Seems like the talk of a KF being on the hook for 2026 is out there in the industry - or Damo is reading Bigfooty again...

The rival clubs understanding we have someone we're going to trade for next year is a new development. So is the news that Fagan is expected to publicly extend for 2026 soon.

Can we bring in a KF with no trade capital after matching Ashcroft, Marshall, then Annable next year?

Had a look at the FA list for next year and the only decent key forwards are Tex and Allen. There's the Bont if you want a guy who can play anywhere, I guess...

Theoretically Sam Darcy is out of contract but that isn’t happening. Oscar Allen would be my bet.

Oscar Allen as a free agent

i honestly thought that the 'mystery key forward' to the club at end of 2025 was purely dom fay spouting fan nuffy hopium but if barrett is running with it theres probably something there.

reckon we'll make a play for mitch lewis. has gone on boys trips with our players in the past.

Barrett...

These days they don't need to be free agency players, just out of contract players. Sure you have to pony up something, but nothing like you do a contracted player. Bailey Smith with a year or two left on his contract would have been a vastly different trade.

If Dom and Barrett are running with it, it's come from Fish..

Contracted until end of 2026. Not really keen on having to find picks to trade in a contracted player - we could do it, but will make matching academy bids hard.

Much much easier if we can find a free agent but it is slim pickings.

the only one that stands out is allan and id say hes pretty much a 0 percent chance of leaving. captain of the club and from wa.

Trading out players is more likely I reckon

Starce for Allen confirmed.

There’s several factors in play here.

If we do need to orchestrate a trade, remember from next year you can trade 2 years in advance (2026 and 2027 picks).

Not a fan of trading out players (unless they really want to leave). It has taken years under Fagan and Greg Swann to build this culture. Last thing we need to do is to start shopping players around like we did at the time of the Fev trade (Bradshaw and Rischitelli).

Need enough points for Dan Annable. Maybe pick 5-15 range? But his rating could change over the next year. No 20% discount.

If it was Oscar Allen I too would be very surprised given he’s captain. But Leigh Colbert did it. To get a player like that via free agency for nothing would be a massive bonus.

Why’s Starce not signing. Causing me many sleepless nights. He was massive in the GF and finals in general. If he does head home under FA:
  • we get compo pick to use for potential trade of KF.
  • if it was Oscar Allen we get via FA, lose compo for Starce.

A lot still to play out.

Agree that it isn’t ideal. However, we’ve had some good success signing a players in the lead up to FA.
Starce would be very hard to replace, but if Doedee were fit and Brain continues his development trajectory it wouldn’t be catastrophic if it meant bolstering our KF stocks.

It is early november. If he hasn't signed by the bye next year then panic away. But no one credible has said anything about him either way so don't see the need to worry.

Yeah, if anyone OOC is contemplating leaving next year, we should know it early in the year when their name comes up in trade discussions - i.e. Dev Rob this year.

Must agree Starce was huge, but Answerth has emerged as a serious lock down defender in his own right and if there is one part of the ground where our cup runeth over it's down back. Would never contemplate putting him on the table but if he wants to capitalize on this then we can just hope to get top tier compensation.

I remember this type of conversation back in 2022 mid-year when Dunkley was out of contract. We never know.

How could the Dogs afford to lock up 3m+ in cap space for 3 key forwards? I'd be coming to Darcy with a deal he can't refuse. $1.4m over 6 years.

I'd hope for Allen as a 'possible' but we will probably end up with a Finlayson. It's hard to get the highest paid few from one club to move to another. It happens but it's not that common.

Interesting (albeit now irrelevant) little tidbit:
Fremantle have officially nominated promising forward Jaren Carr as a father-son prospect ahead of this month’s draft but are no certainty to take the 20-year-old.

The West Australian understands the Dockers have lodged the paperwork which will allow them to match any bid on the 191cm South Fremantle forward during this year’s national draft which runs from November 20 to 21.

The forward sensationally didn’t nominate for the mid-season draft earlier this year despite significant interest from Brisbane who were understood to be willing to offer Carr an 18-month contract to head to the eventual premiers.
