Day will be a wasted senior list spot unfortunately

No one expects that. He's a break glass if needed backup. And most likely a 1 year rental.

I don't expect him to start in the best 22 at the beginning of the season.

If he ends up in our best 22, it's because Ryan's not up to it. Nor is Henry Smith. And Fagan really wants to play 2 genuine tall forwards and Morris.

Quite willing to wait and see who that is that's expecting that. I'm betting it's actually no one.

Day is a cheap and experienced player in a high demand area we had little depth and then suddenly had even less mature depth. He may not even get a game next year depending on game plan and injuries - but the same will likely be true of Gallop and whoever we look at with what would've been our last pick in the 60s or whenever.

Day turns 33 on 6th Sep 2025.
So, he will play most of the year as a 32-year-old. Not young but still a reasonable age for a KPF
Whether he plays in the seniors or VFL is anyones guess. Assuming we pick him up of course.
Lester and Zorko older.
Neale is 32 in May, Fort & McCarthy 31 basically for the season.

I trust our medical and conditioning staff to get him as right as can be done.
2023: 20 games. 17 VFL, 3 AFL
2024: 13 games. 8 VFL 5 AFL. Last game 24/8/2024 being a loss to Frankston in Wildcard round.

We can only take what we can get for free.
Day needs a lifeline, 12 months with a trigger or 2 years should be the deal.
Being in the premiership window i would rather take someone like Day rather than go to the draft or Ireland to complete our list.

But this is Sam Day, the rocket boosters in his legs will have him reaching Mars by tea time.

The AFL will create a special supplementary rookie category X list spot, specifically for interstellar players, spreading the contract value over duration of the space flight. If the player fails to return to earth, only 50% of the residual contract value needs to be carried in the salary cap. Pretty good deal IMHO.

Expect them to use at least one more pick after bringing in Levi Ashcroft and Sam Marshall.

Would be a bit annoying tbh if Joyce was taken by another club as he looked pretty good from the matches he played in this year in the AFL team as a result of injuries to our KPD stocks.

While it would be sad if Craven got taken also, we can replace him with someone else later in the draft like Unwin or Stumpf.

Well he may or may not "take the heat off Hipwood" but he will certainly be a big body to take the heat off Logan Morris, as he grows into his body. As long as he can run decoy leads, crash packs and most importantly bring the ball to ground, to the best small forward group in the league, he will do. All he really needs to do is prevent larger rebounding backs from it taking in the air with a well timed punch. A role player is what we need, as the shop is empty of guns right now.
