Of course, he’s 32 years old and he is available for free, the same applies to Haynes, but unless we are trading for a ready made CHB, then we dont have many other options.

I’ve switched it off, but McDonald was playing well tonight without May and Lever there as support.

The bar is low, whoever we target needs to be better than Young, McDonald is available and he’s a lot better, even if he’s past his best.

I also like the idea of going after him because it frees up our draft capital to target other areas of need.
McDonald this year and target Aleer next.

McGovern Weitering Saad
Newman Aleer Houston
Acres Cripps O.Hollands
Berry McKay Fogarty
Williams Curnow Kemp
Dekoning Walsh Cowan

Cerra Kennedy Docherty E.Hollands

I could live with this if it was somehow possible. I suspect it wouldn't be with our current draft picks, but if it was Id definitely allow it

Personally would prefer to pick up Cumming instead of Houston as a FA and keep the extra draft picks but who knows whats gonna happen
So, do we trade Aleer for a second rounder, then over pay for Cumming in $’s to give GWS end of first round compo? Would have to forego Haynes, but could live with that if have Aleer.

Could argue that one on Aleer’s limited game time. Leaves us with our first rounder and pay for the Campos with chump change.

If we are throwing hypotheticals, reckon that is a good one.

We should make a play for Harrison Jones to slot down back… could become anything as a defender. Has all the athletic tools, he’s a smart player too, still has plenty of upside as well. Bit of a failed forward like Darcy Moore was but there’s an afl footballer there

Keep Martin and get him right

Cunners, Marchy and SD go, so already our injuries down 3

Any trade involving Martin has him playing 20+ games next year at his new club and us receiving a pick who will never play senior football for the Blues

20+ games

The guys body is completely cooked, he can keep another medical room busy. He’s done, try and get a pick that has a couple of points towards Campos but likelihood is DFA. You don’t pay a draft premium for someone like Martin and his soft tissue injuries over a very long period of time

I like your style Coona 👍
This would be a terrific move if we could engineer it and have the AFL help with the tab via that compo.
The opportunity to come across with and play alongside Aleer in a side in its window and offering a generous contract might well appeal to Cumming and the Giants who would receive that nice compo.
Sounds like the crows are keen on Cumming but likely we are contenders sooner than them so if we can juggle the numbers his disposal of half back would be great leaving our first rounder for an explosive, goal kicking midfielder then the Campo twins later using possible returns from the traded Owies/Martin.

Cowan Aleer Cumming

So many highlights from 1 game. He is going to be something special!

My only suggestion, get a kicking coach!
He was 15 when he played in this vid, by the time he hits the big league the only thing he'll need to worry about is finding a good cabinet maker to fit all his trophies and medals in

The debate comes down to coaching

We’ve got elite players but we need to play a more modern game (less predictable) and assign tasks to each player.

We need to get creative.

Not trade our elite players.

Get a functioning forward-line system and the delivery in there sorted.

Create space, crumbers, lead, and don’t continually bomb it in or sh!tful disposal inside 50 (Kennedy & Walsh were up the top for the worst performers in this category).

Forget about Petracca and Houston they cost too much, we need to do the following
- Get Aleer, Rachele and Haynes.
- Delist all of Martin, Marchbank, Cuningham and S Durdin.
- Trade Owies if we get Rachele otherwise keep him.
- Trade Pitto if we get an offer that is overs.
- Draft O’Farrell and Campo boys in the draft.
- Send Cerra off to see a specialist to get his hamstring fixed.
- New S&C team get a full preseason into Walsh.
- Play Kemp forward.
- Get SOS and Doc back in the team.
= Premiership.

Personally, i'd keep Martin....if our homework says his war wounds are fixable.... reckon AR might have pushed a few too hard/far....just my supposition though.

Would love to know Martin's take on his injuries...

Does Akuei deserve retention? Ditto Markov?

Would readily trade Pitto, but keep Owies - he's durable and does a job.

C. Durdin and Mots - who knows....

Reckon Cerra can be every bit the 'star' that Petracca is, even if not as explosive...

Martin hasn’t managed 20 games since 2017, not happening.

Wasn't Rachelle a bushy? The Hollands should know him well enough. If we can manage to keep this year's first and bring in Aleer and Rachelle you'd take that in a heartbeat

Crows wouldn’t release Rachele for anything but a top 10 pick as a bare minimum and rightfully so. He was a former pick 6 and he’s tracking just as well as Rankine at the same age if not slightly better. He’s also contracted for like another 4 or 5 years. He may want out (yet to be proven) but Crows hold the whip hand in any negotiations. Can’t see that one coming to fruition for us even if it would be a nice pickup.

Aleer on the other hand could easily be convinced for the opportunity of senior game time in a contending team, probably a pay rise and extra years tacked on to that contract too. He’d be an amazing acquisition. We need an athletic tall who’s also decent 1-on-1. Can’t have a Weitering clone who’s slow. Aleer is athletic, strong in the air, and decent body strength.

Where a young player is completely disaffected (and don't know if this is the case here), deals get done....

Aleer is still contracted and would have about 10 suitors. He isn’t going cheap
