:

Future 2nd to Gold Coast

E. Hollands to Carlton

This values Dow and Fisher much lower than we would expect. Their form late in the season would suggest they would be worth considerably more.

I'd like to see us give Binns, Cowen and Elijah(if traded) plenty of opportunities, Williams walks into the side and Harry puts in some ruck training over the off season.(playing Pitto is akin to playing only 21.5 players)
But the big questions will be who makes way? We need more ball transition speed and run.
Think Binns is the interesting question- I really rate him, just not sure how/where he fits.
IMO -Elijah is a walk up start for Fogs spot & immediately improves us forward.
Williams slots straight in.
There’s a lot of spots up that are going to be highly contested.
Will be interesting to see if there’s coaching changes as well (not saying sack anyone)

The next two years are going to be incredibly difficult for list spots, some favourites will potentially be moved on… The list management team are going to earn their money…

2024 - Has only 5 ooc players that didn’t feature in our side this year…

2025 - Has 3 ooc non current best 22 players…

Not singling you out, but on the subject. Let’s not get stuck on the four year deal. As we all know, contracts mean Jack sh1t. At the time TDK was uncertain, even with TDK signing, Pitto was/is still a staple in the top team.

De Koning has improved in leaps and bounds from a point just prior or at his re-signing. What is still painfully clear is that Tom has still struggled to be effective for much more than 60% of game time. Having a decent quality partner or back up makes singular good sense.

Mirkov has not come on. Time will tell if his heart issues have impacted and he can reach a level that puts him in the AFL mix. Hudson O’Keeffe has impressed most of us, but as a December burthday still 18 year old ruck, he has years of development to come. His combative streak makes us optimistic he may be ready for some minutes next year, but realistically would just be getting warm in 2025.

Unless Mirkov turns things around, we go into 2024 with two genuine AFL rucks with JSOS and Young as pinch hitters or break glass options.

Yes Pitto is contracted until the end of 2027, but assuming TDK builds his tank and can play 70-80% game time next season or the following one, Pitto will get to explore his options. If TDK transcends him as most of us expect, and HOK or Mirk become viable options before the 2026 season, be certain Pitto will jump on the ruck merry-go-round and the contract will not be an issue.

The hysteria around the contract is nonsense.

While he is somewhat fair game, we should actually be lauding Pittonet for his contributions despite carrying significant injury through the season and having next to no decent pre season conditioning behind him. Albeit his output was less than optimal.

I'd be surprised if we get anything usable for Dow. Maybe if it was another club but SOS will be trying to squeeze every bit of value out of the Saints picks so won't chuck us something as a sign of good faith when he knows he can get dow for free. We won't force DOW into the PSD so really have no leverage. Will be similar to the setterfield trade last year.

I'm more positive about Fisher given he is contracted and North have a load of picks so have less need to be so frugal. I think the starting offer will be their pick 39 and hopefully we try and squeeze a bit more out of them, say their future 3rd. Doubt any of their first round picks cone to us unless they split one for a batch of picks so they can pass us a 2nd rounder.

Thanks for your service to the club Plow. Still maintain he was a very good lockdown defender for us regularly doing great jobs on the best small forwards in the comp. Wish him the best in retirement

His record when locking down Toby Greene was unmatched. Smashed him everytime

Gave Charlie Cameron a few absolute baths too.

RIP the king of the whipping boys.

PlowGOAT.

Unreal character to still come across as such a happy, humble and likable bloke when he's genuinely copped it for 10 years straight deserving or not. Hope I can buy the campaigner a beer some time.
