Sam Edmund said today that the interest in Crozier was from before McGovern and Marchbank were staying. Apparently is highly unlikely to happen now
Plowman retiring opens up a list spot again though or do we have to cut spots anyways?

Where are we all on Sam Philp?
Out of contract but I’d be really annoyed if we just cut him loose (unless body is absolutely cooked)
Had blistering speed as a draftee and endurance as a draftee
Surely 1 more year on the list in case he gets his body right

If there are no surprises leaving, and we get Hollands, I think he goes.

I am hoping so, but these are current players OOC at end of this year:
2. Paddy Dow
20. Lachie Plowman
22. Caleb Marchbank
28. David Cuningham
34. Sam Philp
35. Ed Curnow (Rookie)
36. Josh Honey
38. Sam Durdin (MSD Rookie)

Currently Ed and Plow are retired. I suspect Cuners and Marchbank (at least Marchbank) will get extensions. At the moment, after Plow and Ed, it seems Dow and Fisher are going. With being 3 over the list, 2 Irish players coming in, and probable Eli Hollands, list spots will be tight.

We could do with more pace through the middle. I’d be in favour of one more year for Philp.

Speedy, first round draft pick that is basically untapped.

Sheesh, surely honey is going? No brainer right??
Would keep philp over him 8 days a week (sorry honey, sorry honey fans)
At least:
Ed
Plow
Honey
Dow (💔😢)
Fish (💔😢)

Are we able to transfer from the senior list to the rookie list without having to delist the player first?

I would rookie. We just haven’t seen a full season.

I'd be surprised if we get anything usable for Dow. Maybe if it was another club but SOS will be trying to squeeze every bit of value out of the Saints picks so won't chuck us something as a sign of good faith when he knows he can get dow for free. We won't force DOW into the PSD so really have no leverage. Will be similar to the setterfield trade last year.

I'm more positive about Fisher given he is contracted and North have a load of picks so have less need to be so frugal. I think the starting offer will be their pick 39 and hopefully we try and squeeze a bit more out of them, say their future 3rd. Doubt any of their first round picks cone to us unless they split one for a batch of picks so they can pass us a 2nd rounder.

SOS is a tightarse with money but I don't get the perception that he's one at the trade table, he always paid fair value in player trades

Brodie McLaughlin might be worth looking at. Can play that taller forward, back up ruck role. Kicked a lot of goals at VFL this year. 25 and ready to go

I expect TDK to really come on next year and for us to play just ONE proper ruckman

He and Burges ended up with the same goals. How do they compare to each other?

I’ve seen mentioned today that Goldstein will most likely go to the Pies and whilst it looks like a good move for both, i dont know why we aren’t trying to get him to us.

Free agent.

Won’t cost much $$$$

Lots of experience

Very good ruckman

Makes our side better from day 1

Yeah, Honey will go, along with Ed, Plow, Fish, Dow.
That's 5, which would give us a total of 2 spots.
We likely need another 2 spots, maybe even 3.
Honey has been a bit of a disappointment really....he's been given a number of chances at senior level over the past few years, but has never produced that breakout game that leaves you thinking 'wow, I reckon we might have one here'....

And if we were looking for that midfield bull like a Degoey or Petracca, look no further. He has all the physical attributes, but unfortunately it appears not the ability. In one of the preseason practice matches against Port Melbourne earlier this year, he was pinch hitting at centre bounces, and burst out of the square like a man possessed. Maybe we should have given him more midfield minutes in the magoo's during the year, but sadly it looks like he's destined elsewhere.

You're neglecting that we're over-subscribed by 3 players on our list currently - i.e. need to delist/trade/retire 2 players (plus Ed C) before we do anything else. Or to look at it another way:

From your list:

Out: Dow, Fisher, Plowman, E. Curnow, Honey, O'Brien, Plus 3

In: O'Keeffe, Cincotta, Duffy, Monahan (Cat-B), E. Hollands, Pick 16, 40, 52, + 2 Rookies

If you can't find the "plus 3", then need to reduce the number of incoming players.

Would also mean paying out O'Brien, as he is contracted for next year. Possible, but unlikely (I don't think anyone will offer a trade for him).

As for your trade scenarios, 1 and 2 aren't great trades for us - would want both to be better. Scenario 3 is about right. Can't see how Hollands is worth more than either Dow or Fisher.

Did you miss Philip?

I think 8. Work on ball movement / turnover game. Even though contested ball is our "1 wood" as everybody says, in my mind it has so much risk insofar as an injury to Crippa or the like can really reduce our competitive advantage. It feels too personnell dependent, whereas turnover strength feels more system based. When we started losing contested ball against Brisbane we fell apart.
And as was quoted by one the stats gurus this week.

There are twice more turnovers each game than stoppages.

Another very good reason to improve our stoppage game.

Thanks for your service to the club Plow. Still maintain he was a very good lockdown defender for us regularly doing great jobs on the best small forwards in the comp. Wish him the best in retirement

When Danger was at the peak of his powers he was sent forward against Blues to turn the game.

Plow game him a bath. Seriously underrated player.

Carroll would be in the gun I reckon. Not sure of his contract status though.

Papley, Cameron, Greene, Walters etc. Plowman has done the job repeatedly on the most dangerous smalls in our game despite our midfield giving up countless i50s with no delay on the ball.
