Dogs should be smart about spreading their $$ than obsess over locking it away between Naughton, Jamarra and Darcy. Not to mention renewing Bont. How could the Dogs afford to lock up 3m+ in cap space for 3 key forwards? I'd be coming to Darcy with a deal he can't refuse. $1.4m over 6 years.
I'd hope for Allen as a 'possible' but we will probably end up with a Finlayson. It's hard to get the highest paid few from one club to move to another. It happens but it's not that common.
Don't think it'll mean much when Swans put forward a Buddy like contract. Dogs can't match that based on their current signings.Andrew Dunkley wasn’t a sitting club director!
I just can’t see Darcy moving, well in the short term atleast. I especially don’t see us being able to out price them. Bont, JUH, English and Naughton would all be around that 1mil/year then a few players like Treloar, Lobb, Dale and Richards (recent form. Warrants a decent contract) would be on reasonable cash, then not much after that (Weightman)How could the Dogs afford to lock up 3m+ in cap space for 3 key forwards? On the flip side of Darcy, TDK is the one I think could be shaken loose. Carlton have a lot of cash tied up in Cripps, Walsh, Weitering, McKay and Curnow. Then add in Saad, Williams, Cerra, McGovern, all brought in on decent contracts. With a perceived lack of depth after those players, matching a rivals big contract offer, would limit them greatly in improving this area.
Reading between the lines, it'll be Mitch Lewis.
What lines?Reading between the lines, it'll be Mitch Lewis.
His wife has retiredIgnoring that his wife plays netball in Brisbane, I just saw Treloar at carina. Treloar to Brisbane confirmed.
Yeah he clearly was promised by Freo that they'd take him as a F/S pick at the national draft if he didn't nominate for the MSD. I don't think it's a big miss for us though, we already have plenty of young third tall forwards, and Carr has arms like twigs, he has a huge amount of filling out to do.
Interesting (albeit now irrelevant) little tidbit:
That’s what I’ve thought for sometime too.Reading between the lines, it'll be Mitch Lewis.
Mitch Lewis comes back for the last 4 games of the season, first ones a blinder, sits on the fence in another then comes to Brisbane
I've seen this work before
he will be contracted beyond next year though right? I personally thought it would be him as the most likely of likely outcomes but then I find it hard to think he would leave the Hawks who are playing exciting football and certainly will be in that premiership window over the next 5-8 years. hard to see how anyone would leave that environment unless it's just down to money.Reading between the lines, it'll be Mitch Lewis.
I honestly don't think he's shown much to be considered the great pick up that Barrett and Fish are talking abouthe will be contracted beyond next year though right? edit: contracted to end of 2026. So we would need to trade for a contracted key forward. can't see how we can have the draft capital to get it done. unless he does another knee...

I’ve heard from a couple of people claiming to have loose connections to him and the club, that it’s Oscar Allen.
I personally would be shocked, but if he hasn’t signed by mid year, I might start to believe it’s a possibility.
Interesting that he hasn’t signed yet, local kid, skipper.. surely it should just be a formality as Harris would be with us?

Oscar Allen would cost an arm and a leg. Clubs don't give up their captains for nothing (serious issues like Carey aside).
Interestingly, Allen and Lewis are very similar for games played/goals kicked (Lewis averages 1.8, Allen 1.5). Given that Lewis would presumably require less outlay, I'd be happy enough if it were to be him.
We like our free agents too. Bump the pay up to the level they get a second top 5 pick and they'll be happy too.Allen is a free agent. Hypothetically, they finish last next year. Pick 2 for Allen would be a pretty bloody good result for them considering he is 26 next year and unlikely to be around for their next tilt at success. Particularly with the expansion of Tassy diluting a few drafts.
I don’t think it’s as unlikely as some might think
Mmm...didn't Yeo go to the Eagles when we were at our lowest ebb during the GH5 era.We like our free agents too. Bump the pay up to the level they get a second top 5 pick and they'll be happy too.
Only problem is they'll struggle to re-sign Harley if they keep letting leaders go. Barass (VC) this year and Allen next year would paint a bleak picture.
But he's a Restricted Free Agent, so they can match if they want to keep him. And their plan seems to be getting (and keeping) good veterans in to ensure Harley Reid doesn't decide to leave, which is the only logic I can attribute to them trading out of pick 3 in order to get Liam Baker. So I think they'd actually prefer to match him than get pick 2 next year. And they probably won't finish last anyway because Richmond will be worse.Allen is a free agent.
