Howdy, Can i ask with Marchbank. Where is he at? Feel like his career never got started due to injures & then form issues.

Is it a case he has no role anymore or his performance only warrants VFL selection, when fit? Is his body just not made for AFL speed? Seems like he is on most here deslit shortlist.
Still in our best 22 when fully healthy but can never get a solid run at it. Likely delisted or given a 1 year contract as a rookie. Body just isn't up to it unfortunately.

Thats sad to hear. I remember thinking when he and Weitering reminded me of very early Rance, Astbury/Grimes. Is he injured again atm ? I didn't see him on the injured list nor the team last week. VFL?

VFL finding some continuity after an injury earlier in the year. Yes it's a shame, he was one of our most talented youngsters early on but has had a shocking run of bad luck.

I doubt the club will move on all injury prone or underperforming players

Id move past Cuners, Marchbank, S Durdin, Akuei and Mirkov. Try to manufacture and exit plan for Young (if we can acquire a current player from another club). Carroll and Owies might be a trade options, but happy to retain both

I'd hang on to Martin, 2 year contract, performance based. If he wants a bigger contract and he can find it elsewhere, you part company
Agree with all this.

Prefer to keep Owies though

Potential AA, injury issues are behind him, you guys would be getting a bargain if you gave us a late first rounder for him...

Im all for players pushing for max $$$$$ but I wouldn’t be changing jobs/clubs unless it was for a significantly better deal, if he’s knocking back $700,000 only to accept $750,000, that’s not great.
His “management” have flagged that he is not enamoured by the lifestyle down the coast, so there is more at play than just money, it would seem.

With Williams a reborn forward and Doc a perpetual question mark are we suddenly thin across half back? Perhaps Cumming is the FA we should be going for? Right age, good pace, neat user...likely doesn't cost the earth. Seems a low maintenance Acres type pick up.

Agree with almost all, but why would we want an exit plan for Young? Seems the ideal sort of back up - not perennially injured, serviceable when called upon, not good enough to be creating selection headaches or likely to leave for more opportunity, low maintenance dude. With Durdin and Akuei likely gone I'd argue we need even greater kpd depth.

I don’t think we are thin across half back, but Cumming would be a good get if he came at a budget price. Think he would find his way to best 22 for us, but wouldn’t be automatic. Newman and Saad are at the age where decline could come quickly, but both are still playing excellent footy. Williams and Cincotta redeployed, but Boyd and Cowan look like long term staples, and we have Billy Wilson developing nicely.

I'd part ways with Young, Durdin, Akuei and Marchbank, and target a ready-made KPD and 3rd tall defender

I'd test the water with Richmond to see how all-in they want to go on their rebuild - see if we could prise out Noah Balta a year before his contract expires.

Can do the same with Ballard and Collins at GC but think the Suns would play hardball this year.

Bringing in one genuine AFL-grade KPD means we can swing Kemp into more of a utility role with time spent as the third tall forward, third tall defender and even a little bit of midfield rotation.

But ready made to do what?

Play VFL or upgrade McGovern?

I think we would be a better side with a genuine, tall KPD, allowing Weitering to play more as an interceptor

Boyd KPD Newman
Gov Weitering Saad

Kemp or Cowan ( Both will replace Gov and Newman in time)

The 3rd tall either a developing or senior type, but must be durable

2 talls up front and two talls down back and one tall in the middle - simple equation and a bunch of running mongrels connecting the two- simple equation innit?

Putting 'faith' in bodies that are always breaking is faith knocking on hope's door - no one will answer.

Weitering
TDK
Harry
Charlie

that is a spine that needs class muscle and sinew - see below

Cripps
Walsh
Cerra
Saad

that is your 8 A graders required to win a flag -

Just missing that second tall stopper GWS have it, Collingwood lost it, Sydney dun have it, Brisbane have it, Hawforn have it, make-do can only get you so far even without injury.

small/mid forwards Williams/E Hollands, Owoies Motlop Durdin Fogarty - enough there to make it work

Walsh/Cottrell OHollands Acres - enough there for connection

Carrying Cuningham/Marchbank/Martin ( McGovern) - no need going forward NONE - just delays development and alternatives.

Just find a decent second tall defender Austin - and Young/Durdin fubars will be forgotten.

Agree with that too, though for mine Young still has value for the reasons outlined. Cheap, capable depth.

no to Tomlinson, he has been in the system for a long time and proven nothing.

We went hard for Tomlinson many years ago and it fell through at the last hurdle.

We were going to use pick 12, which we ended up using on Charlie Curnow.

He’s also past 30 and is struggling to get games at Dees.

Definite pass

Factor in we have Cerra, Walsh, JSOS, Doc, Pitto and Saad who have in the last couple missed a fair chunk of games with their various issues and then Martin, Cunners, Marchbank, S.Durdin, McGov who just keep on missing with random mixed things. Top that off that Weiters has also suffered some soft tissue injuries the last 2 years as well and we have Cripps, Kennedy and Hewett who all take significant bashings and have some issues as well but play through mostly, we just can't afford to retain risk the perennially injured anymore (and players such as Akuei and Mirkov that won't make the senior grade).

Martin is kinda worth the risk for an extension as he'll have immediate impact on the handful he plays, but Cunners, Marchbank, Durdin, Akuei and Mirkov all need to be let loose. Unless Cunners and Marchbank happy to extend for a year on minimum wage and go year by year from then on then perhaps consider it.

Can easily see 6-8 changes on our list heading into 25.
